This trailer is misleading, the movie is awkward, the story teller is an asshole. The little girl is too young for acting because she cant even say her lines without being asked 10 times.

@SEGnosis How realistic would it be for a little 5 year old foreign girl to speak seamlessly? In the story English is her second language, this is used as: a plot device, illustrates the environment of 1915 LA and it shows how precocious she is. Her not being able "even say her lines" is deliberate. But you're probably too young for good acting or versimilitude. It's called realism. Go watch the dumb action movies of the 90s, or "Speed" so you can holler when the bus jumps over the bridge.

Unless you've lived under a hole, the way larger ideas don't immediately get through to her is how little kids actually think. And Roy wasn't an asshole. He was severely depressed after losing the use of his legs, and as a result he manipulates the girl into stealing enough morphine so he can attempt suicide. Maybe you should learn to cultivate your taste in movies.

If the movie didn't have any of the hospital scenes and was just the story the guy was telling(without him actually narrating it or anything) and THEN it ends with him in the hospital tricking the girl into getting him morphine, THEN it would have told you the twist.
