  • this monster was on the cover of some FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND cover....and was ripped off for the 4th/ STAR WARS movie in a short scene.

  • who created the special effects for that 1962 Jack the Giant Killer and this infrared test?

These models look way better than the ones in the film

  • @hjfgjafk Jim Danforth and Wah Chang did the stop motion work based on the Delgado models.

  • @hjfgjafk It is still a good movie with good stop motion work, even if it is a blatant rip off of Sinbad.

  • It doesn't sound like Jim Danforth's voice to me.

I saw this sea monster puppet at Wah Changs house in 1970.

I assume the infrared was for some kind of travelling matte test but as far as I know the puppets were shot using miniature rear projection.

The only part of the Kong armature they used were two fingers so the

giant could grab the anchor and hold on to it.

  • @oprep3 It is Danforth's voice. Sounds just like his voice on the commentary for Equinox by Criterion.

  • Why infrared tests?

  • The Sea Monster in this clip looks way better then the one that appeared in the movie.

  • What does Mr. Danforth mean by "infrared" in his narration?

  • WOW! I can clearly see that the sea monster is different and the two headed giant is bald!

  • Petty decent f/x for stop motion stuff.

  • The two-headed giant model recently sold at auction. Not sure who got hold of it.

  • I hate when that happens.

  • I'm assuming this is from the Japanese dvd release?

I have a picture of that sea creature puppet as it is today. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • I too have one. Its in the collection of Bob Burns

  • Neat! Got more outtakes/tests you can post? I love this movie!

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS? im so jealous....

  • where is this rare footage from and is there more? one of my favourite movies.

    Delf

  • I have the footage. Its in Jim's private collection. But it can be seen in the Japanese Robojox collection

  • Interesting clip. The 2-headed giant is rather poor, but the sea monster is superior to the one used in the film. Thanks for posting this.

  • I guess these are the models built using the old KING KONG armatures before they decided that they were too old and worn to be reliable.

  • no they aren't the old kong armatures they are built-up in the same method the kong puppets were, which means they weren't casted latex.

  • Wow!

Could you please upload more stuff like that?

Like the trailer to TIMEGATE or something like that?

  • The narrator is Jim Danforth.

  • Who is narrating it? Is that the voice of Jim Danforth?
