  • nice

  • awesome performance! i've heard E.C. do it faster than this, but that doesn't in any way steal the soul from the song, this was just as epic!

  • Great what he is playing as he always does. Great performer and I look up for more of Eric Clapton on YouTube. Thanks people.

  • thumbs up if eric looks like chuck norris

  • What a powerful strat

  • Robert Johnson actually wrote it while he was in Fort Worth Texas, near a "redlight district" on the east side---known by locals as Stop Six area. There is an intersection of E Rosedale and Riverside Drive that had a sleazy motel on the corner that "guests could rent by the hour". The intersection is still there but the motel was torn down decades ago. That intersection was known as the "crossroads"

  • apparently clapton didnt like the negative publicity, people writing clapton is god on the sides of buildings for example.

  • damn eric clapton got a sweet guitar solo my god

  • @muskypucker it's not just 'aging fans' who admire the incredible work Clapton has contributed to music, I'm 16 and know more than just a few people my age who support and agree with clapton's status as a guitar god. Not only does this contribute to the abundance of arguments displaying Clapton has enough support to effectively start a deity-based religion, but also shows that Clapton isn't just great for the precision and musicality in his playing, he is also great in that his music has stood

  • @muskypucker well if you are so great, put something on here and lets judge you......its only fair

  • @muskypucker if you're so great and better than Eric Clapton, where might I find some of your material?

  • Phil collins is such a bore lol

  • This is my wife's account so don't blame her for my comments. I can't believe you guys that think you can play better than Eric Clapton or that he isn't that good. Just because you can play fast doesn't make you a good guitar player. Eric Clapton is a pioneer and has made enormous contributions to music. He is a prodigous composer and player. Eric can shred but he is also humble and prefers to navigate the fretboard with purpose rather than vanity.

  • @basickatie True. Speed can't make up for soul and passion... Just ask a woman about how she want the sex... Eric Clapton have sex with his guitar, and that is why he is god :)

  • @basickatie hehe, for the Love of Eric Clapton... never, ever, ever feel like you have to dignify yourself to anyone concerning E.C. Especially the trolls on here that will, the day after he dies, be rushing out to buy his C.D. and tell everyone how good he was and how long they have been fans :)

    E.C. for God :)

  • @muskypucker Better yet. I am curious about who you feel are better guitar players than Slowhand. I actually think that there may be some as well, but I would be interested to see where you are coming from. Please put up a list of well-known players that you admire.

  • @muskypucker That is now TWICE that you have boldly stated that either you or people you know are better. My challenge still stands. Put up or shut up. Nothing to lose but your opinion. Post some examples and let the public bask in your glow. Otherwise, your postings are mush.

  • @muskypucker Fairly boring little screed. Love reading the rants of someone like you, who provide no context to your comments, yet find the time to slam someone who obviously had made a fairly substantial career proving your statements to be BS. Post the work of these people who you claim are better and let the viewers decide. Otherwise, stop being the stereotypical "angry Gen X'er" and come out for some sunlight. Or check out some Chet Atkins or Les Paul for some balance.

  • Phil Collins sux.;.(............,,

  • @pearlforme nope, you suck

  • I mostly listen to metal music, but I love this..

  • Cream version is steamin'......but this downright dirty and FUNKY....and you get just over 7 minutes of it!

  • Always great to see Phil Collins doing what he was ment to do... play so damned nasty fat drums :)

  • I don't believe Mr. Clapton knows how to stay below the 12th fret. (Or above, depending on how you look at it)

  • Hey just wondering, this song is in A right?

    and the solos?

  • @HammaoftheGods yes, in A

  • @HammaoftheGods This entire song stays in the key of A. The solos use A minor pentatonic with some passing tones added in by Mr. Clapton. Those added notes give it somewhat of a chromatic feel especially during turnarounds like blues always seems to do.

  • too slow. Where is the version that you hear on the radio? alot faster.

  • @Sodiumreactor thats what makes this version so great. really groovy stuff

  • Anyone else feel like Clapton hasn't played this song well since the original Cream versions?

  • @yossarian20081 its robert johnsons song not creams

  • @nytohk Right. I'm only talking about the versions Clapton has been a part of though.

  • @yossarian20081 This version is actually my favorite. I personally like it better than the Cream days version.

