Off the subject. Just beat the game! Good overall but TOO MANY puzzles! No place for puzzles in an adventure game. Must be at least 20-30 if not more. Complaints about puzzles in game call KONAMI at 310-220-8330. Hopefully the next one has no puzzles or animals stealing our relics/magic.
Rygar (2002) for the PS2 - Greek Mythology story with chain-like weapon that does accumulating combo hits.....what does that sound like to you all? That's right, level design even resemble GOW. So if you want to talk about a ripoff......
I played the demo and let me tell ya`ll i was very impressed.Don`t listen to those stupid game sites that gave this game low ratings.They on video game crack.They like to say this is a G.O.W rip off but G.O.W ripped off Rygar which came out on PS2 3 years before G.O.W.And i have all three G.O.W games for Console and one for PSP and its a great series so i`m not bias at all.
Actually in case it aint been said before, chain whip in original castlevania for NES in 1986 - I remember I completed it and everyone since then bar the n64 version

Those, who considers that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is alike on GOW, probably did not play another game, except GOW. As well as did not play other parts of Castlevania. New Castlevania, surprising game. May be it's not like a previous parts, but the canon of characters is observed.
@Rulo303 Lol. Tell that to all the critics who gave God of War III 9.0-10/10 and Castlevania 7.0-8.0/10. In fact, I've yet to see a single review score for Castlevania that tops any for God of War. Now isn't that funny?
@aandrew07 thats just my opinion dude. i just find inexcusable that a game with such high expectations as gow only last 6 hours. lords of shadow can easily last 20 hours or more and every single one of them is more enjoyable than gow. and gameplay wise lords of shadow has much more depth than the other. but then again, thats just my opinion and i dont care if the noobs of ign or gametrailers dont agree
@Rulo303 Woah. 6 hours? God of war II was 17 hours, and God of War III was 15. Chains of Olympus on PSP was like 7. I downloaded the demo for Castlevania, it's fun as hell. I'm definitely getting it, but I really enjoy God of War better.
It's true, all of the Castlevania games were very good. They all shared a common thread of the Belmonts kicking vampire ass. The soundtracks rock too. The story lines are what keep me playing them.
I just finished the game yesterday (18 hrs). I had lows expectations on this in particular. I thougth it was just another imitation of WOW (It do has similarities), It's just a masterpiece from the storyline, the epic music (i got excited when i was with the titans), the beautifuls and richs landscape (AWSOME GRAPHICS). It has one of the most brilliant endings in the history of videogames (JAW DOWN). MUST HAVE

Second,i have the game and i both like GoW and Cv and i can certenly see that there is a huge different on the atmosphere of both games,this certenly feels like a Castlevania and a damn good one so unless you have some sort of experience
Damn... If it's fun to play, what the hell does anyone care? That's the point. If the story and gameplay are awesome, isn't that what games are meant to be? It's not like anyone complained back in the day of side-scrollers like Duke Nukem and Commander Keen... A lot of you need to grow up or see how hard it is to make these games from experience. This looks like an interesting game. Castlevania has struggled in its move to 3D, and using y 20/20 hindsight I think the franchise would have worked perfectly as a survival horror style game designed after Resident Evil 4. You don't really need absurdly powerful and cartoonish mega weapons and moves either because RE4 even succeeded with its very realistic assortment of weapons. I think Castlevania would work great with less action and with more creepy if you get my drift.

meh, sorry guys doesnt look that appealing. I personally miss the 2d castlevania game days. We didnt need to make 50,000 foot monsters to show us that games kicked ass. This looks good but it reaks of stale gameplay and lackluster music. Remarkably similar to gow, castlevania might have been first but it certainly isnt doing too much to make things new. Kind of a dissapointment after waiting this long.
@TheAce24 I guess you haven't played any of the 2D games that came after SotN, because most of them featured huge set piece bosses, no different than the titans in LoS. I'm sorry, but everytime one of you post-SotN era Castlevania fans complains about the look or feel of this reboot, I have to question what you actually know about Castlevania to begin with. Face it, THIS is what Castlevania should look like in 3D. LoI and CoD were just OK, and Judgement was a downright embarrassment.
well ur right on one account. I never really did get into any games after sotn except the ds ones which were pretty cool, but even those dont have sooooo much huge enemies. The reason why I never played a lot of castlevania games after sotn is prolly the same as most people. Most of them SUCKED. I dont mind hack and slash games. I love the orginals. I don't know where some of you got the impression that Castlevania was an RPG game. It's always been a hack and slash game........the 2D games even moreso than the 3D ones. I think some of you are just miffed about this not being "Japanese" enough and that Alucard is not in it.

