  • What Students say about U of T.. "There are alot of asians here"

  • Apparently the chinese girl opened her eyes.. thats a first.

  • I feel really bad for the students that go to the downtown campus. They are cheated out of a genuine university experience in terms of academic quality when they have to pay so much.

  • Before applying to the UofT, take into consideration that a large, international research university does not cater to its student body. The ultimate goal for professors is to conduct research, not educate young blossoming minds. If you can teach yourself, you should not have a problem. There are many problems with the state of education in general at all universities, however. Thus, I am sure you will find similar issues elsewhere.

  • Which one is worse Engineering Science or Electrical Engineering?

  • :S i'll be in this hell hole for 8 years (undergrad+professional)

  • so I was wondering.. my situation is this... I would be prospective international student from Latin America, but I am in an American Curriculum (College Prep) highschool.. do I need SAT to apply to it? and if would somein around 1600+ be enough? :SSs

  • @jcrlsy you don't need to take any SATs to apply for University of Toronto!

  • HICKIE obviously he lived in a town of 3,000.

  • Anybody have any info on the claim that u of t bellcurves your mark downwards?

  • @fruitpluslegumes Yes, don't go, shit GPA, I want to kill myself etc. etc.

  • @fruitpluslegumes They do, all the time. It's a well known fact. If marks aren't at a certain level, they don't get federal funding. You will find that in any major university, however.

  • @fruitpluslegumes

when they bellcurve the will usually take the highest mark and subtract that by the passing (50%) and then add that sum to your mark.

  • Can I please get an objective answer as per the claim that U of T bellcurves their marks downwards? Any pertinant input would be appreciated. thanks

  • @fruitpluslegumes I could not offer you objective proof, just merely hearsay. My courses at UofT thus far have all been bell curved. It is a well-known fact that all major universities do this in order to maintain the grade levels needed to retain their government funding. It is a fact of life.

  • Love Toronto!!!

  • sounds that there's a lot of opportunities..good for those who have great dreams!

  • U of T is is a business. They want to pump through as many students as they can. If you go there for your undergrad you will not be valued whatsoever. You will be in huge classes and have little facetime with most professors (which is important if you want to get a reference for grad school).

Go to a smaller school if you plan to go beyond the undergraduate level. You'll get better grades and have a better experience. The "cred" of U of T doesn't make a single difference when applying for jobs

  • its a great experience for people who're serious about life and those who want to stand up on their feet, they see every challenge as a step towards the future, for those who are just there to attend university, they see every thing as being brutal and hard, well i suggest you to to york then

  • u of t has been the best thing thats happened to me

  • UofT Lip Dub trailer ---> /watch?v=2n-kpFIF5N4

  • Be prepared to have your marks rounded down to maintain the C+ average. A warning to all uoft students, especially in your first year! Your marks WILL be rounded down, and there's nothing you can do about it. UofT is the only university in ontario that curves marks downwards, which will put you at a significant disadvantage when applying to law, medical, or graduate school!

  • can someone tell me any negative aspects of U of T. Just wondering

  • @khashya786786 Be prepared to have your marks rounded down to maintain the C+ average. A warning to all uoft students, especially in your first year! Your marks WILL be rounded down, and there's nothing you can do about it. UofT is the only university in ontario that curves marks downwards, which will put you at a significant disadvantage when applying to law, medical, or graduate school!

  • @angeloital19

The University has to maintain its reputation doesn't it?

  • @khashya786786 Profs don't give a crap about you--at least not in the 1st 2 years. They are most interested in their own research. That is why they standardize their courses and lower the overall level of education as well as your interest in the subject matter. Second, there is no oversight over how professors educate the student body. There are many problems with that. For instance, MC tests are not validated, and markers are not objective in the least bit.

