This isnt very gavotta like. Its a nice pleasent video and everything with good clean playing, but it should be more rhythmical and 'up beat'. Villa-Lobos doesnt suit this gentle almost girly style of playing.
@pengeaumont270508 in fact, Villa-Lobos doesnt suit with the entire 'Suite Popular Brasileira' at all. The truth is that it isn't even a suite (as said by himself), it's just a collection of five pieces he came up someday...and he's playing this marvellous piece pretty well (I think this is the most beautiful piece of the suite)
Yeah i wasn't criticising the piece. Personally i think the etudes are far better, but this is nice. The playing is pleasent too, it's just a bit pedestrian i think.
Das ist grandious!! Villa- Lobos ist nicht einfach zu spielen. Aber hier sieht man eine großartige und tolle Leistung, danke. Das gefällt mir sehr, sehr gut.
@superpioupiou that's right, and in my opinion (as a player) the most 'difficult' one (in fact, all of them are...pretty easy if you have good skills)
good rendition... but the treble strings sound like metal strings.... perhaps too much use of nail... good... but i cant over how this sounds so metallic... should be rounder on the treble side.... warmer...
Didn't the maestro use metal strings himself like Barrios did? Wonder if they were of a different sort than those popular today. I can't imagine they would've used such high tension strings on a fan-braced instrument.
SilentSonance is right - there's a LOT you can do with this piece. Villa-Lobos was such an expressive writer, and I love playing this one myself. This is a sweet version, but, for effect, you can also sustain the notes on the bass strings - this lends a far more dramatic flavour to the piece.
in 4:27-4:30, could you show me how to play the two harm ? I have the sheet music but don't seem to know how to play it(which fret to touch). It is a very odd harm.
This is the best version on youtube. All the rest of these guys really aren't putting anything into this piece other than just the notes. Theres so much you can do it. Yours it the only one that made me feel. Good job. A few bum notes here and there but overall great job.
@SilentSonance Being able to play with this grace is so much more important than hitting every note. It's a shame that value's been lost in modern music.
The guy looks like Cillian Murphy.

Maybe is too slow; a Gavota is a dance, not necessarily to fast but for exaple listen the Assad version.

The technics doesn't suffice, but execution very musical. Musicality of it execution is better than at Julian Bream.
