Oh please, the state of Florida got ripped-off'ed at the booths during the 2000 Presidential Elections' not to mention, Republicans exploited the ethnic tension by having the Cuban, La Rosa Blanco dumped the entire ballots down the river.
Where was the uproar when it became evident that shenanigans was going on? None! ...I find all of this lame, since its republican backing and Tea Baggers duping them to target Barack Obama. Man heads will roll when he leaves office! lol
This woman is ditzy, it doesn't matter that many blacks don't understand what the term "civil rights" actually means. All citizens have the right to civil-rights. And though I have come to loathe white gays, they like all of us deserve civil rights period!
@plutogirllovekj No, she makes a good point. The people who opposed gay marriage played upon people's ignorance, They used scare tactic to promote confusion and fear.
@josbo51715 I love how anybody who disagrees with any of your type's views is "ignorant." Ignorant of what, exactly? Your opinion? Sorry, we're well aware of your opinions. In reality, not only are you the ignorant ones, but you're also pompous and conceited, which of course only amplify the ignorance. I actually support gay marriage, but I know you use the same ridiculous accusation for a host of other "politically correct" (read: insane) beliefs.
@PumpingSmashkins No moron! The republicans were telling lies. They were telling people that ministers would get arrested for not performing same-sex marriages. They were telling people that marriage is a religious institution when it's not. The people who don't support gay marriage do not have correct information. They are ignorant. Get it now dummy?
@PumpingSmashkins If you are tired of debating idiots, I suggest that you stop debating yourself. The bottom line is that republicans celebrate ignorance. The reason that most republicans are against gay marriage is because they are uniformed (ignorant). Republicans believed that pastors would be jailed it they chose not to perform same-sex marriages. Republicans believed that children would be force to learn about gay marriage in school. These is all ignorance. Anything else dummy?
@josbo51715 "Uninformed" to you brainless zombies simply means "has a different opinion." The more apt one is to throw about the "ignorant" insult (while clearly having absolutely no clue what the word really means) the more truly ignorant that person almost invariably is. You're just Exhibit A.
@PumpingSmashkins You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts. And what's more problematic is that your opinion affects the rights of others. When you stop judging other people's lifestyles based on your religious beliefs, then we can talk, Until then, you are just another brainwashed idiot Christian who deserves no respect from me.
@josbo51715 You're more retarded than I thought; I'm an atheist. I didn't think it was POSSIBLE for you to be more retarded than I thought, but congratulations: you pulled it off.
@josbo51715 What are you, six? "Stop debating yourself?" Way to break out the "I know you are, but what am I?" "rebuttal." Except it even makes LESS sense in this context than when the typical first-grader uses it. Congratulations on proving my point. Again.
@plutogirllovekj my understanding as to why many blacks voted against gay marriage is that more of the voting crowd were older and more conservative
Theres also a lot of equating the gay movement to the civil rights movement, and even though there are a lot of similarities, one: its not nearly as severe in terms of the nationwide hate black people faced and two: when you see gay people in media, theyre all white and there doesnt seem to be any black people leading the gay movement in the west
@Khrene this isn't an excuse, there was just no drum up of support for gays in the black community, and faced with an foreign problem people stuck with what they know and the religion they follow.
Ironically enough its a religion that Anglo-Europeans whipped, beat and raped into our people by taking us away from our land, and keeping us ignorant. Even more ironic after making that realization, it takes a while to realize that africans sold other african to the european/american slave drivers.
i love this woman! fox brought her on thinking they had some easy questions to drive home their bigoted and racist attitudes "but interestingly enough you feel different" give me a break faux
She's trying to teach your dumb asses about cultual appropriation, whiteness and entitlement! The woman has the patience of a saint and the diplomacy of Obama. Unfortunately, it won't do any good. White queers are refusing to look at the part their racism had in it and taking their usual attitude that those poor ignorant, homophobic blacks need to be enlightened by their superior intelligence. The ones who need to be schooled are the white queers who created the racist ads before the election.
I think one reason there is such a thing as a gay community is because our society is so sexulized as it is. so much of what we see and hear has to do with sex, hetero sex yes, but sex nonetheless. In cultures that are conservative about sex, you don't see "gay" being the primary label for a person's identity. And I agree 100% gay rights isn't a civil rights issues like race-based issues. If you're black, there's no hiding/changing it.
