  • my mother in law shift better!

  • Is it normal for the shifter to rattle that much? The thing is jumping around like crazy.

  • why does he jump off the rev limiter so much? Is there something wrong with the engine stopping it from revving higher?

  • good luck with your limited cognitive abilities!

  • also due to your ignorance of physics and your prejudice you'll never know what refinement in favor of physics priciples can do for performance. i know that your idea of a race car is a nascar so what i'm saying will be way over your mental capacity but it's all i can do

  • you can't even make a valid or coherent point. that makes you the idiot.

  • ДА всё ещё ни чего ,(не смотря на точто он второй раз в жизни на механике ездит), кокого ху... он на прямой в 2 км ехал на 4 скорости, очковал? или бот тупой, моя бабуля на славуте его парвёт! :)

  • He didn't even get out of fourth on the straight..WTF is that

  • Will be fun to see some real pros drive the new GT2 RS around the track! ;)

  • Looks like an american tractor on the nice Nürburgring.

  • @Knatterfuchs which beats the pants off of any of the mopeds and go-carts which pass for German sports cars. Envy sucks, right? I wouldn't know.

  • pretty crazy how that mis-shift can cause some serious lap time difference

  • I wonder how much faster he would of been with out the miss shift and if they raised the rev limiter.

  • shit that was 1 lap? tracks HUGE

  • doesnt the radical sr8 hold the fastest time, i thought it was street legal also

  • According to Motor Trend magazine, the engineers think that this car can do sub-7:20 lap times.

  • i had a go kart session on the nordchleife. took a long time to get around

  • As long as the guys who are complaining aren't driving a faster lap time at the ring than Tom Coronell: Shut the "%!$§ UP!

  • you can see how he "could" be faster but 10/10 for balls he had his foot planted when it mattered.

  • Why does this viper only have 4 gears? Did they change the gearbox or what happens?

  • It actually his 6 gears. 6th gear can't be used while racing because it's too tall of a gear only meant for cruising and getting an astonishing mpg rating for an engine it's size. The ACR's top speed is about 170mph, and 4th gear tops out at 164mph. With all the downforce at that speed, he'll actually lose time shifting from 4th into 5th on the straight

  • OK, that makes sense ;) Thank you for the explanation :)

  • I'm not saying this guy is a bad one, but I bet with a better driver, that time could have 4 seconds knocked off of it. I also bet that if the Viper had a better driver AND better rear gearing, it could probably have at least 6 seconds shaved off that time.

  • I say he is an amateur! His gear shifting is crap because he he scared to take his hands off the wheel!!

  • have you ever driven a Viper? Have you ever drove Nordchleife?

  • Yes I have driven the ring, every year in a M5 (E28) And these guys in the muscle cars are nothing but road hogs. The guy is scared of the car, believe me!!

  • of course, bud he ain't a amateur..he's just scared...and who wouldn't be? in a viper? everybody would be carreful with it but not scared...

  • it's not a muscle car..

  • Well it´s Tom Coronell who is driving. Top Wtcc driver.

Of course one can always improve bit surely he did just that from his previous lap

  • fuckin a bro redline much!!? and he ran a 7:22 with redlining and a mishift damnnnn

  • wow he need to learn how to shift. it could b faster thn 7:22 if he actually shifted every once in a while

  • Maybe the viper should have a better gearbox and proper gearing LOL

  • it's a street legal car. u can't just install racing geargbox in a street car

  • TAKE THAT chevy/european cars

  • When they say lap record, they're referring to production cars only.

  • @bigjonnyjon calling the Radical SR8 a "production car" is a laugh.

  • Apocatlysis id like to see you do one lap of that circuit in that thing let alone beat his time so STFU and stop posting stupid comments its an awesome car your just jealous

  • guy in the ZR1 slided and this guy miss shifts i'd say it really comes down to the driver between the two

  • i wish i was in the passenger seat of this car, i dont think id be able to do that track, atleast not at his speeds lol, but yeah nice car.

  • he sure likes that rev limiter

  • I told you already NOW ONCE MORE! It´s official. Fastest Car Nürburgring 7.22,1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that battle roar cannot be ignored, don't watch this video until you put &fmt=18 at the end of the url!

