  • You should really do some more comparison video's of other transformers. This one was great !

  • Thanks for this video! I had to settle for the Hasbro DVD version, which I'm not thrilled about, but I know third party companies make replacement heads and smoke stacks that I may look into. I think the talking stand is just a joke, that doesn't even sound like Prime, it sounds like an un-mechanized version of Iron Hide. I also wish the Hasbro version came with the cardboard trailer. I know there are actual trailers you can buy, but they're as expensive as Prime himself, which is lame.

  • takara is the best

  • i just bought him finally so ciked

  • As much as I love Optimus Prime, I come back to this video just for the soothing voice that mellows me out. Now I'm ready to go to bed.

  • I suppose the Hasbro one is great for several reasons; first being if you can't get your hands on the Takara one then the Hasbro version is a good option. If you are feeling brave you can redeco the toy (Hasbro) yourself or hand it over to someone with some skill, to either customise it or update it's colour scheme. Let's not forget that with the Hasbro one you can play with it and not worry about breaking it as much, considering the Takara one costs way more.

  • your voice puts me to sleep, sooo calmmmmm....

  • I noticed...My 20th hasbro has a mix of the two it seems. Blue reflective eyes, orange painted running lights, dark red body, set in reflectors on the "toes/tail lights" and no yellow cheeks, but plastic painted stacks, hydrolics, and drums. and matte blue legs.

  • I prefer Takara those pieces are great and are not to be played with. !^_^!

  • on the 20th anniversary i see that the optimus prime's antenna's are short... unlike the masterpiece. Are they short or did they just fold the antenna's behind the head

  • @GOTDATAZNBOI they just fold down the antennae thats all :)

  • @GOTDATAZNBOI theyve just folded the antennae down :)

  • Great video. I just picked up the dvd prime and I am very pleased. The takara masterpiece one is sweet, but for the price that everyone wants, no toy is worth that much, just for a little metal and some different paint. I got the dvd prime for a great price and it is a great figure. Nice review.

  • There is on thing you forgot to mention which was the difference in length of Prime's ear things. Other than that, great video.

  • @yt1904 acctually they are bent back (part of the transformation)

  • @MiniWizardStudios My bad. I can see them now, bent back. {{facepalm}}

  • i want one but i dont want to pay alot of money under 100 $

  • just paint the 20th anniversary if you only have that

im going to when i get mine in a few weeks

  • speak a bit louder man!

  • When I was younger, this one kid had a all white optimus prime. Does anyone if it's rare or not?

  • that was ultra magnus he showed u..its the same as optimus prime but all white an it comes with the battle suit that makes him ultra magnus

  • @RLX67 not really the battle suit makes him ultra magnus.. the battle suit makes him city commander ultra magnus. an i think ultra magnus is primes bro. I THINK. not soo sure

  • I really want the Takara one with the trailer.

  • i want that so bad

  • Hey is there anything diffent about the MP-01 Optimus Prime & the MP-04 Optimus Prime? Like I know that the MP-04 comes with an trailer but Ii'm talking about Optimus Prime himself?

  • The wrist communicators have different pictures but that is it.

  • Hi there, Is the Hasbro version made of METAL or Plastic??? Let me know, I just bought 4 versions of these Hasbro Optimus...One dirty, one clean as the one you have in the box and another boxed in Trailer mode...all off ebay in one entire auction! But let me know if the Dvd Hasbro version is Metal and exactly how much did the Hasbro originally go for in stores??

  • This was a really great video unfortunitly I watched It too late needless to say I now have two Primes

  • and arent the spikes one the takara prime's head bigger?

i noticed that, but im not sure, i dont have either

  • My bad... I made one mistake that I've noticed. The Fucksticks at Hasbro didn't include the long smokestacks on any of the models.... gay... but other than that, everything else is pretty great... I probably would buy the Takara one anyday and find a black gun... (THERE STILL WERE/ARE 3 OR MORE VERSIONS)..........(so suck it)

  • fag? look - not counting the different coloured gun variations or Mp-04 with trailer, there are ONLY 3 versions of this mould. that is the 2 that are in this video and the hasbro 20th anniversary one with battle damage and short stacks. why dont you tell me a link to what other version there is if your're so sure. i would be happy to see this hasbro version that u say is EXACTLY the same as this takara version sans long smokestacks. show me and ill believe u

  • yes, and there are DIFFERENT VARIATIONS of the 3 Hasbro models. I have the black gun Prime but he doesn't have battle scorching. THERE WERE 3 HASBRO VERSIONS THAT I KNOW OF FOR SURE (however obviously there were more variations because mine doesn't EXACTLY match ANY of the Hasbro OR Takara's), I'm not going to waste my time doing research YOU should be doing. Look it up, You'd learn something.

