Hello! Just wondering if anyone could assist me. I have set up vpn server on my pc and vpn client on my laptop. Both are connecting fine. I just don't understand why we need vpn as I can already access my sharing folders without needing to log in. Did I do something wrong?

Type on google 'VpnAccounts' and click on the first website. It's so Cheap + Fast.

It supports:

PPTP

L2TP

SSTP

OpenVPN

I have been using it for the past 2 weeks. It works perfectly (better than all the VPN i ever used)

@abdelrahman142 Go easy with the 'better than all the others' claim. Different people have different requirements. Also, I would disagree with the cheap part: the cheapest I see there is $15, and all those protocols aren't supported by default, you have to pay $20 / month for an OpenVPN. I wouldn't call that 'so cheap'. Also, you forgot to mention they don't allow torrents / P2P. Whoops...

@torvpn @torvpn I suggest boxpn vpn service boxpn.com . Price is great $3.75 for yearly subscriptions and speed is very good. I use comcast and I'm getting 18-20Mbps download when I'm connected to boxpn.com vpn.

@kecsystems Let's see... They have no terms of service, no option for OpenVPN or SSH, the price is much higher if someone wants to go on a monthly basis (you have to pay more than $40 up front to get the $3.75 price you mentioned). But I guess if you're happy with it, that's fine.

After you set up this new connection, can you disable the other one (the one you're currently using)? Or do you need to have them both enabled for it to work properly?

Also is there a paid VPN you recommend? I'm looking at a few options right now, including StrongVPN.

@JunmaiShu Depends on what you mean by 'other one' and 'work properly'. Normally if you connect to one VPN then another, you'll be using the second one as the exit through the one you connected to first. Meaning that the IP address visible will be of the VPN you connected to last, and that VPN will see the first VPN server's IP. You can change that behaviour with routing, just google "route add" to see how to do that. Regarding your paid VPN question: see "buy-a-vpn,com" to help you decide

I don't mean 2 VPN connections, I just mean the one VPN (the new connection you just created), and your existing one that's already there. When I go into my Network Places and click on "View network connections", I have only 1 thing there right now... the listing for my wireless adapter. After setting up the VPN connection I'd then have 2 connections listed in there. I'm wondering if the VPN takes the place of the existing one, which I can then disable? Or should both be connected?

@JunmaiShu The VPN will show up as a separate connection (with its own IP address). Obviously you cannot disable the wireless as it is used to connect to the VPN server itself. Once you're connected, everything else goes through the VPN (using the wireless). Unless a different routing is configured. Privacy VPN services re-route everything so your communication goes through them (that's what you want).
