I gave them both a try and felt way better with the Deluxe one. I couldn't resist having a dual humbucker telecaster and I didn't like the shape of the neck on the Custom. The Thinline one is quite cool too, and it's a short scale! ...I know, different vibes, different feelings. The Custom is nice but is not for me.
My husband tried your technique with a coin and still cannot get that sound..it basically sounded exactly like a coin on a string and he didn't get that clean sound that you do. Any other suggestions or tips that are not listed in the sidebar? He tried everything you suggest in the sidebar.
first of all by "rubbed coin" I meant "ruGGed coin" (just corrected it in the sidebar). Try scratching the coin perpendicularly to the string as much as you can, not "along" it, just like you would do with a cello. Once you get the right sound work on the tone by adding all the effects, choosing the right pickup and such.
My only suggestion on the tone would be to set the volume know on the guitar to the maximum and, if you're mixing your guit with the actual song, lower the volume on the mixer. That's because you might want a background fully saturated sound.
Hope it helped, maybe you could post a video of your husband playing, maybe exaggerating his right hand movements.
Perfect.

Nice playing.
I play with the Custom version, I'm more of a fan of that, just wondering what your thoughts were on the Custom vs Deluxe battle.

@chefcheryl911 remember to rub the coins ridges along the string and best results happen with reverb
