@wiesen246 Not really, I would say every decade brings to us, great classics. The 70's was the weird time between the end of classical Hollywood and before the birth of modern cinema. Their are great films from the 50's,60;s 80's 90's and even the 200's. The 70's gave us the actors and directors we so love today.
@sociallogie Not even close, the 70s is considered the golden age of cinema by most famous directors who are well aware of american cinema history. Fledgling young directors were given almost complete freedom in the 70s. There is a good reason why over 100 film remakes are from the 70s. It's difficult today to make a film that doesn't remind you of a film from the 70s. You left out the 20s, 30s, and 40s.
for a long time I thought that "evil dead" was a 70s film, I geuss it just had that 70s flavor to it, oh well. I still wish it was from the 70s so I could say the 70s had all my favorite movies.
OMG the Deer Hunter... probably the best or one of from the 70. So many great ones. Where is Serpico or the Warriors on here? Clock Work Orange was great.
@Kubrickfan27 It's often been referred to as the golden age of movies by most movie critics.
The decade that gave us a Clock Work Orange, Patton, Monty Python's Holy Grail, The Exorcist, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein , Johnny Got his Gun, Dirty Harry, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Star Wars, The Deer Hunter, and Alien. - Amazing.
@Kubrickfan27 Yeah. Godfather, Cuckoo's Nest, Barry Lyndon, Star Wars, Annie Hall, Apocalypse Now, Network, Taxi Driver, The Exorcist, Chinatown. It was amazing.
I kinda feel that way about the Victorian period. Wouldn't want to get sick there. I know it'd Dog Day Afternoon by the Elton John song as im typing here lol
@catycatcat4 The 70s was the best. We had so much freedom. In the 70s, everybody always seemed to be smiling and joking. Nobody took things too seriously. Every year had a new fad like the pet rock. Back then, we didn't worry about abductions, school shootings, terrorist acts, etc.
It was great to see new things introduced such as home video games, the personal computer, hand-held games, vcr, instant polaroid cameras, video disc players, 8-track, Mr. Coffee, etc.
my old cousin (45yrs) told me about the 80s n 70s movies , songs , cars , styles , night life , sports , love or romance , brands , humours , schools or studies , food dishes and everything , to me 70s n 80s r the best decades ever , I WISH I WAS BORN IN 80S OR 70S not on 12 - 31 - 1989 :(
Well in order to have enjoyed it the best you should have been born around 63-67 at the end of the baby boomer gen. Because then you would have been in highschool during the late 70s early 80s
AMOREENA from Dog Day Afternoon, is IMO, one of the best uses of music in cinema in the 70s, mos def the best decade for films, never see Dog Day Afternoon kind of film in a cinema no days.
@labloomfie The 70s was the decade of many firsts: The first digital arcade games, home video consoles, first instant color camera, first VCR, first Video Disc Player, first modern email sent, first cell phones, first MRI, first CAT scan, first hand held games, space shuttle test flight, first 747 flight, first CGI in a movie.
The influenence of the films of the 70's films is with us today. From the Slasher movies like Saw & Hostel to your typical big budget summer blockbusters, eg Transformers 2. Quentin Tarantino's has made a career referencing this decade.
@yodasteveo Yes, movies like Torso and Black Christmas. When i saw Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses i thought it was an original concept until i saw a trailer of a horror movie from the early 70s.
the guy who hasn't seen A Clockwork Orange is so lucky, he won't believe that a picture of a few men in weird costumes will turn out hopefully to be one of the greatest film he will ever see. Enjoy
I don't think that's Saturday Night Fever, I watched the film a couple weeks ago and I really don't remember that part. Besides, John looks older than he does in S.N.F. Thanks for answering my, I appreciate it.
My favorites would have to be 1. The Godfather 2. A Clockwork Orange (awesome) 3. Dog Day Afternoon 4. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 5. Taxi Driver 6. American Graffiti 7. The Conversation 8. Apocalypse Now 9. Straw Dogs 10. Star Wars
@LongIslandBird It's difficult to narrow it to 3 when there so many great movies to choose from. Fun movies would be Star Wars, Bad News Bears, and Young Frankenstein.
While serious drama would probably be The GodFather or The Deer Hunter
Another great video - I would have liked to have seen Rocky, They Shoot Horses Don't They, and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, as well. Don't forget all the great female actresses of the 70s!
@mybirthday0104 I also think it was the golden age of Directors like Spielberg, Coppola, Scorcesi, Ridley, Lucas, Carpenter, and Hooper. I'm sure there are other directors that i cant recall right now.
I got those but these two that keep haunting me are the one with the two women while hands pull handkerchiefs off their faces. The hands have black fingernail polish, so I thought it might be Phantom of the Paradise, but I haven't seen that. The other one that gets me is the one in the dark bedroom where there's some kind of statue and a person writhing in front of it. If anyone can deduce that from my vague recollection it would make my week!
i love how it shows the clockwork orange droogs right as he says "punks are running wild in the street"

Best romance ever made: Annie Hall
Best comedy ever made: Holy Grail
Best horror ever made: Exorcist
Best sci fi: star wars
best movie ever made: Godfather
brickbusterful 1 year ago
@brickbusterful Don't forget there were lots of fun movies too like the Pink Panther movies and Bad News Bears In Breaking Training.
I believe there have been approximately 88 movie remakes from the 70s. There are probably more i'm not even aware of.
A Great scifi horror film is Alien 1979.
Sometimes i will see a movie from a particular genre and think wow thats original only to find it was first done in the 70s.

I'm a huge film buff and many of those I didn't know either, but here's what I got:
0:53 - "The Last Picture Show"
1:05 - "THX 1138"
1:15 - looks like "Blow Out" (1981)
1:23 - "Paper Moon"
If anyone else knows the others I'd love to hear it too.