  • Greatest guitar ever - got one of this great ones

  • "Alright guys....Back to the hotel!" LOL Always great to see Phil Collins performing along with his good buddy Eric Clapton. These 2 legends along with Greg & Nathan, made up the tightest 4 piece band i've ever heard. If you like this concert, make sure to checkout Eric's 1986 album "August". These guys all played on it & it sounds amazing.

  • @vodude i got that album on LP

  • @vodude I Agree with you there August is a fantastic album!

  • I live in Rosedale, MS!!!!!

  • we dont go too and eric too

  • They People that dont like this music is they worse people in the planet...and never will go to crossroads

  • Gonna leave that whole randomspewbros episode way behind and say this. Clapton kick started what we know as blues today and thank God for him. The only thing wrong with this rendition is buckets of 80's chorus, but I can cope with that. Interesting side note, the lyrics share a verse with another Robert Johnson song, "travelling riverside blues". "Going down to Clarksdale, gonna take my rider by my side". How cool.

  • Outstanding, forget the semantics,Eric feels everything, sings superbly, so different from ,his other original.

    I love both breaks

  • this song was never recorded in studio am i right?

  • thank you Eric , you always make me break a smile , you immortalized Crossroads for all time thank you

  • blues baby, blues:D

  • @RandomSpewBros

    ...I will kill you...

  • If your looking for technicality....try Andres Segovia

  • Can anyone tell me the year?

  • @huff4337es 1986.

  • however, this one of the best ever i heard..i can feel it.

  • inspire someone make me feel more confident to this such music..

  • Nathan East.

  • How can anyone dislike this...

Eric, Greg, Phil and Nathan together... Wow

  • Clapton Is God!

  • i love this song ! i've got a good cover of it on my channel if some of you youtube experts could check it out ??

  • @carrickabc pls stop spamming every clapton video...

  • what effect does he use on his guitar?

  • @MrMusicM67 Mostly his soul and a bit of distorsion

  • Sounds like he's playing Death Letter, by Son House, at first...

  • Зис лорд Эрик Клэптон. Спасиба!!!

  • @TheDrogobych I agree with you

  • i prefer cream´s version of this music. However, with erc clapton everything is ok uhauha

  • Hahaha nice! Phil, Eric and two great musicians... nothing bad!

  • year?

  • is just wanna know. is he high here? u know on heroin or something?

  • @johntygesen Probably, apparently he was high for the vast majority of the 80s lol.

  • @johntygesen

probably yeah, why asking? They were high for their damn entire life.

  • @johntygesen This is a few years after he straightened up his alcohol addiction, and about 15 years since he straightened up his drug addiction

  • agree with johnnyg99x.....................you don't have to be a good shredder to be a great guitrar player....eric clapton is amazing..no wonder they say hes GOD

  • phil collins is great!

  • Süper Performans. Bu aldığım ilk konser videosudur.

  • Trust me eric clapton play pretty damn fast to!

  • Phil's Got Beat !!!

  • Everyone commenting that Cream originally wrote this song is extremely stupid. It was written by Robert Johnson in the thirties.

Robert Johnson was one of Clapton's main inspirations and drove him in the musical direction that he went.

  • @LRifenberg it's him that the legend is about, that one day he sold his soul to the devil to be able to play the guitar

  • Not stupid - just uninformed. Remember: not everyone can be as smart as you are. @LRifenberg

  • @LRifenberg So many people build confidence in self by exhibiting knowledge in some area and telling others they are stupid because THEY didn't know. This 'I am better than you' approach in life really should trigger an alert in all of us to show humility and we will gain more acceptance and appreciation of our knowledge from other people. Learning something from someone else does not mean you were previously 'stupid'.......Otherwise we would ALL be stupid.

  • this sing makes my husband horny

  • So tender they were~~~~~~~~~~

  • Such a tone!!

  • This version is really underrated. Some comments:

    * A lot of the sound comes from the boost on the Clapton model Strat. I won't call it "tone", because I don't like it. :)

    * You don't really need tab -- just use your ears and watch the video a couple hundred times. :) And learn to sing the guitar solos, probably down an octave (unless you're a chick). If you can sing it from memory, you'll eventually figure out how to play it.

  • [continued]

    * Get the rhythm right. A lot of people screw up the rhythm on the original Cream version -- this version is actually closer to the Cream version than you think.