  • why should anyone prove that something doesnt exist. you should be proving that something does exist fuck face. post up a video and we'll all believe you. simple

just admit that you bought a fake prime muhaha

  • fuck you're a loser lol

first u say that ur not wrong then u admit here that you are wrong yet still have the nerve to say 'suck it'.? u prick stfu

    the other guy pwnd u

  • GTFO out of my YouTube you white-bred chicken shit motherfucking white honkey nigger. You have no clue what the fuck you're talking about, I'm still not wrong about the main argument you fat sack a shit. Go fuck a horse. *Block Communications*.

  • Arguing over toys... Hahaha!

  • lol own3d

  • tourist- were any great men born in your country.

tour guide im afraid not.Only babbies are born in my country to fg dabbie'

  • NO NO NO NO NO. you are looking at two different Versions of Prime alltogether! Hasbro made a version of the 20th Anniversary Prime that looks EXACTLY like that Takara one you have there. Both Takara and Hasbro made 3 versions: Black gun (the absolute best, which is what I own), grey gun (the Takara you have. Not as 'prime'-like due to the grey gun) and the blue gun (complete shittiest model they made.)

  • ur wrong, hasbro have never made a version that looks exactly like the takara one in this video. the only other version is the one with battle damage and short stacks.

  • No, I'm NOT wrong. Do your research and don't be an idiot. I've learned that they even had MORE THAN 3 versions. I've seen all 3 versions for one thing, fag, but another thing is that mine isn't even exactly like any of the 3 models meaning they probably have more... However, mine came with a black gun... which is how people distinguish them.

  • the only ones that you can get are:

    1. Takara Mp-01 grey gun (in this vid)

    2. Takara Mp-01 black gun

    3. hasbro 20th DVD version blue gun (in this vid)

    4. hasbro 20th anniversary black gun

    5. hasbro 20th anniversary grey gun

    6. mp-04 with trailer (same prime as mp-01 i believe only came with grey gun but not sure)

however as someone said there are only 3 different versions of the actual prime figure alone if you dont count all the different gun colour or w/trailer variations

  • Great video review. Answers many questions and helps you decide on what to buy. Good job!

  • in my opinion this is the best optimus, till they get the new one to be metallic.

  • if u had lots o money ud get takara version

  • HOW TO GET??? I WANT IT!!!!!!

  • get a job, make some money. then go on ebay and buy it

  • wow thanks alot man this really helped me choose which one to get! takara masterpiece ftw!

  • whats ftw?

  • I think the 20th anniversary prime is better because it is more simplistic and costs less money.

  • so which is better lol jk

  • actuallyt not a silly uqestion. they are both very good and the DVD version is great value for money. the takara version costs so much more but is more collectible .

  • The original US release wasn't as bad as the DVD version used in this video. It was the one with the battle damage. It had the short smokestacks, but the paint colors were about the same as the MP, the gun was black, and the battle damage helped make the plastic parts look less like plastic.

  • nice vid, by the way on the MP the ears are longer than the DVD version

  • no they aren't

  • yeah they are

  • no they aren't. u blind?

    watch?v=cFprbJzYm40&feature=related

  • why must america have all this cheap chinese shit?

  • i am pretty sure most takara toys are also made in China including MP-01

  • you know, if it wasn't for china, you probably wouldn't have any figures at all.

  • listen, if we hadn't even asked china we'd probably be making these. but some of america's top CEO's are just fat and lazy.

  • isn't that like $300

  • we americans have such cheap crap made in china

  • is there any way to tighten up the window sections on his chest? as mine seem a bit loose and swing open a lot

  • i'm from England and bought my MP4 thru amazon, even though it has its problems(legs not retracting, missing some chrome from one of the gas tanks),it is an amazing figure,i'm thinking of taking the legs apart and seeing if i can shorten the tab on the inside of the gas tank which holds the leg in place, then maybe it might unclip easier.I have already taken the legs off my DVD version to see how they work, and didnt have too much trouble re-attaching them, and i'm just gonna repaint the gas tanks

  • then join my england relationn club!

  • Yeah, I'm from western australia, my mp4 was also missing front left headlight, was purchased at target for $200(Aus).

  • missing headlights, thats really bad, surely you can take it back to target and get a refund or replacement

  • I've got MP4 Prime. I had trouble with the right leg sliding up aswell. I found the gas tank has to be pressed slowly to unhook the and allow the leg to be shortened. U may have to repeatedly pressed the tank to try and dislodge the mechanism and allow sliding action.

