I don't get it, the guy that lit the device seems to be just fine.....it's just a shame he left his dummy leaning over that cake, probably ruined the effect. damn shame.
Yeah, cause I'm totally dumb enough to hold me head over an aerial repeater for 61 seconds. Give me a break. These videos are just meant to scare people and they have no real legitimate science content. Fireworks are SAFE if you follow the right precautions. Hey, we drive everyday in a small metal box hurtling down the road at 70+ miles per hour. But I don't see any videos trying to scare people out of driving. Hmmm... Maybe that's next.
if you think they are so unsafe, what gives you the right or anybody for that matter to use them. these demos are retarded. just b/c you have a license doesn't mean you are any safer than anyone else who uses common sense.
Go stand in the middle of the freeway for 35 seconds during rush hour. I bet the damage would be one thousand times worse. What to do? We can ban all cars and anything that has any chance of hurting us, or we can use our god given common sense and regulate what we do ourselves. That is a very hard question to answer, NOT. Only to those who have no common sense. What a stupid, childish commercial this is. I have seen better displays of safety at my childs 2nd grade science fair.
Consumer fireworks are safer today than ever before. And they are now sold in 46 states and the District of Columbia. As a member of NFPA, I am disappointed that instead of recognizing that the product is being used by millions of Americans and trying to educate them, NFPA makes this stupid video showing a person leaving their head over a fireworks product while it goes off. NFPA management is out of touch with its members. Whoever authorized this video should be fired.
@dhbakerlaw This video depicts a tragic scenario that we hear about all too often. Someone attempts to re-light fireworks that fail to immediately explode or discharge, and are seriously injured when they lean over the device as it explodes. Permanent scarring, loss of vision, dismemberment – these are too often the harsh realities of amateur fireworks use. Consider this: in 2008, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 7,000 people for fireworks-related injuries.
The proper procedure for dealing with "dud" fireworks is to let it stand for some time (preferably 30 minutes) and soak it in water. We should not try to ban fireworks just because some people don't have common sense.
By the way, skateboards are responsible for about 104,000 ER visits a year.
you are attempting to simulate the "common" scenario where people re-light multishot cakes and stand DIRECTLY over them for THE ENTIRE 35 SECONDS DURATION of the cake?
why can't the NFPA stop this yearly irrational and ridiculous display of laughable propaganda. NOBODY takes you seriously when you melt a Styrofoam head with a fountain or burn a hot dog with a sparkler. it's unrealistic fear mongering that NEVER happens in reality. zero credibility.
Instead of being nannies and trying to ban fireworks, the NFPA should grow some real balls and focus more on educating people how to use fireworks safely.
Consumer fireworks are dangerous when they are misused. The same goes with, say, skateboards. Compared to fireworks, skateboards are linked to 14 times as many ER visits. Are we going to ban skateboards too?
As shown in this video, anyone who puts a body over an active firework is going to get injuried. A person who does not understand "LIGHT FUSE, GET AWAY" should not be using fireworks.

@nfpadotorg
so let me get this straight...

@nfpadotorg If you drink too much alcohol, you could have severe alcohol poisoning/get into a wreck/or even die. Do we ban alcohol?

@nfpadotorg How many people attempt to relight a cake whilst simultaneously leaving their head directly over the cake for a full 35 seconds?

And if you put your face over a BBQ and turn it on you'll get hurt.
Should we ban BBQs?