    * Check out the notes he's resolving to -- spot on. There's not a wasted chorus here. This video shows he didn't suck in the 80's quite as much as we all thought! :)

  • * OF COURSE the original Cream version is "better" ! It's the reason the song is famous. But that's not the point, is it? This version is better than most of the *other* non-original versions. Don't like this version? Post yours. :)

  • @davidespinosa2

i hope you know that eric clapton was in cream

  • @ajaquith01 Really? I thought Jimi Hendrix was in Cream. [ Take that, you bloody troll... ]

  • @davidespinosa2 are you having a joke? cus eric clapton was in cream.

  • @zakkaW12 Yes, I was having a joke. Yes, I know that Clapton was in Cream. I figure most guitarists have subscriptions to Guitar World, Guitar Player, etc, and that they know most "common" facts, like who was in what band, who plays what kind of guitar, etc. So I figured that ajaquith01 was just being a pain the butt. But perhaps he was serious. Sorry if I offended anyone...

  • @davidespinosa2 hahah Jimi Hendrix in cream you must be joking !!

  • @davidespinosa2 In Cream were Jinjer Baker,Jack Bruce and E.C

  • I bet Clapton is gutted that he could never find the sound that Robert Johnson took to his grave...

  • @markhaskins They have something in common, they sold their souls to the devil.

  • Many can make your jaw drop with rabid sweep picking, few can make you shed a tear with one.

  • the original is so much better

  • Less is Best................!

  • Please vote for us, go to the playcrossroads website and type in fat_slap after it. Thank you

  • carajo! eso es todo master!

  • I love to hear crossroads played with a driving beat, and I think the drumming it adds a a lot to this version.

  • sweet

  • beast

  • It looked so fucking fun.

  • @mikerizzo42 rush's cover of this cover you mean?

  • @mikerizzo42 What!? rush wouldn't have hair growing on their balls if it weren't for this!

  • I was there and it was brilliant except for Phil Collins' drums which were miked up far too loud. You can hear Eric's guitar much better on the video than it was on the night. Never liked Phil Collins drumming, he doesn't have the swing required for this kind of music.

  • Maybe its a matter of taste. Unfortunatly I don´t have the age to have been able to experience this live (I´m only 34 years old), but I still think Phil does a good job. Anyway, sadly not many of the musicians today has nerve and vibe as these guys do.

  • yeah i agree that theyre too loud but still collins is a good drummer

  • great version.Agree with u jonnygoesrock if ure a great guitarist you wont worry about speed becuz the sound is important and the message not the speed that much..

  • Eric was younger! He had young power .

  • that must be one of the greatest feelings in the world. going on a stage in front of thousands of screaming fans knowing they have supported your music for decades, and getting to perform while creating heavenly music. i hope one day i come close to that

  • I was there

  • 5:15 - 5:16 - Nice push on bass XD

  • many fail to realise that to play with feeling takes TECHNIQUE... not your three notes per string type exercises but being able to sing through the instrument and transmit what you feel to the strings and the listener.. its much hard to play slowly with feeling than shred.. think of any good singer, you dont judge them on how many notes can belt out but how they transmit emotion.. same with guitar.

  • True !

speed ain't important for a good guitarist!

  • @jonnygoesrocK yeah, i'll take clapton or stevie ray over the emotionless machine that is dragonforce any day.

  • @RandomSpewBros Tom Petty had NOTHING to do with the death of Eric's sons death......

  • @RandomSpewBros the fact that you said that shows ignorance and a lack of better to do. Not only that, how offensive it is to accuse someone like that of murder. That childs death was a great loss and you say it just like its a strategy for blues. Be ashamed man.

  • @RandomSpewBros ,Holy shit you sorry fuckin excuse for human,..... to even think something like what you said,....that just absolutely fuckin blows me away.....dammit i swear to christ i would fuckin torture your sorry ass for 3 days before i cut your fuckin throat...if i ever met you face to face

  • @pearlforme Look it up dipshit! You hillbillies should read a book once in awhile. By the way, prick, I live in Seattle. I'll meet you anywhere as long as I get my coffee first.

  • @RandomSpewBros So.... like, can you give me the link where you read this =P can't find it anywhere =P

  • @RandomSpewBros tuff guy on the internet better watch out

  • @jonnygoesrocK and never will :)

  • @JOHNNYG99X well said.