  • i would guess that you bought an MP4 from target. r u from australia? the late mp4 batch that aussies got were riddled with QC problems. missing lights, chipped paint, crooked windows and jammed legs as in your case.

  • Comment removed

  • i have both of these and i cannot shorten his left leg on either of them no matter how hard i press the gas tank, also the right leg does not lock into place on both of them meaning,i have trouble standing them up,i can accept it on the cheap dvd version, but when i spent £200 on the mMP4 version it annoys me quite a lot

  • i have a hasbro one thats preatty identical to the takara

  • I'll send you some pics if you want. Mine is exactly like the takara except smaller stacks and a black gun. I was wrong about the pepsi one, I was thinking of something else.

  • Finally, the one with the base and the dvd. To me it seems like the line was made more and more cheaply as time went on. Mine was one of the first ones to be released. Makes me wish I hadn't taken it out of the box. :(

  • There were several different 20th anniversary optimus primes. There was the first set, exclusively at Toysrus to begin with. That is exactly the same as the Takara version with chrome parts and everything except the smokestacks are short and the gun is Black. Not blue or gray. Imo,it's the best american one. Next was a slightly cheaper version that's blast mark on the stomach was much less detailed andbody was a lighter red. There was also a Pepsi version about this time.

  • sorry but i dont think you are right. There have only been 3 version's of this prime. 2 of these are in this video. The other version is the hasbro 20th anniversary prime with blast marks and short stacks which comes in grey and then later black guns. I have never heard of any pepsi version or any other american version that does not have blast marks.

  • @chuculba make that 4 the one with the non cardboard trailer

  • @7prowl

well theres still only 3...the prime figure with the trailer is exactly the same as the masterpiece one. it just comes with a trailer. hes only talking about the prime figure itself, which there are only 3 of, not counting trailers, or gun colours.

  • @darockk oohh

  • @chuculba There was a pepsi version, the trailer is a giant pepsi bottle on wheels that still turns into a battle station. Optimu himself is red and white with blue stripes.

  • @SS8677 Yeah I have the Toys r us version and yes everything is chrome with short smokestacks . never seen a pepsi one though .

  • @superzapper Yea the Pepsi one that they speak of is in existence but it is not a MASTERPIECE. Just a remake version of the original in pepsi colors with a fake 20oz bottle on the flat bed trailer.. I have it in my collection

  • buy dvd the other one cost a shit load

  • nice call man this guy forgot the number one difference, PRICE!!

  • cool i want to order masterpiece prime butb i havent the mony so i buy 20th aniversary one on amazon

  • im thinking about byeing one but i dont know wich one i should get. im 12 so its probily going to be for playing with it. wich one should i get

  • get the 20th anniversary one (on the left in video) becasue its alot cheaper and if you break it its no big deal.

  • Get the Takara version when you're older.

  • get the hasbro version if your scared you might chip some paint get the masterpeice if you know u wont chip some paint or break any parts. :D

  • NOTE : whenever u are trying to get ANY transformer figures (whether it is G1 or masterpieces or Movie or anything)...try get the Takara version 1st...why?

I noticed that Takara really put a lot effort to their toys to make Transformers as valuable as possible...

On the other hand, hasbro usually could care less on paintjobs...sometimes they repainted it from Takara ones, thus causing it look cheap and does not resemble the show/movie at all....stupid hasbro...

  • man, u are right, hasbro 1 really sucks compare to takara tomy...

  • yah...i noticed the difference after doin some "research" Hasbro vs Takara's movie/ masterpiece/classics/Cybertron line..

Takara focuses more on "show accurate" designs/paintjobs while Hasbro simply make a toy and sell it (E.g: Takara movie Ironhide is a whole lot movie accurate than premium/regular hasbro movie ironhide!! u can google for pics online!)

Seriously, Takara versions may cost more, but they seriously worth every penny if u are true collector...

    Honestly, try get Takara ones

  • "All we need is a litte donation...and a lot of love"

  • Indeed! lol

  • the original 20th anniversary prime has battle damage the mp01 takara is the best version with the dvd prime being the worst of the three

  • Why Is He The Worst?

  • i hope to get the takara version soon.

  • you know they are making a 25th anniversery prime it is gonna be awesome it is coming out in teh universe series of toys i am sooo getting that for christmas

  • yeah but its just yet another G1 prime...how many times do they have to re-issue that?!

  • i'm glad they are this time i need this guy and it comes with the trailer it would be hard to find a better deal

  • Isnt the Takara Masterpiece Prime like 300 dollars?

