see it's too bad they left the second deleted scene out because in the ending speech, chris mentions Rahh's "possession of soul" and it wasn't mentioned in the final release, so it was hard to understand

I think the Elias look alike is shown in the real movie at the end as one of the two guys waving as charlie sheen is lifting off in the helicopter.

I don't think the guy was supposed to look like Elias, I thought he was supposed to be the personification of death i.e. The Grim Reaper etc.

@oeyesea I think it's a parallel with Jesus. Remember how O'Neal describes him as Jesus Christ early in the movie. And then the story of Jesus on the road to Gethsemane, how the apostles didn't recognize him under the veil until after.

I doubt that it was ever considered that Barnes should live. It completely destroys the whole plot and moral to this movie, which is that the Americans were not so much as fighting the Vietcong as fighting themselves.
