I learned to ride a bike when I was 4 years old and it was on an adult womens bike without the bar and I couldn't reach the seat so I stood up over the peddles but my 2 kids can't seem to get it and one is 8 (girl) and one is11 (boy) and maybe this technique will help them learn because they have new bikes that are just sitting in the garage for a year and a half now gathering dust. It's better than sitting in front of the tube playing video games all day and better exercise and so much fun!
I'm 14 and Im like the only one I know that doesnt know how to ride a bike and i tried but i get real scared that imma fall and hurt myself. I'm a girly girl so that doesnt help lol
I'm 50 and need to learn to ride a bike to improve my physical activities. I bought my bike and couldn't ride. I searched and found this tutorial video. I will follow and am sure I will master the tricks soon.
i learned by myself in 4th grade, using the sloped driveway as a push and I learned in just 2 days.. I got a few bumps and scratches but at least I know how to ride a bike :)
Thank you soooooooo much. My daughter who is 8, learnt to ride her bicycle (which she has been trying to ride for soooooo many years,) in 30minutes. My hubby & I wish we saw your video earlier. Keep up the good work.
It took 4 days for my teenage kid to learn and she'd never ridden a bike before. Great idea to learn the balancing part without the pedals first. Thanks for posting!
hahaha wow, im from the bronx, when i was learning my father had is friends drive up and down the street, he put me on and pushed the bike into the street, and said ride or die choose one... i can ride a bike now..., but im using wifi from heaven to tell you this lmao j/k
When I first learnt how to rid a bike, I was so excited about pedaling on my own I looked up and went straight into a tree. Didnt master steering straight away haha.
My 4 year old daughter and I just watched this video tonight. Went outside, practiced the technique and literally in 30 minutes she rode the entire block by herself! Thank you! She is so proud!
Oh my goodness thank you so much for sharing this video! After many many attempts my 6 yr old nanny charge was so lacking in confidence on his bike and after 1 afternoon using this method he has got it and is so very proud! Once again thank you from a very happy nanny!
This is great, I'm trying it! My 11 year old had a bad scare learning to ride as a little kid and wouldn't go near it again. Especially with dad minimizing his fear it became a power struggle, and a stand off to this day! We can learn it when dad goes out of town and surprise him with it when he gets back! Wish me luck :)
Taking off the pedals and lowering the seat? That's too much work. I taught my 6 year old son in 3 days using the traditional way...holding the back of the seat and running along side him. He didn't fall once.
I was trying to teach my sister to ride a bike and I told her to do this technique before I even watched this video. Only thing I was missing was taking off the pedals and lowering the seat. I actually raised it thinking it would help.
OMG! I am going to try this! So funny that I considered taking the pedals off of my son's bike today, but figured that it was just ridiculous. I'm glad that I found this video to convince me that this may be the key to teaching him how to balance the bike! Thanks!
This worked like a charm for my 7 year old son who had a bad experience last summer learning to ride a bike when he tipped over into a brand new cadillac and dented it. Since then he lost all confidence in himself when trying to ride his bike. We tried this method with him this morning and after a half hour of doing it he asked us to put his pedals back on and he was off and riding and smiling.
Got my daughter a bike for her 5th birthday, she's now 8 and for one reason or another she never learned how to go it without training wheels. Watched this video, and 2 days later she can now go her bike! Found it works better on a gentle slope, where they can glide down.
I learned in a day! my friends helped me when i was seven. The first tym i got my training wheels off was after i fell from them!! I wanted to get rid of my fear!
Thank you so much..I've been hitting dead ends trying to teach my granddaughter over the last 2 years how to ride. With a heart problem I could not run along side of her. This is a great thing
@Mr0regon My daughter is eleven and can't ride without training wheels yet either. The reason is because we both work, and have two toddlers to take care of as well that we just don't have the time, and the other kids are not good at being outside without running off. I think maybe this person is in a similar situation. If only there were training classes here that would help. I also don't live in a house, and apartment areas can be hard to train in.
not to sound badass or anything but i learned when i was 5 on an adult bike with no brakes... i had to stop it by putting my foot on the back tire and skidding. Too much fun :)
My daughter is 5. This technique works. She learned to ride a bike in literally one hour. This was the first we have tried to teach her, I saw the video and thought I would give it a shot. Thanks!
Just fyi you don't have to take the pedals off. Use a slightly too small bike, and have them just push to balance arround the pedals. Then teach them to pedal after they learn to balance. My son learned in two days this way and he has autism and is motor skills challenged.
Nice video... First night of trying to ride the bike without training wheels ended in crying and frustration. The second night started with 15 minutes without the pedals and then my 6 year old was asking for me to put them back on. 5 minutes later she was pedaling down the street on her own. Thumbs up!

