  • What a pity this clip wasn't better quality. Wish I's seen this performance!

  • VIva imazighan viva thamazgha

  • Wow, I sure would have liked to have checked that out.

  • man...this is sick dude ! whole lotta love in desert version. since the quality is shit i could not enjoy this so well but anyway the style it's played, it just kicks ass !!! thumbs up for Tinariwen and Robert Plant

  • I think this is a very good version of the song. The feel that Tinariwen adds makes it sound better, to me!

    Shame about the sound quality...

  • They started in Algeria in during the 1970's

  • @boutsi77 no, they started in 1990'S,

  • I like Algerian Folk music.... Great..

Did you have more form this concert?

    Greating Algerian

  • Tinariwen is from Mali

  • I WISH I WAS THERE!

  • LZ owes props to African-American and African music for much of their stuff. This a full circle. We all know where the soul/funk came from.

    Tinariwen rocks.

  • I love Mr Plant and I love Tinariwen. If you get the chance to see them live you difinitely should cos they are brilliant!

  • Musically this is intriguing but Tinariwen's lyrics are meaningful & deep, Whole Lotta Love is just a dumb sex song. Guess even serious desert people like to get down & dirty sometimes...

  • I'm a huge Zeppelin-fan and actually started listening to Tinariwen when I found their album at home. I had absolutly no idea the Robert Plant connection. But a lot of old rockers gets in to this sort of blues/rock from African bands and that kind of stuff. And no wonder, it's great.

  • raptoresque - agreed. I share your sentiments. Love LZ, Plant rocks, but seriously...

  • haha apparently youre one of the only ones that agree!

  • raptoresque - well you know how some folks are... mess with their idols and it's a mortal sin. Some people just can't tolerate anyone having a different opinion. :)

  • haha exactly. people are so dogmatic these days...

  • This is crude but thrilling

  • brilliant! love it , love both artists, together even better!

  • i do love this arabic-plantic experiment... i 've seen tinariwen both in milano and taormina... pity i've lost this gig.

    ciao

  • The strange sensations guitarist looks like such a fool in this video..jumping round kinda ruins the cool vibes

  • That guitarist is Justin Adams -- Justin is actually the one who INTRODUCED Robert to Tinarwin, and Justin is the reason Robert was invited to do the Concert in the Desert. If Justin looks like a "fool" jumpin around in the video and ruins the vibe for you, I can understand that, but Tinariwen loves Justin and he's good friends with all of them. Robert wouldn't have been in this video at all if it weren't for Justin.

  • The Tuareg and Tinariwen aren't a bunch of naive desert-dwellers. They're sophisticated people who have been exposed to diverse cultures over many decades. It's rather patronising to imply that Tinariwen are being exploited by Plant or anyone else they choose to collaborate with.

  • The success of Tinariwen is their skill at mixing contemporary western music (use of electric guitars and western rhythms) with traditional Tuareg rhythms, vocals and instruments. They have already moved beyond the 'purist' Tuareg traditions that ignorant western fans here seem to be romanticising.

  • yes the duck walk is an old Chuck move despite Goodbooks protests. Didnt Plant appear at the 'Festival in the Desert' gig a couple of years back hence the connection? not sure this is 'amazing' but ah well, maybe next time

  • I love how everyone on here thinks they're Tinariwen's cultural experts. Yes, this may kill a lot of your dreams that they're just innocent desert dwellers with music in their hearts, but please, they've been touring for years. This is very obviously a random jam session that they broke into at the show. Justin Adams helped them get heard and recognized, keeping in desert tradition and hospitality, wouldn't you invite your friends to play along too if they helped you out?

  • Plant is an innovator..if you check his progress since zeppelin he has worked on some amazingly diverse musically brilliant projects which dont gain as much attention as his more mainstream work. he is always trying to push his boundaries and says that if stairway to heaven is the one thing he is remembered for, he will die very unhappy.plant has been a supporter of tiariwen long before anyone heard of them

  • This must have been amazing.. I even like it with the distortion actually.. awesome

  • ::MOANING::

Alright, that's it..... I'm going to quit reading all the ridiculous b.s. people post after these videos... it's all blah blah blah, opinions are SO BORING and NOT HELPFUL.

Or in the words of the great wise philosopher Steven Tyler -- TALK IS CHEAP. SHUT UP AND DANCE.

  • hypocrite, your opinion is the most boring one written so far

  • My opinion that people who spout negativity are boring bores you?

    lol

  • ...I like Tinariwen and Robert Plant. People slamming things is boring. So sorry to have upset you. I'll crawl back under my stone for you now.

  • well thank thankyou

  • With all due respect, playing with "the" robert probably helped raise the profile of Tinariwen substantially. And I doubt the payment for that gig, album sales and all other live performances/tours embodies the dignity and nobility of toureg life. They are essentially just a band, playing instruments for love and money not some sort of political or ethical symbol.

  • That white guy dancing around like a fairy while showing off, he's a motherfucking disgrace.

Tinariwen emobdy the dignity and nobility of Touareg life. They don't need some overexcited middle-aged Dad Rocker dancing around like yer Uncle Ted on Ecstasy.

    What a fucking wanker!!!

  • Yes the sound does not showcase them that well, it's really too bad...

  • Shame about the sound but it shows Tinariwen can play other's songs with consideration and style (coughsantanacough).

BTW Chuck Berry did a lot to promote R&B, but most of his generation got their chops from Bo Diddley. Check it out.

Either that or a copy of Aman Iman fell through a time warp :)

  • TInariwen+Robert Plant= AWESOME!

  • there was a celidh moment in the middle of that-some mad bloke with a guitar doin riverdance-what was all that about!!???

  • The mad bloke in question is Justin Adams, Robert Plant's guitarist.

  • hes very silly-no entertainment value at all there, unless of course youre Michael Flatley, he'd love it

  • Sorry you weren't at this show and this is a very short extract.

Justin is one of the best rock guitarist in the world, and yes, this evening, everybody had entertainement and fun.

  • sorry my friend-Justin Adams isnt even the best guitarist in Strange Sensation- but hey!, its all about opinion

  • He was doing a classic rock move made most famous by Chuck Berry during the song "Johnny B Good." It was used by every classic rocker at some point, including Jimmy Hendrix, in part as homage to Chuck Berry the black roots of rock and in part because it's difficult to do those moves while continuing to riff.

Just thought a little rock music history would be useful here.

It is an amazing moment in rock combining TInariwen and Led Zepplin.

  • How dare you compare those moves to Chuck Berry. He was NOT doing 'a classic rock move.. blah blah blah'

He was poncing around like a balding, middle-class, public school Dad Rocker who probably adores and modeled himself on that boring bald shite from Dire Straits.

He deserves a good kicking, the prat.

  • @mondesecret I couldn't tell, fuck, why did he have to do that silly shit though

  • thats what im talking about

  • un grand moment de rock'n roll!!

  • you are so right!, seen tinariwen recently!!!, absolutely the best band iv ever seen!!! crowd couldnt get enough!!, seen them in edinburgh, scotland!, would love to see robert plant!, you have great taste in music!, take care!!!

  • Tinariwen are incredible i love them and this sounds amazing with plant! im wtching them in a festival in norway this summer i cant wait!