@TheAce24 I wasn't addressing you personally with my whole post. I was generalizing about some of the people that typically complain about the way this reboot is going. And I don't think you have to worry about Gabriel becoming Dracula. I've already pieced that together. It would make no sense and would, in effect, kill the new franchise before it starts. I do think that he will be responsible for unleashing Dracula onto the world, however.
I personally like the 2d castlevania games but then again I dont mind change if its done well. If they can do a good 3d castlevania game I would love it. Just dont want it straying. The whip and moves looks remarkably similar to kratos' weapon and moves I will do my best to put that out of my mind and of course give the game a chance. As long as it doesnt stray too far away from what we are used to I am fine with it. Hope it has some old cv music too :)
@TheAce24 Well I know alot of ppl keep commenting on how similar Gabriel's usage of the chain is to Kratos', but as I keep pointing out....there are only so many ways to fight with such a chain-based weapon. There's bound to be similarities. It's no different than having a short sword wielding hero in one game using similar combos as that of a hero from another game.
@TheAce24 I think that, once you actually get into the game, those reminders of GoW will fade back and you'll enjoy playing a Belmont once again. As far as the 2D series, I think that we can still look forward to many years of those as well. Unfortunately, we may not be enjoying them on the consoles too much. Konami really needs to remedy that. There are tons of players out there (like myself) that will gladly pay for a brand new, top notch 2D Vania produced for the Wii, 360, or PS3.
Yeah I agree there are only so many ways u can do a weapon like that and thats why I am going to keep going and really give this game a chance as I love castlevania and I grew up with so I would never diss it cause its an excellent series. Thats why I dont want to see it go bad like other series. I really hope this turns out to be a good game cause I know the hype is putting this game up on a huge pedastal. It looks cool and if presented right I think might be able to deliver
@TheAce24 Well, like someone said on another video comments section.....I'd rather see this game fail for trying than see it just do the same thing it has done for the last 10 years. Even if some of the new elements don't work that well, those that do will improve the formula for the next 3D installment that comes down the line.
Thats true, I give them props for trying something new, just dont change it too drastically. I also dont mind 3d castlevania, but me and I think alot of other people too would like another good 2d castlevania. That would be cool if they could make a good 2d castlevania game and put it on the ps3
a good 3d castlevania game. I really hope they dont make into a gow, shadows of collosues game where there are 10,000 foot enemies everywhere. I dont mind that just not every boss. Also I hope (and it looks like they are) they put some throw backs to old castlevania games like music and enemies. That looks ok so far so I can relax on that one. As for the weapon I will let it go (though its hard) and focus on the other aspects of the game. I as well as you hope this will be good
it will be almost all big bosses which is what castlevania is NOT about. That would be bad. I dont mind big bosses but when almost every one is a big boss that is the suck. There have always been big bosses in castlevania games which is fine, but this time it looks strangely like god of war stylish. I dont mind epic but you have a limit on it because while castlevania should be epic i dont think it should be too epic as thats not what castlevania is about. 3d cv cant compare to 2d
@TheAce24 He's supposed to be the first of his bloodline. If he became Dracula, he would also be the last. I think this will be a case of a family being forever burdened with having to clean up a mess that its grief-struck forefather inflicted upon the world. And you shouldn't worry about all the bosses being titans. I think there's going to be a number of bosses and mini-bosses that are more appropriately sized for a man to fight. I'm just saying give it a chance.....might actually be good

@spyx94 Its more (and correct) God of war is a resemblance to the action-games that game out for ps2! Castlevania: Lament of innocense/Curse of darkness, Devil may cry, Onimusha and Shadow of the colossus! God of war copied from these games. Quick-time events? Shen mue + Biohazard 4. Period
@spyx94 Castlevania came first. Lament of Innocence and DMC came out several years before the first GoW. So yea, GoW is a riff off of DMC and Castlevania, originally......not the other way around.
Although classic Castlevania such as Curse of Darkness is my favorite kind of Castlevania, I'm really looking forward to this new field they're exploring. For those who keep on saying this is a God of War clone, please remember Prince of Persia was released before it and although it has many revolutionary features, it's not the only one of it's kind. Before poiting out it's a clone, play and pay attention to it's own features, for you may be missing a terrific game due to ignorance.
What about Alucard? Will he appear in this game???? It's unbearable... I love him, I just love him.. So why?.. There was another game Catlevania next-gen or something like that with Alucard as a main character... Why has it been canceled??? Grrr.... WTF.

