Excellent instructor..he just needs to do some cardio and loose the guy.. he is always sounding winded! It would be a shame to loose such a valuable treasure if he gets some health problems due to not being in shape.. The problem with many masters in martial arts is they are soo good, they dont' need to be in condition, so they seem to forget about their cardiovascualar system and diet.
=) in WC there no prolonged match...if u don't win in 3 to 4 seconds...it is considered a loss.
btw I do those kicks on one legs or rooster stance.after a lil practice, you will be able to do all those kicks with the same leg while mantaining your balance.
there is no reason to setup or touch the ground after a while.
Chi Gurk/one leg stance is very good for learning shadow kicks.
I luv this DVD ! To quote Sifu Lam in the Dvd:"It's not that Wing Chun got no kicking. When use the hands, fight already over, no chance to show the kicking!" That's just CLASSIC, Sifu !! LMAO!!!
That's the thing about boxing, too much retracting motions and they're only striking and no sticking. Covering their heads to block will only protect them for so long and that's all they'll be able to do. If they let out their offense, they give up their defense. Wing Chun's offense IS, at the same time, defense.
this is where the difference comes in between street fighting and distance fighting. boxers usually (not always) fight from a distance, throwing jabs to check you before trying to create openings.
Jin Young explains this in one of his videos when comparing fighting in the street vs the ring. Pretty good explanation btw of how to use sticking hands against such a situation.
i would love to see someone of lam's pedigree in UFC. I heard that he went undefeated in underground hong kong NHB fights using wing chun. pretty inpressive. plus just shows u dont have to be fit to fight.
ha ha ha, he wouldn't last 30 secs against an average mma fighter..as Bruce Lee said: "if you want to Really fight then you must condition every part of your body" like a boxer and have the stamina of a boxer...this fatboy-fat would be outta breath in 10 secs in a real fight...wc=water closet=shit
Sifu Lam actually recongnizes this, he says if he was gonna go in for a predetermined fight he will have to condition himself. Even back in the days in the NHB era in hk he was conditioned
Ridiculous comment. According to your theory every boxing trainer should be as fit as their fighters even though they are thirty or forty years older than them. Do you think if Bruce had lived to his fifties and was out of shape that he could no longer train anyone. In his day Sifu Lam was in great shape and fought many times, he was also trained by the same man who taught Bruce Lee, Grandmaster Wong Shun Leung.
Wong Shun Leung was Bruce's Sihing and Ip Man was their Sifu. It is well documented that WSL was responsible for a lot of Bruce's early training and later, they would train together whenever he returned from the USA.
In most traditional schools, the grandmaster rarely instructs the students himself. Most of the instruction is from the senior students and instructors under him. Most of Bruce Lee's training came from Wong Shun Leung and William Cheung. Technically, my sifu is grandmaster Sunny Tang, but I've only been taught by him a handful of times.
UFC is a sport to promote beer and gambling, the rules are completely against striking, no back of the head, and the matt is bouncy causing a powerloss in strikes starting from at least 60%.
Like dude, why are you comparing a combat system meant to protect one to live and to kill if necessary for self preservation, with a modern day "product" in the words of Dana White meant only to sell beer and promote online sports betting?
Are you even awake? that's the dumbest thing I've heard all day.
I meant to say a combat system that has survived more than 400 years, longer than America has been around, and ordinary people don't dedicate their lives to something and pass it on unless it is effective.
UFC is a tv show. Stop watching the idiot box boob tube and get out there and start living.
It is truly pathetic that you have to boost your sense of significance by piling up this sort of vile verbal attack on a total stranger, all with the safety of anonymity. I feel sorry for you.
Go find a job, read a book, make some friends, and most importantly, get a life.
I've practiced many martial arts but not WC; in my city there is not any wing chun school. I make many searches on the web and see many videos and if I'd choose a sifu, Gary Lam it's my first choice. I think that man is a very precious master. At second place Michael Louison. Wong Shun Leung lineage however.
@theawakener7 he said he has old videos in hk. He is a 3 time champ there.

The bo heason would show it, strong... fas. In the fighting... we kick this and then we kick this and then we kick this and then we kick this.

@RavenFlex No doubt Lee was under the later grandmaster Yip Man but it was Wong Shun Leung that trained Bruce Lee.

Just a totally random thought... will wing chun be useful in UFC?

dongbaii, go tell that to Gary:P.
Kicks are useless against good fighters. However kicks in combination with hand techniques and superb positioning is key. Good demo... as always.
