  • ¡¡Que chimba de música!!!

  • I wish unto the heavens I had been born during this era. My voice is so suited to the songs and their manner of singing. Now? With those such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, etc...I feel no one would want to really hear this sweet and sultry style of expression. Way back machine..take me!

  • @EmpressNightshade If you find the way could you take me with you?

  • Time and time again I said Id leave you

Time and time again I went away

But then would come the time when I would need you

And once again these words I had to say

I'm a fool to want you.

But right or wrong I cant get along

    ...Without you.

So sad that a singer like this had died in that way!!!

  • Why isn't there music like this anymore... I mean there is similar music to this nowadays, but it never gets the recognition it deserves...

At least we have this time in music to hold on to when all else fails to surpass.

    José Rocha

    Bahia/Brasil

  • Amy Winehouse was like a modern day Billie Holiday. Talented, raw, troubled, and a very incredible voice. They both were tragic...but so wonderful.

  • @seishsmom I have to agree, it's too bad we didn't get to have a few more years of Amy though.

  • @seishsmom amy was indeed super talented and its a shame that we have so little from her

  • @seishsmom What total bollocks! Billie Holiday came from nothing with a voice that cannot be matched even today, Amy Winehouse was a middle class buffoon with a mediocre voice and little talent. end of story...

  • Comment removed

  • @incasilver - I disagree. Winehouse was not comparable to Billy Holliday, but she had a pretty amazing voice and used it well.

  • @seishsmom so terribly tragic

  • @seishsmom Oh my Lord, you compare Winehouse to Billie Holiday?! I don't want to live on this planet anymore

  • there were tears in her eyes because she finally heard how her voice had changed, how she was losing her talent.

  • Billie is singing about her heroin addiction.

  • @armand372100: i agree with you, sinatra's version is the best ever rendition of this song, you can feel the tears in his voice ... billie holliday's version is good but shouldn't be compared to sinatra, it doesn't move me as sinatra's version does ...

  • I've always admired Ms. holiday. I'm glad I was curious enough to seek out her music and have enjoyed it for over 25 yrs now.

  • I certainly respect your opinion and also love Billie Holliday. As you know, Sinatra loved and respected her for the great artist she was and in some ways emulated her singing. Music is a very personal thing and for me, Sinatra in his rendition of this song evokes a poignancy that to me, is unsurpassed.

  • @armand372100 I am posting this because you posted the pretty much same comment twice. why so obsessed with Sinatra's version being the best. I heard this song for the first time today paying my full attention to the song. and so far I liked the Holiday's verstion most. and I guess this is just a matter of taste. why have to ruin the good air over so unimportant thing? I guess it will be much more productive for youself and nice for the people here if you go onto Sinatra's

  • @shimotsumanominamo Some Sinatra fans tend to be very insecure, trolling clips of other singers who've recorded the same songs as he. For someone to claim that his is "better" than Billie's, especially, is ridiculous, especially considering that he learned his phrasing, the best part of his talent, from Billie.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 Your absolutely right about that! Frank, before he met Billie was a huge fan. They later became lovers for a brief time. His valet, George stated in his memoirs that the only time he ever saw Frank cry was when Billie and JFK died. He was REALLY torn up when she passed. Frank was also one of the last people to visit her in the hospital before she passed. Billie called him :Frankie". They were very close.

  • "I'm a fool to want you" page and post your comment there.

  • Her voice was sad, sensual, sexy,so beautiful..........I love her.......her songs are for love making and heartache too. She's amazing.

  • Oh my god! I love her voice!

  • Great Lady but with all due respect, Sinatra's 1951 recording is the best version ever done. His heart is broken over Ava and it is reflected in the song. He bends the word need and when he sings the word pity, you can feel his pain. Simply put, he was the best ever.

  • @armand372100

With all due respect to Sinatra, Billie far surpasses him in this recording. Sinatra's heart may have been broken over Ava, but Billie transcends the song and transforms it into a universal lament.

  • achingly beautiful!

  • As always, a hearbreaking stunner. she lives, forever.

  • the Amy Winehouse avant la lettre

  • @trekhoend Amy Winehouse was a student of Jazz and a Huge fan of Billie Holiday.

  • looking at her bio made me respect her that much more she's been through alot of battles called life and is telling us her war stories.I always loved Patti,Jill, and Erykuh but the stories in her voice and you could hear the wear and tear the drugs had on her voice but it still came out like satin

  • thank god no-one disliked this song!! I'm 15 years old and this is one of my favourite songs!! :) <3

  • @thelazyperson13 and you also have a great taste in music. keep it up.

  • goose bumps

  • this video has no dislikes amazing

  • chanel 5

  • You can hear the love, the regret, the aching bitter-sweetness of her life in this song. Gives me goosebumps.

  • I love her,I love her voice, her soul, everything!

  • But i'm not a fool to love YOU, Billie,soooo much !

    You're the best baby, forever.

  • OOOH MY!! this woman was awesome I mean is soooo awesome!! this is exactly my sentiment right now!!! what fools we are when we are in love!!! DAMN IT!!!

  • @TheGirlishone Me 2 :)

  • @TheGirlishone Me 2!! i watched the commercial and i knew i had to find info on this beautiful song. :)

  • @TheGirlishone .Just like me

  • my favorite song

  • thats like a song that beats any legend nowdays! long live lady day... you can make me cry anytime you wanna,.

  • not to be mean or anything but I say i like Chet Baker's version of this song a bit better. This is lovely, but Bakers trumpet is so nice compliments the song perfectly... check it out before u kill me :D

  • When I was in grade school I would leave the room when Lady in Satin was put on the Stereo. It just scared the shit outta me. It had the chill of a morgue I imagined. Today its a different experience to listen to this particular song, The artistry and the raw truth of this longing to be loved. Her voice was gone but this one works at a very high level of storytelling. Awesome. Stirring. Oddly healing.

  • many women of today should listen to her songs......

  • @r59691 Many men, too.

  • @r59691 ya, stop listening to Kesha

  • Thanks Sis, I can understand why your mum loves this..xxxx

  • What a good tune!

  • Judy Garland and Billie Holiday were the two greatest female vocal artists of the 20th century.

  • @loulou2lou and boheme...absolutely right. neither of them ever sang a note they didn't mean or feel to the very core. It resonates, very lacking now-a-days.

  • @loulou2lou I saw Judy Garland on tv before she died. I think around Christmas of 1969 she came to Lowell Massachusetts to see her one time manager for the holidays. I am from Lowell, Mass. Well any way when she was on tv she came out and was drunk. I had tears in my eyes seeing her this way. My heart was broken to see her trying to keep her composure while singing the song she was singing. I will not judge her, because I did not walk in her shoes.

  • I agree MyGaby27...Billie Holiday and Judy Garland both had voices with such sadness contained within them...truly unique and beautiful.

  • I saw long time ago a documental about her life, someone said ¨I have always feel sorry for the people that listen to her and can´t feel the pain and sorrow in her voice!!!¨,......that is such a big truth,..... I don´t think any other singer would be able to sing with this sadness , and make it sound so beautifull!!!!!

  • one off recording that will never be repeated, after only a few bar's of her voice i can feel the tear's starting to come and i bet i'm not the only one.

  • @MyGaby27 um there wa one...edith piaf was alot likeher.

  • @donthurtmeimaturtle

    That is true!

  • @MyGaby27 um there was one...edith piaf was alot likeher.
