Just a general FYI for those who are stuck at the reboot to get cydia colored in on 5.0.1. Make sure you always select the 5.0 IPSW BEFORE BOOTING. I had to do so and now I have Cydia running just fine.

I need to add in here. I had to use 5.0 for a 5.0.1 JB for this. I know many have had to do this, but here is my issue. When I "Just Boot Tethered" the cydia icon is still white. I tried this twice. And When I went to enter cydia even though its white, it took me forever (an hour) to even get into cydia because it had to prepare the device

guys if your having problems do this, download the 5.0 firmware not 5.0.1, select that as the custom ispw, it will work. follow the steps to jailbreak. now this is important CLOSE DOWN REDSNOW then re-open it. once again select the 5.0 firmware as your ispw and click just boot, folloq instructions and voila. worked for me on my iphone 3gs, let me know how it goes if anyone tries it.