  • uoftbbs.com recruiting campus volunteers and forum moderators

  • Hey guys, I was int he u of t life science program and I recently got accepted to medical school at Western Ontario, I admit the program was extremely hard, but just working hard made sure I got an acceptable GPA. U of T is great, the area its in is so fun, I mean its the best place to live on campus. The people who complain about how its to hard just are not able to put in the hours needed to do well. Sure the difficulty is a tad harder, but you cant receive a more pertinacious education :)

  • Okay can I have an honest opinion here?

I'm from the UK and I have the opportunity to go a college in Canada, is this one any good?

  • @KIDBIue The bell curve marks be warnerd. Other than that a lot of people consider it (and McGill) the top unis in Canada.

  • @KIDBIue. Do it. I just came back from studying at UofT. After studying in Britian you realise how much more places like UofT have to offer you

  • @KIDBIue If you want a higher quality education, find a university that is less research oriented than UofT.

  • I attend the University of Toronto and it is a fantastic school. Of course this video is biased, its promotional material, big surprise. People who are disappointed with the video's 'lack of objectivity' are delusional. Why would a school make a video that tells potential students not to attend? All the U of T students on here bashing their own school self-depreciating. There are thousands of people all over the world who dream of going to U of T. If you don't like it, go to York. Pathetic.

  • @TheWonderSock You speak of York as if it is a terrible institution set out to take-in the leftovers of society. You are the only pathetic one here. Typical entitled piece of garbage.

  • I have been a student at UofT for three years. Now, I am in Humanities so I won't say anything on Sciences but, from my own experience, UofT is the worst one I attended and this video is just plain false advertising. This video simply lacks balance of views.

  • hey any opinions about U of T mississauga, gonna be going there soon, so honest views would be appreciated

  • @sourpatch575 I go to UTSC and have no regrets! While, at times, it's competitive, people here actually take the time to help you out and you're bound to make great friends along the way. Plus, we have some amazing Psych profs (Joordens is one of my faves). UTSC is a smaller campus, so you really get to know your professors and students. Plus, it's handy when you can walk from one end of campus to another in like 5 minutes - especially in the winter.

  • @sourpatch575 Don't freak, I'm doing the same thing, but as others have said university can be good or bad no matter where you are, its up to you. If you want a great experience you have to go get it. If you're always worried about having a horrible time, that worry is going to ruin any good experience you have. Just go have fun with it, and if you really hate it, transfer schools, I know plenty of people who did that.

  • which is better UBC or U of T ?

  • I graduated from U of T and all I got was a crummy diploma.

  • @cheeriosinabowl Well, clearly you did something wrong, university should get you a degree.

  • @Killertribble

.. yes I did get a degree from U of T. Honour student at that! :))

  • Its the same as any university. I go to uoft. The courses are the same, the environment is the same, nothing much to report. Its not good or bad. I transferred from another campus. People say its harder since it has a good reputation but its bullshit. I still have a 3.5 gpa

One downside is that the buildings are far apart and walking between classes can be annoying.(I take lots of different types of courses some wont have that problem)

One good thing is it has tons of courses to select from.

  • @SRNF The rate of people getting 3.5 GPAs and up has sky-rocketed since the beginning of the 20th century. Is it because people are getting smarter, or education is being dumbed down? I vote for the latter. The larger intitutions get, as per deregulation via the federal government, the more students they enroll. It is all about the bottom line. To the university, after all, we students are considered Basic Income Units, which has downgraded our universities to shopping mall institutions.

  • @MrYaviore true

  • Yeah its hard, yeah sometimes you wish you went to an easier university but higher learning is there to challenge you, cold and hard. U of T is not like a walk through the park, it challenges you to bring out the best.

I am a U of T student and I think it's an amazing university, it makes you work hard and bring the very best out of you.

  • @jasonsz15 It is an easier university. I go to UofT as well, albeit not in the Engineering, Comp Sci, or Life Sciences department, and I find it too easy, unchallenging, and uninteresting. You are sadly mistaken if you think otherwise. If you are, however, in one of those aforementioned departments, I sincerely apologise as I am unsure as to the quality with which those profs educate.