  • Well, first off, I'm not going to say I've owned a Viper, that I've driven a Viper, or that I've even ridden in one. However, you would get more credit Andrew if you actually typed like an adult instead of an 8-year-old. As well, I'm going to say you're wrong. He's shit at driving?! He set the world record for a production car. The reason he didn't shift was because he would've had to shift RIGHT back down, costing him time.

  • I believe the Radical SR8 beat it, and it is a production race car and is cheaper than this terrible excuse of a race car, sports car or TANK with wheels, whatever you want to call it!! NASCAR mentality, i predict will fade when people realize how long they've been duped!!!!

  • Why exactly are you saying we've been "duped"? That makes zero sense whatsoever. The ACR has run faster than any production car, OFFICIALLY speaking. As well, the SR8 is really not intended for street use. We also have no clue whether the SR8 was on slicks, etc etc.

Sure, a pushrod engine is outdated and requires much more volume to run hard, but in this case it works damn well. And a Viper's not a "tank" on wheels... It weighs 3408 lbs, the GT-R weighs 3814 lbs. Uhm, who's the tank now?

  • @doczooker it's a tank because it's a few seconds off a race car when going around the track? haha. Man you envious idiots are SO pathetic. SR8? who would in their right mind ever want to drive that thing anywhere except on the race track? How many have they sold? The Viper is a real production car. I have one and its my daily driver and works beautifully. I've put 70,000 miles on it, too. F'ing awesome car and I love its robust build. Unlike those Euro cars with swizzle stick gear shifters.

  • That track looks difficult!

  • you are an idiot. you have never owned a viper. nobody on youtube thinks you're cool because you can lie about having owned a viper. /yourlife. kthanxbai

  • Como corta encendido el tio, jaja asi me gusta!!!

  • Yeah, GT 5 is going great.

  • it's Tom Coronel. he knows how to drive. You want proof? he just set the Nurburgring lap record in a street legal car!

  • @ssrMarcel well, he set the nurburgring lap record FOR a street legal car, in a street legal car. still miles off of the current configuration's record of 6'11"

  • @ssrMarcel the lap record was for street legal cars dumbass

  • IM impressed, how bout a WOOT WOOT for MOPAR BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AMERICAN AUTO RULES

  • this guy cant drive. Im a vette fan, and i think the time could have been lower had he made good shifts and geared up on the stretch. Might not have been no faster but i think he was a bit scared

  • That was his first time ever driving a viper, and he beat your beloved ZR1 corvette. And dont make any excuses for the ZR1, youll just make it sound pathetic. Like the nissan fan boys talking shit. You could not do even close to that, you wouldnt even make 8 min 40 secs in that car. The green monster is the hardest track in the world to drive consistently on. And btw yeah he can hes a touring car champion. Hes a fucking pro, quit thinking your special cuz your not.

  • Didn't the ZR1 make its run like, 1 or 2 months ago? Hmmm. Has anyone factored in weather? 2 months ago in Germany is like, peak "summer time" with humidity. Early September time frame, or whenever this video hit the street I am sure the air is much more cooler. I am no "expert" but I would bet that if the ZR1 and the Viper ran the same day, within 1 minute of one another (considering they are finishing within 5 seconds of each other) same tires etc so there is a more decisive "WINNER".

  • The Lap doesn't 'start' till approx 0.15.

  • The car is still rolling at 7:50 because they didn't STOP right when they finished the race, you dumbass! And look at ANY video of a Nordschleife start - they all start at a full sprint. I forget the actual point at which they start clocking the lap, but they run for several seconds and hit a pretty good sprint before they start timing. That's just how it's done.

Think before you type, thanks. Tis better to have kept your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

  • mopar's back on top baby

  • If they had wanted to make this thing really fly, they would have changed the gear ratios so he wasn't always hitting the rev limiter, and done something with that shitty gear box linkage, he missed a couple of shifts out right, and didn't make a few shifts he should have before hitting the limiter. I think there was at least another 1 or 1.5 seconds left out in the forest. However, that being said, this thing moves.

  • Imo the shifter on the 08 is the best shifter of the four generations, short of a fluke- that was him, and not the result of a shitty gear box linkage.

  • it's a production street legal car. dhey could not change gearbox ratio to stay in production class limits.

  • GODDAMNIT AT 2:14 and 6:39 he fucked up the gear change instead of 4 he put it in 2...that's another 1 second probably and he slipped a couple of times but i guess that's to be expected since we're talkin about the drunk monster viper hahaha he did an awesome job overall though...