Also I would like to know how much time did you in fact donate to the effort? You seem to have a lot of time to criticize it after the fact, so I wold like to know where you were during the whole thing. Not trying to be critical, would just like to know...
they did not spend significant resources appealing to one specific population I don't think was out of neglect or lack of understanding, but out of lack of resources. To extend significant resources to a part of the population which is frankly not that significant I think would have just been stupid. The whole point of the campaign was to be inclusive, of all people, and the fact that Blacks were not in string support cannot merely be blamed on lack of outreach on the campaigns part.
There is hostility in the Black community towards gays. It's a fact. I may even argue that no amount of appealing to Black communities about Prop 8 will bring a significant portion of the Black population a board. Also blaming the organizers of the Anti- 8 campaign for not getting Blacks on board I think is unfair. They did not go about the campaign with the sole purpose of appealing to white people. They tried to appeal to the general population, the fact that...
Well then there should be more out African American gays. At least 10% of their population (or any other population on Earth) are gay so they could make a pretty defining movement. If it is the church that is keeping Afro American gays in the closet then we need to send a message to them that their religion shouldn't dictate their lives. Maybe we shouldn't even have religion seeing as it leads people into unjustified prejudice. But thats another story.
How can you even suggest some crazy mess like that! Our people have enough barriers to deal with that white folk don't have to endure. There are several reasons why so many African Americans won't come out. But you obviously can't relate. Besides, the white gay community never makes an effort to include us in any movements unless its a benefit to them. So why in the hell would people come out without support?
I recommend the YT vid "daughter of a gay man speaks". An APA study wrongly & incompetently found that women (in general) do not experience significant emotional repercussions from abortion (s).The findings have been modified, but the point is that there were methodological flaws in the original studies. People who accept conditional findings of studies at face value are very naive. Imagine a study purporting to find that women are not harmed by non-violent rape! That too makes no sense
Where do you get off telling people of color how to be queer or how to be black?
Did you ever think that the whole problem is the racist white LGBT leadership telling people what our issues should be, what our priorities should be and how we should believe and behave? Maybe the white LGBT leadership needs to step down and let other voices be heard for a change?
@JadenTheCoolGuy You have no idea what you're talking about! Where would these black gays go when they are rejected by their community?? They certainly are not welcome in the larger white gay community, which showed it's racist tendencies after the prop 8 vote! I am pro gay rights, but if you expect black gays to turn away from their community to end up in the wilderness then you are just living in la la land!! Also white gays do not understand black gays race vs sexuality dilemma! its complex!
If a black gay person needs a place to go, I plan to create a safe Haven for all of us to talk.
In the future, I plan to create a Safe Haven website for all gay people, regardless of color or ethnic background where we can all talk and feel safe.
he acting like black people don't believe in dumb religion like whites Cali is 58.9% White American including Hispanic
35.9% are Hispanic or Latino (of any race)[ 6.2% Black or African American so what is he trying to say. Bill is a bigot. Black church did not put up the money for t.v.ads and posters. black people are Americans too bill and christian too and most of America is homophobic stop trying to divide.
Correct! Black civil rights movement is NOT Gay civil rights. Those are two different things. Homosexual are not equalizing the civil rights movement that similarly occured in the past. The issue is that it is Gay civil rights pertaining to the equality that homosexuals are demanding in this present point in time.
thanks for setting it straight about the difference between gay rights and civil rights...I wish the white gays quit equating the two because it will further cause people to go against them. They also need to quit having elitest mentalities in their communities against black gays and lesbians who may not be into them sexually. Don't get it twisted because it does happen, and you cannot expect people outside the gay community to respect you when there is division.
Prof this is the same exact thing you stated on the other FOX NEWS THREAD. One would think by your coments that the biggest challenge confronting black gay people was the overwhelming pressure by there white counterparts for sex?
When will Cannick stop attacking other black 'mos for being involved in interracial relationships? Attacks like this by Cannick keeps the black gays/sgls divided. I live in district 32 congressional district: I am black and feel that cannick is a "tool"!
There's no confusion. People doesn't need to be drag out of a house to then be able to be called civil rigthts. There's no measuring tool for this. As long as laws that infringe on people's personal rights, it's civil rights.