  • @MrYaviore Lmao you go through all the trouble of using big words and punctuation, and then you spell apologize wrong.

  • @axton12 Actually, that is the non-Americanized way of spelling apologise. I was raised learning how to spell the right way. I bet you spell colour without a "u."

  • Wait, so why do some students not like U of T? Because they have to study a lot?

    Am I missing something?

  • @debra9189

Many of them who get rejected from U of T hate the place, simply for that fact. Sour grapes since they weren't accepted there. Other than that, U of T is a great university, it is big, like a city within a city. Recommended.

  • @cheeriosinabowl I go to UofT, and I do not recommend it to everyone. Granted, there are programs here at UofT that greatly surpass other educational institutions. However, that is not the be-all-end-all. Being a large research institution, UofT has its pitfalls. If you didn't notice them, I fear for your future employers.

  • You can go anywhere in the world and have a bad Uni experience, Just like you can go anywhere in the world and have an amazing University experience.

Just because you couldn't make it happen for yourself, Dont blame the University :)

    Just sayin'.

  • UofT ROCCKSSSS

  • i am considering U of T... any thoughts from anyone on the artsy side that goes there? :) or other suggestions.

  • @xMTrenchx It's actually quite competitive, but if you're willing to work, it's amazing! You have to NETWORK because if you don't know anyone, it will be hard for people to know you.

  • What a load of crap i go to u of t and i felt like they were talking about a different school

  • Best University in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ATTENTION

    u of t or ubc???

    reasons would be appreciated

who am I kidding, any input would be great

PS I am an international student

  • Too Asian. Commuter University with poor social life. Former UofT Student

  • @asandhuful Poor social life? Did you hide in your res all year?

  • @asandhuful Well said

  • ...meh. school is school. i still hate it and would had it even if i didn't go to U of T. i love being downtown, but that's about it.

  • umm...all these people tht are saying tht this is just a "advertisement"....

big whoop...nowadays thts what school is...any university you choose is because of how well theyve advertised their school...and if you choose a school and are UNsatisifed with it...then clearly its your own fault cuz you didnt do enough of your own research about it...im at UTM and i love it...its great, and i laugh at the people who are angry with their choice...cuz its their own fault

  • MCMASTERRRR REPPP

  • how much mark do student have to get in the 6 U course from secondary school to get into university of toronto?

  • @YISHENGWANG depending on program...life science is atleast 82 i think

  • @hsu63 hard yo !

  • how much mark do student have to get in the 6 U course from secondary school to get into university of toronto?

  • how much mark do student have to get in the 6 U course from secondary school to get into university of toronto?

  • @YISHENGWANG ..depends on the programme you are aplying to.

  • It should it be noted that the first number of comments were based around how great it is to live in downtown Toronto and didn't say anything about the quality of the university or undergraduate teaching at all.

  • @holaperu1000 HA! agreed...they didn't mention the part about how they'll kick your ass in first year

  • all i learned from this vid is that u of t is full of asians and indus

  • Even though I love U of T it's practically taken away my social life. And if you're a person who wants a tight-knit environment with small classes, you're really in for a big shock. I learned it the hard way.

  • Bills Meet With University of Toronto MBAs

  • For all the people saying UoT doesn't care about you getting your degree and finding a job, you simply didn't try hard enough. UoT has all the resources available, but they will not spoon feed it to you and expect you to work hard for yourself. If you can't do it, you probably shouldn't come to UoT in the first place.

  • how much mark do student have to get in the 6 U course from secondary school to apply into university of toronto? someone answear this question please, I really wants to get into university of toronto, i don't wants to go to college.

  • I might have to go to Western for dental school. This video makes me want to stay. :(

  • I can not wait until i get to to go U of T

all the benefits of Downtown Toronto and the Computer Science Facilities are awesome.

  • how hard is law/criminology undergrad program, omg looking at the comments here are scaring me :(. Now i'm debating this or york.