ONE THING how come on the straight away he only went up to gear 4 ... does the ACR only have 4 gears???? Does anyone know???

  • its a 6 speed, and it does have as much straight line speed as the stock viper because of the massive aero features

  • shit i wonder why though he kept it on 4th gear on the straight part...afraid it might fly in the air??? lolz

  • I think he redlines it on purpose, it prolly makes hillclimbing better, and saves time when hes coming up for corners becuase he doesnt need to upshift then downshift again.

  • I agree.

  • A full second from mis shifting? Thats overly hopeful. 6 gears however, 520 whp.

  • actaully 545 whp confirmed by hennessey.

  • RPMS: 3....4....5...6....7.....DINGDINGDINGDING OMG PLEASE SHIFT ME OMFG OMFG

    Rev limiter much? lol

  • great!!!!!!

  • Mopar or NO CAR!!

  • Id like to see the new nissan-GTR with the same amount of horsepower in it as this 20gallon american"muscle" motor has. I think that the new laprecord would go close to 7min flat.

  • thats totally not true...the ZR1 has even more horsepower, and can only get 7'26, most of the speed in this car comes from its aerodynamics and downforce around sweeping corners...so a gtr with 600 hp would not necessarily go faster

  • Too bad no such thing exists huh, and the viper and ZR1 still reigns supreme over the wifemobile called GT-R

  • wow eventually its not gonna be the fastest car in the world anymore...its gonna be about which car can get around the Nurburgring the fastest. And its gonna be an American civil war. I can see it now. Every1s gonna be like "Holy crap Americans can corner better than we us, and we cant do anything about it!" Oh yeah n damn guy THE GEARSHIFTER'S THERE FOR A REASON!!! THAT REV LIMITER MUST HAVE A RESTRAIING ORDER AGAINST U AFTER THAT RUN. But damn dodge did us good.

  • thing is by the time he shifts from 2nd to 3rd, he'll be in the braking zone...he'll actually lose pace going 2nd to 3rd to 2nd right away I believe that's the driver's intention. He can probably knock a couple seconds off just with a slightly taller 2nd gear to match the slow section of Nurburgring.

  • every1 says the 2nd gear was too short, but it was good enough to beat the Corvette and trounce the GTR, but thats why cars are adjustable.

  • when you said "cars are adjustable", what are you refering to?

  • im talking about tuning. Certain engines can be modified to the driver's liking.

  • Holy rev-limiter batman! Shift man, shift!!! Not bad, though, considering the fact that the driver only had like a couple of hours worth of seat time in the ACR. Once the guy gets used to it, you could see track times drop way under 7:20.

  • Agreed. Not to mention, slipping out of gears twice. All in all, it's really impressive. At least to me it is. Just another reason I want one.

  • The thing about it was, if you watched, he only really hit the rev-limiter right before he would otherwise downshift for turns. While I will definitely agree he wasn't as good as he could have been (he had several shitty shifts and slipped several, as monkeys said) but a lot of times he would have upshifted only to downshift again a few seconds later. That would've hurt his time and his control of the vehicle. Most times when he redlines it he's hit the beginning of the braking zone.

  • wow, the rev limiter ended up in Austria by time he was in the pits hahaha. Good job for a tuned production car. What do you think will happen if a separate tunning company takes the ZR1, the GTR or even worst one of the expensive exotics with an incredible chassis and give it more power!? This time is good, but it was just to prove that ACR did a good job and that the driver exploited the gears, you can't compare this time to another production car's time.

  • why cant you compare this to another production car's time? its just a viper srt10 with a bit more downforce and some reduced weight...dodge manufactures a lot of these, so why wouldn't it be considered a production car?

  • Actually very different from a stock SRT-10. ACR uses the aftermarket fully adjustable KW coilovers. Being able to tweek suspension on a fly makes a world of difference in time attack, especially for the bumpy Nurburgring. It uses Pilot Cup tires, these are pratically Dry surface only slicks, brand new at only 6/10 depth. The Michellin PS2 on the ZR1 cannot compare. Plus the downforce (1000lbs@150mph, it's alot more than just a tweaked SRT10.