Why is everything, and I mean everything, always compared to GoW? I've never played any of the GoW games, and honestly don;t plan on it either. I own a xbox 360 and thats it, so for those reviewers and gamers alike that are always touting "GoW rip!"should consider that there is a fresh market for these games. For instance I own Dante's Inferno, and having never played GoW I thought it was good.

Funny thing. When my friend and I first played the god of war demo back in 05' i believe it was, first thing we said to each other was and I quote "It's just like the whip from castlevania"....Lords of Shadow could be a re skinned God of War for all I care but I grew up playing these games.
I will say this is a great looking game. My only gripe: why does it have to be non-canon? This is just my opinion: But fans (including myself) would have gone crazy if instead it was the Demon Castle War featuring Julius Belmont in his prime!

God of War (PS2). Released in 2005. Who's ripping off of who? Castlevania usually has a different kind of gameplay than this, but even then, THEY STILL HAD THAT GAMEPLAY BEFORE GOD OF WAR. So how about you guys stop bitching about the similarity?
To all you kiddies who thinks GoW is the only platformer ever existed: here's a little history recap for you. The first Castlevania game came out in 1986, long before your dad fucked your mum to produce you. It has over 30 titles in the series, and is in Guinness World Records for the longest running Action/Adventure series.
By all rights, you should say GoW is a rip off from Castlevania. The Belmonts have been kicking ass long before Kratos had his puberty.
Hold on.....this game is going to own, a true Castlevania installment. Castlevania + Kojima + Inspiration from say Super Castlevania = nothing short of legendary in my opinion. Even God of War will be forgotten when Konami unleashes the beast that is Castlevania.
First there is a commercial for a movie that I don't want to see then the Machinima Logo and then the Konami Logo all to see Billy Ray Cyrus in a Castlevania game. This sucks!
If Castlevania resembles GOW or vise versa, I say good! This game deserves the graphics and gameplay like GOW. The last two entries were kinda weak. Especially Lament of Innocence (way too short). I just hope the next entry brings back the free roaming of town and other castle explorations like part 2, Simon's Quest. Oh and bring back the flame whip.
2) The main badguy is Death or someone like that and Gabriel actually becomes Dracula after gaining the mask. ( imean come on, he wears clothing similar to the style of clothing worn by tepes dynasty, his wife died and he is searching for a dark power to (supposedly) resurrect her. Not to mention that his own weapon becoming the only thing that can kill him would be awesome)
there are 3 main bad guys, the three lords of shadows who have a part of the mask which he wants for bringing back his wife from the dead, but its possible that that happens after getting the mask
pd:depending on the version there are more things that can kill dracula apart from (a cruzifix u call it?) maybe it is the only thing in castlevania, ive never played it
NO i mean the MAIN badguy AFTER the three "main" badguys.
And yes, according to previous games, the ONLY (well pretty much only) thing that can kill Dracula is Vampire Killer, a magical whip "created" for sole purpose of killing Dracula and the only weapon that can harm him

as for what I think of the long argumentative GOW vs. CV issue, I say leave the "We will never let anyone make a clearly more useful/successful use of our constantly recycled concept... even though we make very mediocre games around it" argument to Konami. Why does it bother so much that CV looks a bit like GOW!? it'll have the same bad game physics and horrible gameplay as it's previous 3D CV games! So no one will care in the end anyway. I know Konami sues a lot but you know... they need money.
Knowing's Konami habits of recycling game concepts over and over again (DDR, Contra) and being reminded on how horrid were the 3d castlevanias were before (Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence), I'm very afraid of what the results will be. A sight of the gameplay in this video tells me he's gonna run faster than in CoD, but the LAME attacking physics looks the exact same as that horrible game. You know Konami... all that money you gained from lawsuits would be best invested in new ideas!