  • check out john lee hooker on boom boom and watch his feet. not only singing, playing the guitar but his feet keep a different rhythm(each foot). i agree w/you my friend

  • I have never heard it put better than that! a much need analysis for all of those "speed freaks" out there. thanks

  • Agreed!

  • @JOHNNYG99X would only like to add that even those great guitarists that play with GREAT feeling sometimes shred too, if the song asks for it. Clapton's Solos are just as hard to play as are Rhapsody's or Angra's. If not harder because Clapton uses a lot less straight forward sequences of notes, as in metal they are mostly straight up and down scales.

  • @JOHNNYG99X I have to say that that is propably best comment ive ever seen at youtube! props for that :)

  • @JOHNNYG99X well said

  • @JOHNNYG99X Very good point. Please check David Gilmore with Pink Floyd. Not a lot of notes but tons of feeling. EC is my all time fav.

  • @sherrillwallace david gilmour does play a lot of notes from time to time, example: end solo on comfortably numb. but either way he puts so much emotion into it.

  • @JOHNNYG99X I am a singer and I agree ..I have heard countless singers who sing great but dont transmit..you dont leave there with anything..thats why you have to give it all you have...Frank Sinatra said everytime Judy Garland sings..shes a year older..

  • @JOHNNYG99X THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!Finally someone that actually knows something about playing

  • @JOHNNYG99X

Although Eric Clapton doesnt have the blues.

  • @JOHNNYG99X i agree with that..,,,,some of my friends think im stupid when i said playing slowhand with feelings a lot more cooler..,,,,,btw eric always be my idol

  • Hell if I care but I'd sure walk down to a crossroads and sign on the Devil's dotted line to be able to pull that off on a guitar.

    To Hell with it :)

  • hauahauaha ''guys, let's go to the hotel'' !!

  • SO AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • PHIL COLLINS HAD HAIR!!!! (It was even thinning then hahaha) Clapton>GOd

  • Phil Collins & Eric Clapton FTW!

  • The part where the drums kick in and Nathan East comes on stage: 100% AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • jeezus... Clapton will always be the best for centuries to come.

  • I'd rather have someone play 3 notes and give it life and feeling then listen to someone who can play 32th's for an hour on end...

    Technique < Feeling

  • who cares if he is faster, he can't play shit to clapton no good riffs or even a rememorable solo what does that say. Clapton can sing to

  • @SnoopPog -yep. he did these,riffs+wahwah pedal+base and incredible solos,already,age of 17,18,at Yardbirds+John Mayall's bluesbrakers,then Cream,in 1960's!SLOWHAND is brilliant,even,also older::my favorite, bluesman and singer aswell(even he did not like vocals,as young guitarist)

  • Clapton was ranked fourth in Rolling Stone magazine of the 100 Greatest Guitarists.

Two of his most successful recordings were "Layla", and "Crossroads",

which has been his staple song since the days of Cream.

In my opinion he is one of my favorite guitarist of all time. " Slowhand "

    New York City

    D.J. Sal Z

  • you are right. full stop

  • his technique is so smooth and clean, just makes playing look like the easiest thing in the world

  • To bad people won't realise how good he was untill he dies

  • Are you talking about Clapton? Cause it's pretty well settled with most Guitarist that he's the best living Guitarist!

I've never talked to anyone(hardcore metal shredders included) that don't have him in the top 5(at the very least) of all time greats!!!

  • thats bullshit man hes still alive....

  • hence the : "how good he was untill he dies"

  • That subtle change of the riff when the bass drum kicks in...ahh man.

    Clapton is God.

  • at 6:28, does anybody know how he does that vibrato shake like that? I can't figure it out.

  • Support the ring finger with th two fingers behind it for strength first of all. then--when you do the vib, lift your hand-and fingers -all but the tips of the finger and it's supports off the nexk entirely. Try to exaggerate the wideness. Soon it will feel like when the fingers go up the neck swings down--and vice-versa. Worked for me. Good Luck -

    michael henry martin

  • fantastic and i dont mean the cleaner

  • Eric Clapton has been a very true and faithful steward of this Blues music that God handed him to protect and expound!Big responsibility,he's handled very well

  • my favorite Clapton version of crossroads .. such sweet guitar playing man !

  • great sound / mix

  • Verrrry impressive, Skip, I thought I was the only person familiar with Super Session - Next to East-West, Bloomfield's best...

  • This is the 80's ?

  • 1986

  • ....play it..Not so easy!!!!!