  • ACR vs GTR...Weight: 3400lbs vs 3800lbs. Tires: 295/345 Slick vs 225/285 Street tires. Tires are the easiest thing to make cornering fast, beating a full interior GTR by 7 seconds on a 7+ min track, with Pilot Cup tires, 400lbs and 120hp advantage is not impressive, considering ACR is much more purposeful than GTR and ZR1. Beating ZR1 by only 3 seconds is definitely not something to be proud of (cup tires + downforce is too big of an advantage)

  • tire size, tire compound, downforces (big wings, spliters, dive planes), suspension stiffness...directly contribue to lap times, but will sacrifice streetability. Dodge made it clear ACR is a track day car by putting Pilot Cup tires on. R&T article "Evil Twin", ACR beat stock SRT-10 by almost 3 seconds...on a 1:30 track. ACR is brutal, impressive, angry, but ZR1 and GTR shouldn't be compared to it.

  • Im just happy that the one of the very last vipers dodge will make beat the much hyped ZR1. A corvette for over 100k HAHAHA, dodge did a real good job with this car, motor trend also said that with the gear ratios changed to suit the track better it would have run under 7:20s, which is very impressive. Also please stop trying to make the vipers victory look shallow. Its not dodges fault chevy and nissans cars dont have enough stuff to run with this car.

  • one of the very last vipers??? dude go check out FastLaneDaily's interview with the head of GM on the detroit auto show and head of GM said it's a bullshit story...he laughed at Derick and said you must be crazy to think we're gonna cancel such an iconic car

  • Thats GOOD NEWS. Thank you for clarifying this was my fav car as a kid (i loved snakes, then i saw this car called the viper in the very first need for speed game and i was hooked), and its still one of my favs now. Dodge and SRT should be very proud of this car.

  • and what GM head can tell u about Chrysler's Viper ?

  • i wish the viper had higher redline more than 7000 RPM and 4 valve per celinder

  • watch the begginning, do shifters ussually move like that on high hp cars

  • no but i love that about the viper

  • It's because he's hitting the rev limiter

  • he messed up the shifts twice T.T

  • wow, clearly, there was room for imporvment, but dam, that looks pretty scary to do, hahaha

  • This driver could have easily ended up in the teens had he not been riding the rev limiter on so many occassions. The fact that the Viper beat the snot out of the ZR1 despite the Vette's weight and 38 HP advantage shows that Chrysler would be absolutely nuts to take Viper out of production. This is easily the greatest American sports car producted in the last 30 years and the only other American sports car worthy to run up against the almighty Vette. Keep it around Chrysler...keep it around!!

  • i agree completely, but word is that chrysler is going to sell the viper model to someone else. this could be good or bad, it could ruin the viper, but it could keep it alive for longer than 2011. I also like how the shifter shakes when you are supposed to shift haha. that was a good driver, knew what he was doing

  • car worthy to run up against the almighty vette ???? what are u fucken carzy man lol viper is the best

  • Being the very proud owner of a 2001 Viper Acr and having owned 2 previous Corvettes, including a 2002 Z06, I would like to say that I'm absolutely not surprised that Dodge built the better track car. For years the Viper has been given a bad rep for being trackworthy even though it was very successful in LeMans for years. I will say that the Viper is definitely less refined and a true driver's car. It is heavily reliant on pure driver's skill to display its potential on the track.

  • he seems to be stuck in between gear alot during the slower sections, bounced the life out of the rev limiter in 2nd gear

  • viper didn't go out to beat the GTR. They went out to beat the ZR1. Its the vette viper soap opra thats been going on ever since the Viper was introduced. Dodge makes a street legal track car from the factory. good for them!

  • matko boska O_o

  • Anxiously waiting for the GTR boys to start crying and picking it apart.

  • Per Road and Track's own "Ultimate Track Test", ACR comes with it's own mechanic that adjust suspension setting for these events. It runs Pilot Cup tires. Pls keep in mind, ZR1 ran Nur on bone stock setup, with street PS2 tires. Just trying to keep things objective here.

GTR already made wonders, lowest Hp, highest weight among the 3 cars mentioned, street tires...it's even suppose to be in the same stratosphere, yet it is.

  • correction: "it's NOT even suppose to be in the same stratosphere, yet it is."

  • actually I heard the GTR used semislick tires when it ran.

  • No it's the Potenza RE070A summer tires. That's the "stickier" tires that some magazines are referring to. Since you can also pick Dunlop ALL SEASON tire as an option. Check out the other tests by AutoCar, Road and Track, Top Gear UK...there is no lie.