that bike is too big?man, her feet can be flat on the ground, that aint right.i always have to put one leg over my whole bike, get one foot on the pedal and jump to my seat pedaling, i ride tall bikes too, but thats too big for her?! stupid parents!
I taught myself to ride a bike and I was 19 or 20, can't remember. I never had a bike if my own because my old bike was left at my aunts house. Anyway, I was teaching myself to ride my nieces bike which was way to small for me, then I beged my momto let me get a bike. Well one day I decided I would try and ride on the grass and that didn't work, so I went out on the pavement and i coukd do it.
Thanks so much for posting this video, and thanks to all the people who replied for giving their feedback on how well the method has worked for their kids in real life. I am so gonna try this with my 6 year old and 3 year old who does not want to pedal but still would love to be able to move forward while on the bike. Thanks so much
I taught my self at age four on a bike that was meant for a 12 year old . My feet couldn't even reach the ground and i was able to to ride on my first attempt .
My daughter was very apprehensive to ride her pedal bike. We followed this method and INSTANTLY she was balancing on her bike while coasting down our driveway. I put the pedals back on and she was gone. I was stunned how well this worked.
my brother cant learn i dont know if his bike is too big or small or he has nohand eye coordination he's 8 years old and 4'2 what size bike does he need ?
WE are going to try this today. I have a 6 year old daughter who wants to learn how to ride her bike. She is so afraid of falling though. This is a great way to keep her from falling and having her be in charge of the bicycle. We will let you know later how this goes!!!!
AMAZING TRICK of taking off the pedals! Worked for our 8 and 6 year old boys within minutes!!! (after many other methods failed).
One important point - when we took off the pedals, we hadn't realized that there is a left and right pedal and we accidentally put them back on the wrong way and almost ruined the bike...thankfully we figured it out and our kids LOVE bike riding! Thank you!!!! (Can you teach them how to do homework now?)
THANK YOU RICH CONROY!!! I have 2 daughters & they learned on their own w/ scraped knees & elbows.
I used your coasting & balance technique and my son learned in 5 minutes. He loves his bike, through away his scooter. Thank you for this highly, usable video instruction,
What a great idea! I've seen balance bikes, but I like this better. Why buy a special bike why you can make adjustments to a regular one? Can't wait to show my nephew!
In my day, my old father just took my out to the woods one day, put me on my bike simply said "boy, you ride, or you die." before setting loose his hunting dogs on me.
Which was really nothing compared to how he taught me to swim.
Could you peddel with your heals almost touching your bum and your knees coming way up? It's like teaching them to drive with their chest against the steering wheel. The kids look like monkeys on bikes... The seat is just too low. They should just be able to touch tip toes on the ground. It's safer.if you fall to the side, you want to be able to get your leg out fast... you can't when it's all buckled up. their knee is likely to hit the ground first... raise the seats guys
same by uncle would take me up this concrete hill and I'd be really scared and he'd push me, It works better than anything but it hurts like hell as you fall over a lot on concrete
Sorry, i shouldn't laugh at this video. What on earth is happenin here?. What's wrong wi the old way of holding the back of the saddle, letting the wee one think ur still holding on to it, and of they go!!!! It was so much fun that way lol.
I remember back when i was young I started off with stablisers and then got new bike and went 2 wheeled. This new technique seems interesting but I guess its down to the child as no child is the same when it comes to learning.
I was about 8 when I learnt because my mother couldn't afford one before. My brother is 6 and he learned in about a day. I took 1 and-a-half days, but it's good enough. It's ver hard to learn but now I know how to so much I can't ride my brothers bike with stableizers - I haven't done it in ages!!
first time i tryed was when i was 5 on just a 2 wheeled bike. I did so awsme. All i could do was fall to my sides. lol Then i managed to go strait.
Then slowly started to spin.
Then started riding round trees. Then managed to ride good enough. Then i became a mountain biker then i became a pro if i may say so... Anyways this vids cool. Well done.
I learnt in less than an hour when i were 6. My cousin took 1 stabaliser off at a time and i couldnt ride it until i got on a hill then it was so easy to balance... from then i could always ride a bike. Try sitting on a bike on a ramp with ure legs up and if you can balance you know how to ride a bike!
man i remember d first time i tried to ride a bike i just didnt get it but then my bastards of cousins pushed me off a hill n b4 i knew it i could balance d bike (tho i didnt kno how to turn) so i crashed into the shop at the bottom lols so from then on i could ride a bike
I learnt when I was 7 took me two days by my dad holding on to the back of the seat then letting it go but I didnt know he let go and I was riding it felt awesome i was on the beach aswell =). Funny thing is though my mate laughs at me because he learnt when he was three but when I was 7 but when i go out with him to hang around he rides and wobbles all over the place still cant balance and falls off all the time he runds funny too lol XD
thats really good idea lol i didnt learn to ride a bike til i was liek 12 lol kept fallin off all the time and puttin it. takin the pedals off i never thought of that :d birlliant idea:D go you !!!!
that's a great method. i tried it with my kid, just took off the pedals and let him push himself along until he could balance. stabilisers are no use because kids lean to one side and let the stabilisers do the work, so they don't get the trick of balancing the bike. nice work.
Haha, same here. I was about 5 and my dad said he would hold on to the back. Then I look behind me and he was a good 100 metres further back. (I panicked and fell, but at least I knew I could ride a bike).
I used this technique on my 3 year old son back in 2002 he took about 15 mins
to work it out i did take off the crank set and rear sprocket and chain i called it a coaster i gave it to a friend for his boy to learn he done it in less than half an hour.
I was willing to try ANYTHING to get our 7-year-old to finally learn. Watched this video and decided to give it a shot. Within an hour she was riding on her own. Amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This is a terrible way to learn how to ride.

