It's the same reason why black people suffer the stigma of being looked at as violent thugged out gang bangers. The media doesnt specifically say black people are such, but the way they are portrayed and have been portrayed early on sets the foundation for such a stigma. Same thing with southern whites who are looked upon as simple minded, inbred, animal molesting yokels.
