  • wow we need a cox like that!!!!!

  • to much counting

  • THIS IS AMAZING!!! IM A NOVIE COXSWAIN (started last week) and your MY INSPIRATION!

  • Chills. Novice cox doing some research. My first race is this weekend in a Varsity 4 and I can only hope to be this good.

  • the best crew is nothing without a great coxswain, also the best coxswain is nothing without a great crew

  • I got kind of emotional listening to that.. this is amazing. Novice Cox here doing my homework... so excited to be a part of rowing.

  • These rowers are all really tall! What was the 2k avg. for this boat?

  • is it just me or do americans like rythem and counting when the britsh go all out mental

  • does anyone else find his voice kind of annoying? he's incredibly skilled though!

  • by the way, hint, don't count the pieces, thats the easiest way to know what the other crew is doing and defend, ;)

  • we use stroke side and bow side, not port or stairbought... random???

  • @macgt53 port and starboard are the politically correct names of the areas of the boat. You don't hear sailors say 'can you just turn to stroke side a bit' cause there is no stroke.

  • i wish my coxswain was like this guy, great coxing

  • some great coxing there without a doubt.

  • i'm a new coxswain, just started this year for college and we're going to have our first race in a couple of weeks and i feel like i have so much to learn. this video showed me a lot of what i should sound like but does anyone else have any more examples that i should listen to to hear what a race should sound like?

  • @rmosercca

Let your guys know where the other boat is, what their rating is, keep the fucking boat straight. I dunno how it is a college level but I swore a hell of a lot more than this guy. Nothing better than some swearing. make sure they know when to lift for the sprint. take a 10 partway for the guy in front and the guy behind. have a few short motivational things to say like "fuck depression pain isnt real" look up courage wolf for ideas.

  • @o8strider8o swearing is frowned upon because it doesn't make great listening for the people watching. It can sometimes be useful for the rowers to make a very strong point, but if you swear too much it loses the impact. Anyway it's a tradition to be a gentleman in this sport, at least while your in the boat.

Am all for the witty, sharp comments, a little bit of humour distracts from the pain. "On my word boys, unleash hell," or "this power ten for Jimmy's mom."

  • The USA national rowing team is a joke. Shrewsbury would have hammer them.

  • Simply Awesome! :D

  • Eyesthatwatch69... He is an excellent cox... I think you underestimate what it takes for HRR

  • THE COX IS RUBBISH HE COUNTS WAY TO MUCH. ESPECIALLY FOR A 1 ON 1 RACE.

  • @eyesthatwatch69 Yea your right, he's terrible. So i guess you need to be terrible to win Henley. You retard

  • @bjbjbzz @IFonly67 i havnt one henley yet but i have one races because our cox has been able to listen to the other coxs counts and push us on accordingly. also is it not possable that the st ignatius crew is really good and its not really the cox??

  • @eyesthatwatch69 judging by your use of the word 'rubbish' .. i'm going to guess that you're a butt hurt fanboy of shrews.. or you lost to him.

  • @joyofpepsi nah i hate shrewsbury. although i would always back the british crew at HRR

  • this was, INSANE

  • excuse me...i row for king's school chester!! J14's though but we beat shrewsbury as well...at their own regatta on saturday ; )

When we beat them it wasn't "good race gents" it was more like "grunt...grunt"!! XD

  • Great power and great job keeping the crew in the know but WAAAAAAYYYYY too much counting... good god I'd go insane hearing him count to ten 20 times in the race.

  • damn, i got goosebumps and worked up while listening to this. fine work, st. ignatius, fine work indeed.

  • coxie = <3

  • my sister is a coxswain and i'm a rower. that is one good race! the whole time i was listening i could just picture the race. you did a great job getting them to walk up on the other boats! NOT ONE MORE INCH!!! love that line

  • END IT!

  • hey, good vid! I'm in j16's and am already coxing our top eight, i'm getting all the help i can get from recordings and stuff. I'm from England, and HATE shrewsbury, so well done on beating them, but i do also go to king's chester :P haha, i remember them coming 2nd. Again, great vid, has helped, and i might see some Ignatius boys this summer at Henley :)

  • are you going to close the gap against eton this year?

6 of their first VIII are back so....good luck....

saw them sunday and they are monstrous....again, good luck

  • Haha no chance mate. Eton are insane - although there cox from last year was anything but!

It will be interesting to see what the other schools can do this year in response. BMS are matching exactly Eton's training hours in the hope they can be quicker. I think Hampton are doing the same.

  • holtbr: you at eton?

  • @harryb94 Nope but i was for a year. Got ripped into for being poor so i left. I knew most of them though because im in L6th now so Casper and Constantine were year above. I go to Bedford now - we're having a shocker of a decade! Not even in Champ 8s at the moment... disgraceful!

  • @holtbr But BMS didn't do great for their size at Schools Head, and Hampton were even worse. Eton won't gain much more speed, Abingdon and Shrewsbury neither, so wait for those crews close by to improve.

  • @edbowassrdon agreed but BMS had 2 guys not 100% as well which slowed them down loads (one of them was in coup last year). Lost interest in Hampton they're well off the pace. Will be interesting to see in the summer what happens. BMS are quicker than people think - i think they are the most likely to catch Eton this year.

  • @holtbr I'd still have to go with abingdon, then BMS to catch eton... ...or rather come second!

  • Awesome coxing man. You kept on them the whole time making sure they got maximum performance and speed really good job.

  • To be fair Shrewsbury school (pupils, parents and coaches) would have been rooting for themselves but almost everyone else would be completely neutral. Good race though.

  • lol same here

  • this gets me soo fired up, great coxing

  • yes definitely... Im a coxswain for the freshman team at SI now and I've definitely used this video for things to say to fire the guys up

  • its great how he tells where the guys are in the race, i didnt even need to see a video of it.

but yea, i row in philly, i use this before every regatta

  • this victory will be repeated. right sean?
