This is actually a really nice "owed" to Steve Martin - you never realize how much someone has actually contributed so many laughs to your life... until watching something like this. I forgot about that King Tut skit he did or whatever and "All of Me" he was genius in that scene where Lily Thomlin was supposed to be controlling part of his body -- awesome. And of course Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is simply one of my favorite films/ and comedic films period! Thanks for posting!
Thank you for a wonderful compilation! And I think the music suits perfectly. Although I had a steady diet of Steve from my early teens onward, his superb and graceful physical comedy really struck me with "Roxanne." I never, ever tire of him (although I always thought "Father of the Bride" was unworthy of his talents).
I love the ones from The Jerk - "Be somebody!" [doesn't he look like a young Harrison Ford in that scene? :)] and getting his name in the phonebook. lolz.
sorry... im new to this, i'll try to comment on things i know about, i was ignoring the video and just adding comment's. i'll try to educate myself with more shaun martin movies from here on in. =)
"painlesssuicide" was quoting a line from Three Amigos then "b1234joking" slams him, duh.
Stay in school kids, don't be the idiot that never gets the joke due to lack of knowledge. I remember at a party someone told a joke with reference to John Wilkes Booth, and a guy goes "who"?
Others may obsess about a "Date with Drew". I'd take a "Lunch with Steve" any day. A thousand questions for the man. If I had a brother I'd want him to be Steve.
You know what moment I consider Steve Martin's classiest and sweetest and would like to see again? His opening monologue on SNL right after Gilda Radner died.
Great stuff! Nobody moves quite like Steve Martin. A Question: Does anyone know what the incidental music used in Roxanne is during CD's week of letter writing? It sounds too good to be anything less than Mozart, but I've never been able to find out what it is.
It IS Mozart. The faster piece that plays while he goes all over town to mail each letter is the 3rd movement from his Divertimento , K136. The other one before that is probably from one of his string quartets
Steve Martin is GENIUS!!! His est stff is classic and there is so much of it. I've been trying to find the clip of him as the evil kitten juggler in The Jerk and of course, when he hurts his foot kicking 'Iron Balls' McKensie in the gonads.
I love the way Steve Martin moves because he's a superb comic actor and his body language is part of it. But it needs context not music to fully appreciate it. When I first saw All of Me I momentarily BELIEVED he was two people fighting for control of his body! And what's the victory dance in Parenthood without knowing the reason he's doing it? I'd love to see all this again with the sound back in!
But hey, thanks anyway - it's a great compilation!
I'm glad I stumbled on this. I've always loved Martin, but actors who do their craft as effortlessly (seemingly, anyway) as he does kind of create an illusion that it's all no big deal. You like them, you pay to see them, but you don't think about why. This little montage shows you exactly what's great about him, or at least the visual side of what's great about him. It also proves conclusively that Steve Martin would've been a star in the silent film era. Not many modern starscan say that.
@3:10 was impressive! Whole thing is great though! Thanks!

Never was much impressed with this guy as a comedian. (Opinions vary). As a person, a class act.

In Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Martin achieves facial expressions so demented that one wonders how someone could display them and retain one's humanity.
