does anyone know why he isnt steping into the punch with foot infront ? ive herd a couple of boxing instructers say that if you dont step into the punch as you throw if your not geting your weight into the punch .
Hey I have long legs and a short upper body starting from my waist, is that physique gonna be a problem if I want to box? anybody know, thanks in advance
@7duece0 unless you got T-Rex arms you good. What this video doesn't really go into is stance. Stance is extremely important in boxing, karate, or any other form of martial arts. Bend the knees a little and move quickly and believe me those long legs will come in handy
Thanks for the tips!! I started boxing a few years ago but after having my son just didnt have time, I forgot the basics of it, thanks heaps for this! I just got a boxing bag put up so I am eager to get back into it and eventually join classes again! thanks :D
Indeed, the funniest part about "posting" in this kind of videos is reading people who might have taken three boxing lessons in their lives criticising how an ex-pro boxer does it wrong...hehehehe
Anyway, I'm going to look for a Paquiao's video and comment about how he leaves his head undefended after his jab-cross combination and advice him to change his punch swing jejejeje
Yes yes...... Those poor guys who think they can fight..... U guys cant tell this guy is teaching fundementals with the beginner in mind- i own a gym..... Im a coach n a pro fighter..... All you idiots and internet pussy-cats saying talking crap about this guy, please STFU! This guy is a great boxer with knowledge and wisdow, plus he fought Lennox Lewis in 1995. If you don't believe me, search it!
hi ppl, i usually run, swim, and when i box i warm up 25 minutes and hit the bag for about 1 25 mins, i need some piece of advice to increase the power of the hits, thanks for listening, greetings from Costa Rica to all!!!
@diegoromeromora , good advice all the power comes from your legs and technique, a proper stance and footwork mixed with good technique will come more power
Heres a tip when your going for A KO or hard punch breath in hard bend your knees and spring your knees up and breath out as you punch the bag as hard as possible, i guarantee this works
In a jab u have to have full extention(with ur arms). and also ur legs in a jab u have to put ur foot forward, aswell with the hand as there was a rope between ur hand and front leg. in ur upercut u failed. you are supposed to throw it from ur chin not chest. last thing, on your left hook u pived the leg i tiny bit. u have to piv it more
@MrJonathanDem his technique was fine, and besides your videos are tips and tricks on facebook games whch to me seems as if you do boxing with a rocky film, im sure the guy in this video appreciates your comment but you dont have to remind us what rocky does in his movies kid.
@MrJonathanDem hahahah you are funny. Dont you realize that is Justin Fortune? a retired hevyweight professional Boxer. HE FOUGHT LENNOX LEWIS !!!. He has been in boxing all of his life, he's a trainer and that is his GYM. Wait a couple of years more before you start correcting this man would you?
@MrJonathanDem his techniques were fine, this is a video tutorial and therefore hes not going to hit it hard. this is to help beginners, so there fore it needed to be toned down. you have to learn technique before the speed, technique is a lot more important
@allbitenobark I DONT BOX WITH GLOVES BUT YOU SHOULD CUZ THE GLOVES ARE PRETTY HEAVY ..........BUT HANDS IS GOOD FOR SPEED ARE TO INCREASE YOUR STAMINA BUT GLOVES ARE BETTER TOO ...............
@fury5551 That is Justin Fortune at his gym, a heavyweight retired boxer. A bit short but with GREAT power. He was well trained by Freddy Roach (pacman's trainer) and he definately knows how to throw his hooks you dumb ass.
@Ostrasize Almost anything will go flying if you know what you're doing. The key is working around it and timing your punches and footwork to match the bag. You're not simply supposed to hit the bag when it's sitting there. However, if you are looking for that(more for strength training than solo work), I suggest having a friend/training partner hold the bag. It's the only way to get a more static bag.
@sniperboy102 I'm in the same boat as you; i would say join a boxing gym, but i would think if you want to start off at home, get a punching bag, speed bag,a pair of gloves, and skipping rope.
@dmorley100 exactly. The way he's throwing them here isn't necessarily wrong but it will completely leave your entire left side open. And when he leaves it open like that, you can easily counter with a devastating right body shot, then when he goes to block for that left hook to the head. And after that everything is controlled by you.
I'm training in MMA and my trainer (will be soon) said to start out boxing for strikes but then go to kick striking because it helps your cardio and the you go to BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) ground and grapple then to all around MMA striking, kicks, BJJ, .
Every time i try doing straights on the bag at full power my wrists end up hurting afterwards. Its gotten to the point that it hurts for a week afterwards. Any suggestions? I do my wraps mexican with empathesis on wrist support.
@MrBACONLUBE1 Punchin the air with full power will result in injury or pain, since your joints do not get any counterforce at the and of the motion. Punch a bag, or use a shadowbox equipment.
@MrBACONLUBE1 try punching slowly and look how your hand looks if its straight to the left etc. same thing used to happen to me. try to correct it then work on the power.
@MrBACONLUBE1 its normal, everyone's wrists would hurt. u need to start off slowly. First of all, how heavy is the bag? if it is too heavy, maybe u shouldnt be hitting hard. start allover again but slowly to allo ur wrists, bones, joints, all these to become thicher and tougher, and when u hit with ur punches, or do punch push ups, ur wrists do get stronger, but not overday. u might also just happen for you to have weak wrists. go slow, go safe, go hard.peace
@lvlitzi Neither is better, the stance is generally determined by having the power hand at the rear. Hence most fighters are orthodox as they are right handed, so they have their left hand infront for quick punches and then right hand back for power. Same thing in reverse for southpaw, as left handed fighters will have their power hand at the rear.
One thing though... He's not showing or talking about the footwork, needed to properly throw these punches. He only show the upper body portion of the punching.
@Lee94503 This is Very true ive done boxing for a few years now. and there is alot more then just your arms in jabbing aswell as any kind of punch. twisting your hips, stepping on your punches, following through with your shoulders etc. plus hes swinging when he punches.
Boxing is hard I just started doing just for fitness and to know how to throw a punch, but i get so tired just hiting the pads. but am getting less tired the more i the thing.
@QCBEC rocky marciano was awesome...he was just a tough tough man and was a brawler....only undefeated boxer in history at the end of his career....rocky marciano FTW
@QCBEC I think I agree for one thing stand up has never been my game, then also you can tell that guy can really throw one when he wants to. I a judo guy but I find boxing fun.
@bluegama500 however old, i'm 16 just started im training my self first then going to a boxing gym i have 2 bags weights, skipping rope and to msoccer it's preffrence look at ali he punches just like the way this dude does, it's all about how comfy you feel
@bluegama500 no of course not, my brother once showed me this great boxer, forgot his name... that started at the age of 19, it requires dedication and will. Boxing is a disciplinary sport and that discipline isn't easy to come by. I started when i was 12 and nowadays see many slackers in my gym that do the sport just to show off but they're not real boxers and probably never will be.. It's not easy at all in the beginning and just keep your training consistent and often. Good luck to you! :D
ive got no idea if this is right or what ever but i found that since i started lifitng higher on the pec deck and got a bigger chest my right and left hook have got a lot more powerful
i did muay thai b4 boxing and the hip rotation with kicks helped me out alot with the cross. since kicking requires more hip rotation, u get a better feel of the motion
It's easy for us to judge anything by watching. After walking in ring at 42, yesterday, to get hammered by a young lad. First time doing boxing sparring. The punch you get sparring, is a killer.
You get use to it but man, I'm going back everyday to get that sparring guy sorted. That's what boxing does. Forget who can do what. Step in ring with this guy, you down with first punch. Forget first round.
Respect to boxers. Wish I started younger. Never too late to start and learn.
may i know is training with sandbag is the only way to developed a strong powerful punch? if we do not wear hand-glove during the sandbag practice, will it hurt our fist?
@7loveg Do not punch the bag without gloves, its better to punch with gloves, so you maybe dont break your hand if you're a beginner and well any extra weight to your punch (from the gloves) will help you, in my training as warm up we always did like 3-5kg weights in each hand and shadow boxed for 12 min or so which helps, but i guess sandbag is good too
@BluEagle717, I have to wrap my wrist before i fight (fight nights) now because everytime I punch without wrap my wrist has an extreme pain but doesn't happen when I wrap it, whats your opinion on why it hurts everytime I punch? My fight is on FIGHT NIGHT 3 PART 2 on my channel (I'm the one in the pink and turquoise trunks named aaron) if you'd like to see me punching...I know my punching is horrible and that's also something I'm trying to correct because I hate resorting to ground game, thanks!
@FightNightBrawlers Its proven that wraps weaken tendons and ligaments by reducing the bodys own ability to stabilize your joints/muscles. If you dont use it, you loose it. I never wrap my wrist but then again it sounds like your at a much higher level then me.
@19thaman79 Oh wow, thanks, I've never heard of that before but I don't know an alternative to wrap because I will have to tap out because the pain is so bad in my wrist after about 5 punches
@FightNightBrawlers I don't know of an sure alternative either but you can try to start doing push ups on your knuckles to help strengthen your wrists. I have spoke to a few guys who train at the same place as me that have many years of boxing experience say the same thing as you in regards to their wrists.
Just so you know he may not look very tenacious right now cause he's hitting really slow. But he does know what he's talking about, go watch the match from 1995 with Lennox Lewis even though he lost, you can tell he's definitely above the adverage boxer.
Where are the upper punches? Only saw jabs, hooks and body shots