  • Where are people from Commerce?

  • ohhm marketing

  • I love Toronto, but I gotta say, U of T is killing me right now LOL. It can actually get really hard at times, like to the point where I want to shoot myself. But when you have free time, it's pretty awesome to explore the city and just hang out. If you want to come to U of T because of the city, think twice. Yes it can be fun, but you're paying money to get good marks and basically compete, not have fun and flunk out. So if that means being a nerd, then by all means, be a nerd.

  • i am at u of t ! :) i love it !!

  • Comment removed

  • u of t has always been my dream ever since i came to canada. after arriving canada for a few days, i went to downtown and drove by the u of t campus which was so beautiful and attractive. an excellent study environment is provided by u of t, you can find students who are studying almost everywhere. people say they have so much pressure in u of t but i think it also provides people a great field to study. i dont really care about its reputation but its environment makes it become my dream school.

  • @bonec120 your a fucking geek.

  • lol Looks like a biased commercial nothing more. Reminds me of just about any other business who tries sell me crap.

P.S I am a U of T student myself. And just as any other company you know the true image once ur in it...nuff said

  • @ikilos But thats what University's are.. no?

  • fuck this shit! YORK ALL THE WAY!!

  • LMFAO OMG THIS IS A JOKE RIGH? oh god uoft is hell.

  • Umm ok I go here and no one is this happy. Everyone studies. Like, how can I put this, umm when you go here it is very VERY easy to flunk out. You constantly have to study. My roommate agrees too. She is nodding as I type this. For instance, I can tell a U of T student apart from from a Ryerson one easily. Not only because they are unburdened by wit and intelligence but also because they don't have dark circles around their eyes and cuts on their wrists. But still U of T is awesome as Danny said

  • @Keldiven hahah i laughed......and Ryerson students kinda has more time to DEVELOP their personality...UofT students seem kinad down and inside a pressure cooker all the time

  • Does anyone knows how hard is Law school in UofT??? I need an update, I'm almost a lawyer :)

  • @franciscofco you will soon enuff wanna kill urself just as any other law student

  • @ikilos hahaha, seriously!!!

  • u of t sucks cock well only mine this is the school where i got my first BJ 14 years ago!

  • Best thing about UofT is the city itself. I love Toronto. Love it.

  • If you are an academic, you will love the UofT. If you are in it for the name and degree to land a good job, its better to go to York or Ryerson.

  • the people at this school are godawful, and the grading scheme is incredibly harsh...if you're a social human who doesn't like to study 12 hours a day and be an uptight asshole, go somewhere else...

  • @bnote1990 You could not handle it and flunked out.

  • @bnote1990

GTFO with this BS, my mark is not spectacular, but you can easily get above average if you go to lecture and pay attention, then understand the concept for 1 hour a day.

*in the sciences and you have good background of the material

  • Hey, I'm an American student sort of looking at this school. I'm hard working and probably going to be dual degreeing ( if i can) in Chem and business management. Is this a decent school for me? I more than likely have the grades to get in too.

  • @tennisgator123 U of T is a great university, but if you live in america you have way better options than we do man..

  • Comment removed

  • @tennisgator123 dude you have so much better options. At Well at U of T, hard working really doesn't mean anything if you don't have the brain when you want to achieve stellar grades. In fact you CAN NOT major in chem and business management because these two programs belong to different faculties. However you can do Chem and Economics. But be warmed, chemistry is VERY TOUGH at U of T, many don't make it through and if you don't have the brain, you will NOT receive stellar grades in chem.

  • @tennisgator123 by stellar I mean 90% +. It is possible to achieve 80%+ if you work your ass off with normal intelligence. But 90%+ you have to be a genius. That is all.

