Hi! Great video, beautiful neighborhood! I have a question, all my herbs are in containers, I really would like to put them in a garden like yours, I was wondering if the soil that you were using was purchased, or did you just dig in that spot and use what was already there??
@sexykat426 Hi! Thanks for your comment! We dug out the grass in an oval shape and then bought bags of top soil to put on top. We just planted herb plants and put mulch over the top of the exposed soil. We have never had to weed or water, just harvest the herbs!
@bettyskitchen Betty, I have enjoyed your channel. I had a question about your herb garden...how did you manage to keep the bugs away? I had an herb garden this past summer and the bugs ate more of the herbs than I did. I didn't want to spray with pesticide. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@keifersmith I guess we were just lucky! We did not water or spray; we had some plants that did not survive, but no problems with bugs. We did have a little trouble with rabbits at the beginning of the growing season. I hope next year will be better for your herb garden!
HI betty: ) I just found this resturant by me that have 4 Chefs& each chef has a Sou Chef helping. It's a nice resturant we are going to.What is SO GOOD about this place is that behind their resturt.they grow ALL their own Organic vegtables then pick them & use all their home grown veggies and their grown herbs in their dishes.Cool huh?The menu changes daily as to what the Chef wants2 make that day.You get salad, soup, appitizer, dinner&dessert! It's about $60.00 or more a plate but isn't that cool?
@bettyskitchen Oh it's so cool. I've never seen anything like this resturant. All there veggies and herbs growing are so pretty. There all line up so pretty and maintained so well. You can tell they take pride in their work. It's really something to see and eat = ) I love the way the Chef's menu changes everyday. So if you don't like whats on the menu you just go another day & if there is a chef you really like - then you can eat there when he or she's cooking that day. Very, very cool!
@Thetis101 Thanks for your nice comment! Actually, with the roofing going on in the background, my video did not capture the serenity that we usually enjoy here.
@Monicasdestiny I definitely will be removing the mint and planting it in a pot in the ground away from the herb garden! Thanks for the lovely comment and the reminder!
@jenniexpark It's a nice neighborhood, but typical of this area of Kentucky. The best thing is that I have cows over my back fence, yet I live within about 5 minutes of anything I need--doctor, dentist, hospital, shopping, grocery store, restaurants, post office, library, hair salon, library, and, of course, the university! Thanks for your comment!
@MrPersonalOpinion We have room for more, but are just tending to our favorites. We like to go to the farmer's market for vegetables during summer. Thanks for your lovely comment!
Love it. I read a comment about mint spreading and taking over your garden. FYI this is true and once it has taken over it's extremely hard to remove. I've seen people that put it in a small pot in the ground if you want to blend it into your garden. That way the roots don't have access to the dirt outside the pot!!
@TYOrder1 I know that is true, because I have had it take over a rock garden at my previous house. I just stuck it into the herb garden temporarily. I plan to remove it and plant it in a pot in the ground in the back of the house, not near any other plants and try to keep it under control. Thanks for the reminder, though!
nice garden, wish i could get mine in, glad i havent gotten to it yet, we are getting snow tonight... yup may 8th, and we are getting snow.( Minnesota) .. thanks for shareing
@DLP1962 I thought I was a little late in getting mine planted--I had no idea it snowed so late in Minnesota! I wish you luck with the weather in getting your garden planted!
@pinkaliciouss08 I think herbs repel most animals, but I don't know what was so appealing about my hot pepper plants to whatever animal ate them (rabbits, I think!). I can't believe your basil plant got eaten by ants and slugs!
Love this video Betty! I'm just starting to plant flowers. Planted around two trees and now it's supposed to get cold Saturday night! Ack! May have to cover them up. Love your herb garden. I've got some Sweet 100 tomato plants ready to plant. Nothing better than a homegrown tomato! You look beautiful as always Betty and your home and neighborhood are gorgeous! Looks so peaceful there. Much love to you and your family!
@usafireandrescue Hi Amy! I hope your flowers make it through the night! Thanks for your nice comment about my herb garden. Yes, homegrown tomatoes are just the best! I hope yours do well; I'm just doing 1 cherry tomato and 1 other tomato plant. Last year's cherry tomato plant produced hundreds of tomatoes--more than Rick and I could use!
Your Mint will spread, spread, spread. Mine has tried to take over everything. It takes alot of work to keep it where it should be. Nice garden Betty!
If you use a charcoal grill, it's an excellent source of free potash. A very light sprinkling every 10 days or so around your pepper and tomato plants will do wonders for them.
You are cute as a button in that baseball cap. Sorry... Well, you are!
i never had cilantro until i moved to the usa. i love the taste. it makes everything so fresh and bright. i also grow several differnt types of mint it all smells so good when it is trimmed. you have a great garden betty and im sure you use them ALL the time. when the cilantro grows, maybe i can talk you into a recipe using cilantro?
Absolutely gorgeous flower bed.I had no idea one could plant directly from the peat pot!! I can't tell you how many times i've broken apart my tomatoes etc by trying to pry them from them..thanks for the tip!!
That's a very nice garden you have, it's totally what I'd like to have later in life. Right now I only have a few sprouting giant sunflowers in my front and back yard, and some wild onions growing naturally.
I wish for the day when an herb garden can include a marijuana plant!
wow betty what a gorgious place u have...pretty,pretty...thanks for taking us shopping and planting with u now take some of those herbs and go cook lol :)
I bought some nice hebs at LOWS. They have nice plants. My thai basil plant is doing great. I looked for kafeer plant, but they didn't have it. Do you have any idea where I can find it?
Nice video Betty! Just curious, are the herb and veggie plants that you bought at Lowe's from Bonnie's Plants? I bought a couple tomato palnts from them last week and they are doing awesome!
@Smartass8504 You will enjoy having a garden. When we lived at our previous house, we had 5 acres of land. We lived there for 17 years and grew a large (about 1/4 acre) garden every year. I canned and froze all sorts of vegetables and fruits. Now we're down to a few herbs and a couple of tomato and pepper plants! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Your gardens are so beautiful! The flowers were lovely! I want a herb garden too but i live in an apartment and we have no balcony, so i can't really grow anything! but it does look awfully fun! Great Job!
@happy002 Thanks for your sweet comment! I wish you could have a garden; I know you would enjoy it! I hope you will have the opportunity to grow your own vegetables and herbs someday!
@SleepIsMagic hahahah That's how it is in a lot of areas in the South. Nothing but space! : )

You can buy Sacks Of Very Good Typr of soil..
And we should not water the leaves[but the soil] in the morning or afternoon.
We should water the soil instead , If we dont the plants will burn and die.