@tunellord20 Ok. I have decided to get more fit before i start boxing. Just to make it easier.
bluegama500 1 year ago
@bluegama500 no of course not, my brother once showed me this great boxer, forgot his name... that started at the age of 19, it requires dedication and will. Boxing is a disciplinary sport and that discipline isn't easy to come by. I started when i was 12 and nowadays see many slackers in my gym that do the sport just to show off but they're not real boxers and probably never will be.. It's not easy at all in the beginning and just keep your training consistent and often. Good luck to you! :D

i did muay thai b4 boxing and the hip rotation with kicks helped me out alot with the cross. since kicking requires more hip rotation, u get a better feel of the motion

Never too late to start and learn.

may i know is training with sandbag is the only way to developed a strong powerful punch? if we do not wear hand-glove during the sandbag practice, will it hurt our fist?
please advice
7loveg 1 year ago

FightNightBrawlers 1 year ago
@FightNightBrawlers Its proven that wraps weaken tendons and ligaments by reducing the bodys own ability to stabilize your joints/muscles. If you dont use it, you loose it. I never wrap my wrist but then again it sounds like your at a much higher level then me.
19thaman79 1 year ago
@19thaman79 Oh wow, thanks, I've never heard of that before but I don't know an alternative to wrap because I will have to tap out because the pain is so bad in my wrist after about 5 punches
FightNightBrawlers 1 year ago
@FightNightBrawlers I don't know of an sure alternative either but you can try to start doing push ups on your knuckles to help strengthen your wrists. I have spoke to a few guys who train at the same place as me that have many years of boxing experience say the same thing as you in regards to their wrists.

Just so you know he may not look very tenacious right now cause he's hitting really slow. But he does know what he's talking about, go watch the match from 1995 with Lennox Lewis even though he lost, you can tell he's definitely above the adverage boxer.