  • @BaroqueShadows we get it youve made your point. Youve not had an awesome time at U of T. but this video never says that UofT is supposed to be a walk in the park, a pretty park full of roses and butterflies. NO. That's not what UofT is. U of t is a place where you struggle and fight and give your best, then dig in deeper and give your best-est. THAT's what U of T is; yes the toil is great, but the reward is even greater. It's not fair that you spread anti-UT "propaganda" bcos MY Uoft is AWESOME

  • @BaroqueShadows No, you don't have to be a genius to get 90%+ I get A+on a regular basis and I am no genius. I just devote majority of my life to my studies.

  • I am attending community college instead of this, is bad?

  • This video isn't about what students say about U of T. This video is about what selected students say about U of T. To get a more accurate picture of what students really feel about U of T, just go on campus and get a random sample of students opinions. I assure you majority are consisted of negative ones.

  • @BaroqueShadows what are some negative things about u of t?

  • @BaroqueShadows someone sounds like york fan boy.

  • @BaroqueShadows Haha who cares. It's promotion. Who'd go about getting negative comments as a part of their advertisement? Isn't it kind of pointless arguing for the biased nature of ads?

  • @BaroqueShadows You can't just go to the campus and gather a random sample. You can, however, gather a haphazard sample, sure. A random sample requires the student lists in all the departments, in all the faculties, with their names, addresses, and phone numbers. Then, you use a list of random numbers to select your sample. 1000 students should be sufficient for this "random" sample.

  • I have seen schoolmates who are intelligent and passionate enough to become doctors only to have their grades screwed up by the U of T system. It's funny how this commercial keeps on advertising schools research capability when in fact majority of undergrads don't go into research. Take a look at schools like waterloo, 99% of their graduates stand in a much better position by having years of coop work experience. Majority of Artsci students come to U of T only to find they have wasted 26000 CN

  • @BaroqueShadows fml.

  • @havoc999998

I doubt you'd have to deal with them much. They don;t usually hang out with racist a-holes.

  • @havoc999998 Just because some Chinese students chose studying over partying does not mean Chinese students are anti-social. Please stop the sterotyping. And, comparing to students who work very little, those hard working students, I'd say are more superior academically.

  • @nicola1992619 How about living a balanced social life and excelling in academics, don't stereotype me now :P That's kind of hypocritical don't you think... Who said I party ?

  • @havoc999998 What I was trying to say is not all Chinese students are "anti-social", in fact most Chinese students are pretty active, I'm simply asking you to please stop sterotyping all Chinese students. And, I'm sorry if that offended you, but I really didnt mean to accuse you for anything, "partying" is just an example of something other than studying

  • @nicola1992619 Well I apologize for making my stereotypical accusations and I'd like to personally say sorry to you. My statement was not exactly racist but it was an inappropriate generalization which I should of not made. It was wrong for me to single out just Chinese students, I've learned to know that everyone is different and whether they are white, asian or black, their personality and work/social life ethics will differ. It all comes down to the individual person, please forgive me!

  • seems like a commercial for Toronto and not U of T, nice job not acknowledging the thousands of students at your TWO other campuses that are NOT in Toronto

  • Dreamy dreamy Toronto, what a great city and universities too ;))

  • U of T doesn't care. This video is an advertisement to get more of your money.

Forget U of T go somewhere else.

  • Yo dawg. I heard UofT likes to RAPE, so they put RAPE in their test, so you get RAPED while they RAPE!

  • @zen5678 I'm pretty sure York U is rape capital of Ontario.

  • Just putting it out there. I don't know how these students are managing to explore the city. With the amount of work that's dropped on us every term, I barely have time to do anything else.

  • One of the Vice Principals at the University of Dundee, Professor James Calderhead,is a virulent racist. I have overheard him referring to a female Chinese lecturer at this university, Dr. Janet Liao (a lecturer in energy security), a "Chink" on one occasion. If the Vice Principal is a racist, can you imagine what people below him at this university must be like.British universities are,in general, racist, but University of Dundee in Scotland is the absolute worst. DO NOT GO TO THAT NAZI UNI.