  • depends where you find him I found one for $100 but you just have to kinda search to find a good price

  • The "DVD" version is supposed to look more "cartoon correct" but instead it just looks cheaper. The original US Masterpiece Prime looks more like the Takara MP1 except for the absolutely ridiculous short exhaust stacks and the better black rifle instead of the grey one.

  • i got one from G1 80, 82 a real one !!!

this stuff isnt the real shit at all

the real shit is from HASBRO!!

  • actually before the transformers even became the transformers they were a takara toy line of transforming robots called diaclone, prime was then called battle convoy (wich is why the japanese still call him convoy plus its easier to pronunce for them) wich featured the exact same mold that hasbro used for the "original g1 80's prime toy" so actually takara is "the real shit"...PS not trying to pick a fight

  • Even though Hasbro popularized & distributed the toys in the west, i still think of them as a Takara product..

The Diaclone & Microman toylines were the great pieces of engineering at the time & still are..

Takara also seems to care a lot more about the legacy of Transformers with it's high quality reissues & superior quality in general..

The first wave (84-85) of toys to me IS Transformers, after that Increased Hasbro involvement just seemed to cheapen the idea with more & more gimmicks..

  • I absolutely agree

  • I didn't realize that many differences. Glad I gotten the Takara one.

  • Takara is better

  • if its not your optimus then whos is it

  • Great review... Going to find and buy the Takara one for sure now. Is this the MP-01 takara version? Is the MP-04 the same thing except with the trailer? thanks.

  • the only thing i am mad about is the hasbro guys should make the ears bigger.

  • but they are the same size as masterpiece i thought? in the hasbro pictures, the idiot who transformed him for the shoot didnt fold the ears up!

  • the only reason why his gun is blue is because its painted like a real gun

  • what do you mean by this? the gun is like 5cm long, what does it matter if it is painted real or not.

  • it says on the back of the box

  • what exactly does it say? please tell us

  • Your voice is so relaxing, I like to put this on loop and it seriously calms me right down. Sorry if that sounds weird but its great, thanks!

  • I'm glad I found this video as I couldn't tell the difference between the two due to the fact that I don't own either figure so this has been quite helpful.

  • your voice is cool!

  • What is the difference between MP-01 and MP-04 by Takara? I was thinking about purchasing the MP-04 Optimus Prime + Trailer but is it as good as the one on the video?

  • Both Prime figures in mp-01 and mp-04 are exactly the same, except you get a trailer included in mp-04, that's why it costs more.

  • well it cost $200 dollars more for the trailer so i would buy MP-01

  • Its pretty cool that takara remakes the transformers, robotech, and voltron action figures! They are done very well with plenty of detail! It would be great if they made a masterpeice exo suit with a daniel or spike figure or hot rod(especially hot rod lol.).The masterpeice prime is pretty cool!this makes me wanna start a collection.thanx for posting this !!

  • yeah hot rod masterpiece would be cool, good idea they could include spike with his suit just like from the movie. rumour has it that grimlock is the next masterpiece though.

  • Remake???i'm sorry but cmiiw,as far as I know...transformers,robotech(a.k.a macross)and voltron are originated from japan!!!thats why the Japanese ones are better....

  • is the 20th ann. made of plastic

  • nope, same amount of diecast as the takara

  • wow. US version (hasblow) is really crappy compared to takara's version.

  • who wants to buy pretty much the same figure for $500 instead of $70?

  • i want the takara version or at least the 20th anniversary version (not the dvd version)

  • I got the first 20th anni prime(not the dvd one) by hasbro and he has all the crome parts and he is red

  • Yeah, there's more than one American version. The first is almost identical to Takara's version, but with some faded dark "battle damage" marks in paint around his arms, the smokestacks are short, and the head isn't mettalic (but the legs still are). But it has the red, chrome parts, gray gun, orange lights... much closer to the original.

I could've sworn I saw pictures of an old Takara one with a black gun as well, but I may be mistaken on that.

  • u got what i wanna know,thx a lot~ =)

  • cheers...what was it?

  • differences btwn these 2 toys.cos i've seen 3version of it. 20th anniversary, Takara, and a pirated version, but nvr get to compare them as i don't own any of them.

  • kian morrison likes this video

and i actually do as well

  • take out lets play with it. stop all the detail and transform it.

  • theres only about 50 videos on you tube about people transforming this. go look at one of those instead

  • Alright don't get mad. I'm just jelouse I want it.

