Another reason why MGS2 is probably the best MGS, the details are just amazing. Too bad MGS4 sort of ruined Raiden :-/ I still love that game but they could have done sooo much more with Snakes 'apprentice'. No, no I like your theory. I guess Raiden learned to use a sword during his time as a child soldier, I mean Solidus seems to be pretty good with the swords too and he was his teacher in some way.

I like the idea of Raiden resembling his past with his Cyborg appearance, Olga, the H.F. Blade, fighting for Sunny etc.

Well, maybe there is more reason. But I guess that he became a Cyborg Ninja because it's easier this way to infiltrate Area 51, rescue Sunny and assist Snake during MGS4.
