But there are cases of hate crimes, like the assault of a man because of his faith or sexual orientation, or bombings of public health clinics because of abortion. In the Southern part of the U.S. there are some places where I can't get a job or get public services because of the fact that I'm atheist.
I am yet to hear of anything about an atheist attacking a Muslim or Christian physically because of their faith though.

I think of spitting in the face of religion as not as a negative thing, it's like questioning the rules of old laws.. some just don't work and some are outdated and need to be ridiculed in order to be replaced. Atheists just don't want to be apart of it, and don't like faith to be pushed on them, that is why some are aggressive towards religion. Religious dogmatist to the same and spit on Atheism because they don't like it.
I am with ya, I hate all forms of fundamentalism too.

I'm not talking about whether atheists who resort to insults are being silly. Perhaps they are; however, even if they just resort to insults they are still harmless. They are not passing laws to kill theists, like Christians in Uganda are to kill gays or Muslims in most Muslim-majority countries discriminating against religious minorities.