But if it teaches them to ride a bike in 15 minutes which would normally take weeks or even months. Isn't it worth it?
J4K31 2 years ago
it's very simple i learned ridding when i was like that kid at 2:55 NOW I RIDE DOWNHILL all you need is speed for better balance

PivotPro111 2 years ago
first time i tryed was when i was 5 on just a 2 wheeled bike. I did so awsme. All i could do was fall to my sides. lol Then i managed to go strait.
Then slowly started to spin.
Then started riding round trees. Then managed to ride good enough. Then i became a mountain biker then i became a pro if i may say so... Anyways this vids cool. Well done.

first time i tried to ride off stabilisers, i crashed into a dustbin and hurt my knee alot! lol
1ManArmy786 2 years ago
I learnt in less than an hour when i were 6. My cousin took 1 stabaliser off at a time and i couldnt ride it until i got on a hill then it was so easy to balance... from then i could always ride a bike. Try sitting on a bike on a ramp with ure legs up and if you can balance you know how to ride a bike!
bounty96 2 years ago
man i remember d first time i tried to ride a bike i just didnt get it but then my bastards of cousins pushed me off a hill n b4 i knew it i could balance d bike (tho i didnt kno how to turn) so i crashed into the shop at the bottom lols so from then on i could ride a bike

CookieMonzta1995 2 years ago
thats really good idea lol i didnt learn to ride a bike til i was liek 12 lol kept fallin off all the time and puttin it. takin the pedals off i never thought of that :d birlliant idea:D go you !!!!
blackwidow1983 2 years ago
I learnt on a Yamaha, 900-cc. No stabilisers.
shootingpegstar 2 years ago 2
aha yerr man
MertonSmurf 2 years ago
that's a great method. i tried it with my kid, just took off the pedals and let him push himself along until he could balance. stabilisers are no use because kids lean to one side and let the stabilisers do the work, so they don't get the trick of balancing the bike. nice work.

I learnt when I was 5. My parents just let me get along with the bike alone for whole evening.
dandelion198689 2 years ago
I learnt when I was about 6 or 7. My dad just pushed me, said he wouldn't let go, he did, I didn't notice and I carried on riding (:
GoryStory 2 years ago
Haha, same here. I was about 5 and my dad said he would hold on to the back. Then I look behind me and he was a good 100 metres further back. (I panicked and fell, but at least I knew I could ride a bike).

Classic teaching =D
luketrials 2 years ago
I was so angry at him, I started crying because he let go.
But the technique worked, all that matters.
brutusfilip 2 years ago
I used this technique on my 3 year old son back in 2002 he took about 15 mins
to work it out i did take off the crank set and rear sprocket and chain i called it a coaster i gave it to a friend for his boy to learn he done it in less than half an hour.
