I just saw HIM live in LA this past Thursday and Ville sounds great live so I don't know why the band would ever resort to using playback. And yes, he does look lovely.
I think once he said something about having to do it, if they wanted to be in the show. Like at Top of the Pops... I seem to remember reading somewhere that they went there to make their music known also to people who usually don't listen to it... you know, playback was the only way to do it. I guess the bands that usually go to TotP aren't nearly as good when they play live. But we all know HIM are ;) (nice name, by the way...In the Nightside of Eden, love that song!)
...before we accuse, let it be known that I have been in the audiance where HIM played a few songs live, but on TV they put it to the playback music. Dunno why.
