No, it doesn't have much to do with the first two parts. It's a prequel. Mostly about their ancestors who happen to share the same names and look just like the modern-day Ginger and Brigitte. It takes place in the 19th century.

As for Brigitte in the second movie, we never really saw her die. But I won't say what happened.