  • lol right as if they are displaying every students life... Some are struggling and UFT doesnt give a shit -_-

  • 0:12 Is this about the uni or the city. Because Ryerson, York and other Torontonian Universities could say the same thing =/

  • If everyone who went to university got what they wanted, then we would have an over-saturation of doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc.

  • @ImAllFact We do already have that. Majority of engineering students will never be engineers. Law graduates will struggle immensely as well and same goes for med students.

  • It should have been "I hear you. I also saw that UT was ...".

  • Comment removed

  • @zen5678 I hear you. U also saw that UT was trying to flunk me out but just hang in there. I love YouTube and it's too easy to take potshots at videos like this. What I wanted to say, though, was don't let those arrogant SOB's walk away from you with your degree. You're great !

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know how competitive the criminology program admissions are ?

  • lol well what most of my friends in u of t say, is that it SUCKS. I haven't been there so I don't know, but I'm just letting you guys know what some people think. I don't think you'll have a problem if you're a smart kid, so don't worry. I think any university has the same challenges, you just gotta keep yourself ahead of the game.

  • nice ad!

i should see this before I apply

  • Is this school worth going to? I need to apply soon... ><

  • @iamwalls well it depends on what Major you want to choose in the future years. I think U of T is overall a nice university, it's worth going, but try hard to not turn urself into a nerd: )

  • @May27Gemini Have you taken courses there? What's it like? I always hear that it's not worth it to go, and that the workload overwhelms you... I've applied at Queen's and Waterloo for the faculty of engineering, so far.

  • @iamwalls yeah. I c. I'm not a engineering student so I dont know much about the department of Engineering in U of T, bo be honest, the workload is OK, and I dont think life in Waterloo would be better, but anyway, it's ur choice, and Waterloo is also a great university.

    Good Luck:)

  • Amazing Video!

  • Interesting. Well if they want to hear what students think, how about hearing what alumni think. I can only speak of arts and sci, so here goes. If you want to become a world class researcher, then U of T will be your school of choice. What they don't tell you is that your chances of attaining that goal are the same as becoming a movie star, pop icon, or professional athlete (yes, it's a popularity contest). Even if you do get there, your salary will be small in comparison. You have been warned.

  • @poopoolar loool. its true the advertise the research opportunities but it the competition for such spots are ridiculous. soo if anything u have the opportunity to be taught by top people in there fields which is pretty motivating. but all in all if u plan to do grad school go to york.

  • i love the university so much brings back so many memories

  • This video is somewhat unrealistic or overly optimistic. What would the video look like if it featured the students who didn't make it ? A professor I had in first year physics summed it up nicely when he said "I hope that not all of you are going to be physicists !" at a lecture I once attended. There is room for only so many researchers. Think carefully about your career options.

  • Uot has a nice gym. good for work out and recreation

  • UofT is the largest university in canada, and it's famous for its vast research diversity and networks...

however, drop-out and "cut-off" rates for first-year undergrad students in UofT can go high as 70% compared to other Canadian universities.

I go to York University and I admire its business and law programs there...

  • F*CK U OF T , WATERLOO IS THE BEST SCHOOL IN CANADA MOFO'S

  • @juggie19 and this is why waterloo is not one of the best schools in canada.

  • u of t sucks.

  • If you're ambitious, willing to work hard for your grades, and in return be exposed to some of the leading ideas and researchers in the world, come to U of T. It opens so many doors, and it can get overwhelming, but you'll learn to deal with it and make the most of it. If you're just looking for a place to crash for a few years and want to get your bachelor's and get the hell out, this isn't the school for you. There's no place I'd rather be than U of T.

  • @F0restMoon In response to your comment about ``better, cheaper, and aesthetically pleasing places to eat`` yes, I agree, but the reality of many students is not choice. U of T is in denial about the reality of student life. This is reflected in the number of students who don`t finish their degree or transfer to college where ultimately there is less debt and a job awaits.
