@Espelleanthus There isn't really a main character to the series, It's a PoV story where each character's perspective is followed as if they were the main character.

Ned died in the first book to show the readers/watchers that their favorite characters really were in danger, and that they could be killed off at any moment.

I think it adds to the suspense.
