The camera I use is the Sony DCR-HD90 Handycam. It's nearly two years old now so I'm certain Sony has improved on the tech somewhat. What set it apart two years ago (and the reason I bought it) was it's ability to do "smooth interval recording". This is where the camera caches 6 frames and writes them as a block onto the tap. A highly recommended unit if you're into timelapse.