This game looks pretty cool...I hope. This is more like a movie trailer, and I think that actually helps give this game a sort of, "grand scale." 9/10! Though perhaps a bit generous...
But gotta say, I think I love inexperienced child gamers more :D This game vs GoW isn't even slightly amusing, though. What ever happened to Samus vs. Master Chief? Or, my favorite, "Warhammer 40K, damn this game is cool, it's like StarCraft! Look at the Space Marin- Oh...Games Workshop copyright : / ...."

hes right, Castlevania came out before GoW. even if this game is borrowing a few gameplay functions...its pretty much safe to say GoW was propbly in some shape or form inspired by the earlier Castlevania's. with this game coming out its a smarter verson of GoW if you think about it :) (which isnt too hard cuz GoW is a meathead game anyway)

Will Konami finally just accept that they set the stage for these games and in doing so doesn't have to make Castlevania: God of War edition? Shadow Complex was a side scroller, featured 3D elements, utilized the Metroidvania game play, and was nearly perfect. This game looks great, but does it feel like a Castlevania game to you when watching it? I want Symphony of the Night, not Devil May Cry. What the fuck do I know? Why make a less expensive game that is more fun and stays true to itself?

I agree. This game is so big and different than GOW 3. I`m playing now, currently at chapter 5 and its just a real adventure.
It has some GOW elements but thats it. Like other people say Castlevania on the PS2 already had chain/whip combat.
And did I say this game was big? Oh my god its so great!

It's true, all of the Castlevania games were very good. They all shared a common thread of the Belmonts kicking vampire ass. The soundtracks rock too. The story lines are what keep me playing them.

I just finished the game yesterday (18 hrs). I had lows expectations on this in particular. I thougth it was just another imitation of WOW (It do has similarities), It's just a masterpiece from the storyline, the epic music (i got excited when i was with the titans), the beautifuls and richs landscape (AWSOME GRAPHICS). It has one of the most brilliant endings in the history of videogames (JAW DOWN). MUST HAVE

This looks like an interesting game. Castlevania has struggled in its move to 3D, and using y 20/20 hindsight I think the franchise would have worked perfectly as a survival horror style game designed after Resident Evil 4. You don't really need absurdly powerful and cartoonish mega weapons and moves either because RE4 even succeeded with its very realistic assortment of weapons. I think Castlevania would work great with less action and with more creepy if you get my drift.

meh, sorry guys doesnt look that appealing. I personally miss the 2d castlevania game days. We didnt need to make 50,000 foot monsters to show us that games kicked ass. This looks good but it reaks of stale gameplay and lackluster music. Remarkably similar to gow, castlevania might have been first but it certainly isnt doing too much to make things new. Kind of a dissapointment after waiting this long.

I'm sorry, but everytime one of you post-SotN era Castlevania fans complains about the look or feel of this reboot, I have to question what you actually know about Castlevania to begin with. Face it, THIS is what Castlevania should look like in 3D. LoI and CoD were just OK, and Judgement was a downright embarrassment.

@TheAce24 I wasn't addressing you personally with my whole post. I was generalizing about some of the people that typically complain about the way this reboot is going. And I don't think you have to worry about Gabriel becoming Dracula. I've already pieced that together. It would make no sense and would, in effect, kill the new franchise before it starts. I do think that he will be responsible for unleashing Dracula onto the world, however.

I personally like the 2d castlevania games but then again I dont mind change if its done well. If they can do a good 3d castlevania game I would love it. Just dont want it straying. The whip and moves looks remarkably similar to kratos' weapon and moves I will do my best to put that out of my mind and of course give the game a chance. As long as it doesnt stray too far away from what we are used to I am fine with it. Hope it has some old cv music too :)

@TheAce24 Well I know alot of ppl keep commenting on how similar Gabriel's usage of the chain is to Kratos', but as I keep pointing out....there are only so many ways to fight with such a chain-based weapon. There's bound to be similarities. It's no different than having a short sword wielding hero in one game using similar combos as that of a hero from another game.

@TheAce24 I think that, once you actually get into the game, those reminders of GoW will fade back and you'll enjoy playing a Belmont once again. As far as the 2D series, I think that we can still look forward to many years of those as well. Unfortunately, we may not be enjoying them on the consoles too much. Konami really needs to remedy that. There are tons of players out there (like myself) that will gladly pay for a brand new, top notch 2D Vania produced for the Wii, 360, or PS3.

Although classic Castlevania such as Curse of Darkness is my favorite kind of Castlevania, I'm really looking forward to this new field they're exploring. For those who keep on saying this is a God of War clone, please remember Prince of Persia was released before it and although it has many revolutionary features, it's not the only one of it's kind. Before poiting out it's a clone, play and pay attention to it's own features, for you may be missing a terrific game due to ignorance.