  • C'mon guys. Its obvious that both cater to different markets. The takara version is very detailed and they took time to chrome he parts. BUT u pay premium price for it. Also i believe they make it in limited numbers.

U can't say hasbro is garbage just because its not chromed. Its time consuming and expensive process.

Did anyone noticed both are same dimensions?

  • I totaly agree, I bought the 20th Anniversary because I dont feel like paying $300 for pretty much the same toy

  • why is hasbro always so damn cheap with the materials they use

  • ive just got the Megatron MP-5 i think ill get all the Takara ones apart from Starscream, Hasbro has actually done a better job on that one which makes a change.

  • do u know if traylor fits on 20th prime

  • once again

    takara pwns hasbro

  • hasbro pwns takara on their satrscream though. in looks and price

  • i'm wondering, is there any difference in the size of the dvd ed. o.p and the takara m.p o.p? cause a saw a m.p trailer on a dvd o.p truck, and somehow, they don't look good together... more like they don't fit well. the trailer looks big on the dvd ver o.p. i bought the dvd ver. cause i can't afford the m.p o.p. which i would've love to have. but now, i'm planning to get the trailer and i'm a bit confused. lil' help please. some insights would be very helpful. thanks a lot.

  • nah dude, they are both the same size. there are 2 trailers you can get. One is the official one that comes in MP-04 and another is the unofficial one from another company, sold separate. I think the unoffical one is a little bit bigger but check up on this. apparently the unofficial one is better functionally., and much cheaper.

  • oh, that's a bit dissapointing. they should've just made the two trailers equal in size at least. the one's in the mp-04 has the base in it, while the other one has none. i saw a video of the separate convoy and it looks more like an empty shell, neither it can stand alone. but still looked good on a dvd ed. op. thanks dude!

  • rallygsr, pls describe more on unofficial trailer. How much is the selling price? I hope they release unofficial Optimus Prime Masterpiece as well. Takara has stop production temporarily causing remaining stocks to soar over US$300....eeek

  • I dont own any trailers, this is the info i have gathered from numerous TF websites. The trailer is all over ebay for around $50-$60US, much cheaper than buying the MP-04 set, especially if you already bought MP-01 when it first came out.

i doubt anyone would be making an unoffical prime any time soon.

If you dont want to spend $300 for MP-01, just get the DVD version, they are pretty much the same. The differences stated in this video are minor. they just have slight colour differences.

  • Salamat po, rallygsr pok, i've just checked most TF websites. All sold out. Left only local stores at my plc selling it like jewel. US version too have ceased production n what left in US r just leftovers. They don't export those. Thanks anyway :)

  • Jayraptor! Pare,

gusto mo bang bumili ng Master piece Op? i have a friend selling it for PhP6,900. Im here in Cebu and only 2 left.

i also bought the unofficial trailer, but its an exact replica of the MP04, except that it cant open and it has no roller.

check out my channel. i made a video review of it.

ANYWay, going back to Master Piece OP, just send me a message if you're interested. i can tell my friend who owns the hobby store to reserve it for you.

  • RyanUybengkee, thanks for ur help. Sorry, i've already placed an order at local shop for MP-04 yesterday afternoon. Selling it for US$290 for the new batch. Salamat po.

  • no problem dude.

just trying to help around. God bless and enjoy!

  • I mean for the masterpiece takara version.

  • its plastic on the masterpiece

  • If you know, then tell me this. Is the ball for the head metal or plastic?

  • Has anyone who owns DVD version noticed that with the included instructions: it appears that the background scene at the top that Prime is standing in front of eerily looks AA LOT like the wreckage of the twin towers on 9/11?

Also the matrix doesn't light up when I push the botton. Does this mean I have to replace the batteries already? Anyone else have that problem right out of the box?

  • That button is a little strange to use in the beginning.

You have to push the blue button near (not the one -on- the head) Prime's head back and down at the same time. It may seem a little difficult to do at first, but it's actually quite easy.

  • which is better the takara masterpiece or the 20th anniversary?

  • doughboy, definitely takara masterpiece. More ingredients, metal piece, metallic, more realistic coloring, crome & paints with no child safety standard to obey. Nice. I'm going to get it but it comes with a price, much more expensive, noooo

  • awesome bots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The main difference in terms of heads is the blue color of the 2006 DVD version of Prime is lighter, there are yellow highlights similar to the original Hasbro test prototype, and his blue eyes aren't metallic like the Takara Convoy and Hasbro 1st edition 20th anniversary Prime.

  • Another question, are there any dfferences between the heads of Optimus between the three? Also read my other questions beneath pls. ;)

    Thanks for the video :p

  • i covered the head differences in the video
