  • If you don't lift the cone slowly, how else are you going to pass a crappy slump from one of your buddy concrete truck drivers!? (jk)

  • This is a pretty good slump test. I noticed a few things though

    - when placing concrete in the slump cone, it is best to twist the handle of the scoop as it is falling in.

    - The bottom of the cone should be cleaned off, front and back, before lifting the cone

    - He said verbally, he would rather a see a slow pull. If you pull the cone up too slow you will not have accurate test results. It will give a lower slump than what the concrete actually is.

  • only gay people do a slump test. Experienced concretors can tell just be the consistency.

  • Mistake Number 1: He used a sheet of plywood. The baseplate must be of a non absorbent material.

    Mistake Number 2: He was not setting his layers in equal volumes. Not even remotely close to equal.

    Mistake Number 3: You do not need to retest if your cone tilts. 85% of the time it will be completely displaced as most pours aren't anywhere near that dry. I used BB's to mark the displaced center as an entry level technician when I started.

    Poor example of a slump.

  • I am a CSA certified, I do 3,4 concrete tests a day, it is ok if your road touch the board, well done

  • @sarmad0201 Yep... I counted and it was more than 25 rods. First time I counted 28 and second time I counted 27 either way its more than 25 rods.

  • Also, ,you can hit the board at the bottom, you just don't want to strike it forcibly. And you should be careful to make sure you rod 25 times, no more no less. When you pull the cone you should pull with no torsional movement, straight up, and it should be done in 5 plus or minus 2 seconds (or 3 to seven seconds)

  • What standard says you pull up the cone for 5 seconds +/- 2? The Australian standard is 3 seconds +/- 1

  • @1974JCook CSA is 5 second, 7 is too much and in CSA you measure the average, exactly what he did

  • When you measure the slump you are supposed to measure to the original displaced center per ACI and ASTM, not an average across the top

  • Oh yeah, this is the CSA standard, so if you're following some sort of other standards organization, your results may vary....

  • I guess tecnicaly you don't rod through the entire first layer as you will hit the base plate, but you go down as much as you can without hitting it.

  • You have to use a little more on the bottom because it is wider,. As you come up to top of the cone, less scoops will be needed. It does not have to be perfect, unless you are being tested for your ACI.

  • You said 3 equal sections in terms of volume, yet you used 4 scoops in the first, and 3 scoops in the other two.. =)