I own a xbox 360 and thats it, so for those reviewers and gamers alike that are always touting "GoW rip!"should consider that there is a fresh market for these games. To all you kiddies who thinks GoW is the only platformer ever existed: here's a little history recap for you. The first Castlevania game came out in 1986, long before your dad fucked your mum to produce you. It has over 30 titles in the series, and is in Guinness World Records for the longest running Action/Adventure series.
By all rights, you should say GoW is a rip off from Castlevania. The Belmonts have been kicking ass long before Kratos had his puberty.

If Castlevania resembles GOW or vise versa, I say good! This game deserves the graphics and gameplay like GOW. The last two entries were kinda weak. Especially Lament of Innocence (way too short). I just hope the next entry brings back the free roaming of town and other castle explorations like part 2, Simon's Quest. Oh and bring back the flame whip.

Two possibilities:
1) The main badguy is actually Dracula.
2) The main badguy is Death or someone like that and Gabriel actually becomes Dracula after gaining the mask. ( imean come on, he wears clothing similar to the style of clothing worn by tepes dynasty, his wife died and he is searching for a dark power to (supposedly) resurrect her. Not to mention that his own weapon becoming the only thing that can kill him would be awesome)

there are 3 main bad guys, the three lords of shadows who have a part of the mask which he wants for bringing back his wife from the dead, but its possible that that happens after getting the mask
pd:depending on the version there are more things that can kill dracula apart from (a cruzifix u call it?) maybe it is the only thing in castlevania, ive never played it

as for what I think of the long argumentative GOW vs. CV issue, I say leave the "We will never let anyone make a clearly more useful/successful use of our constantly recycled concept... even though we make very mediocre games around it" argument to Konami. Why does it bother so much that CV looks a bit like GOW!? it'll have the same bad game physics and horrible gameplay as it's previous 3D CV games! So no one will care in the end anyway. I know Konami sues a lot but you know... they need money.

Knowing's Konami habits of recycling game concepts over and over again (DDR, Contra) and being reminded on how horrid were the 3d castlevanias were before (Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence), I'm very afraid of what the results will be. A sight of the gameplay in this video tells me he's gonna run faster than in CoD, but the LAME attacking physics looks the exact same as that horrible game. Here's a solution to this problem, having played both series myself:
God of War did not copy Castlevania
Castlevania did not copy God of War
Both Games are awesome end of story.

This game looks pretty cool...I hope. This is more like a movie trailer, and I think that actually helps give this game a sort of, "grand scale." 9/10! Though perhaps a bit generous...
But gotta say, I think I love inexperienced child gamers more :D This game vs GoW isn't even slightly amusing, though. What ever happened to Samus vs. Master Chief? Or, my favorite, "Warhammer 40K, damn this game is cool, it's like StarCraft! Look at the Space Marin- Oh...Games Workshop copyright : / ...."

I don´t care about that God of War- Castlevania crap conflict; I only say they are both gory games, and if you are satisfied with one of them, don´t criticize the other. Because that´s the so hated intolerance.

hes right, Castlevania came out before GoW. even if this game is borrowing a few gameplay functions...its pretty much safe to say GoW was propbly in some shape or form inspired by the earlier Castlevania's. with this game coming out its a smarter verson of GoW if you think about it :) (which isnt too hard cuz GoW is a meathead game anyway)

I really liked this game the first time it came out...... when it was called God of War!!!
Those who are so blind to think this is not a GOW rippoff wake up. He gains life and magic the same way, tutorials are the same, enemies enter the same way. Grow up and admit it. Im saddened that such a great series would die to a 5yr old game engine. I love the NES and PSX Castlevanias but this is just lame.... I SAY LAME SIR!!!!

Will Konami finally just accept that they set the stage for these games and in doing so doesn't have to make Castlevania: God of War edition? Shadow Complex was a side scroller, featured 3D elements, utilized the Metroidvania game play, and was nearly perfect. This game looks great, but does it feel like a Castlevania game to you when watching it? I want Symphony of the Night, not Devil May Cry. What the fuck do I know? Why make a less expensive game that is more fun and stays true to itself?

God people just stop god of war and castlevania cuz we all know castlevania was the 1st one.The main protoganist gabriel belmont is the father of leon.Lord of shadows take place before lament of innocence.The Whip is called the cross whip.
