When this actually happened there were not just 300 spartans but also troops from other cities together they made a force of about 7000 thousand men but on the third day when the persians were at the road up top the spartans said that the rest had to leave and they stayed and died also two great battles in greek history are the one at Salamis(naval battle between greece and Persia) and at Battle of Plataea (13000 spartans were there at that battle)
