@cmbuvi92 I’m a drumline fanatic, and you can’t kid me on that. Here’s how we know that this is not straight from Drumline: Compare these notes to the movie:
0:48-1:03 - The extended intro is not played in the movie.
1:40 - The high part of the Trumpet line is supposed to enter there according to the movie. It comes in 15 seconds later, and none of the brass lines they are playing isn’t exactly the same.
2:21 - “Let’s Groove” was not in the movie Drumline at all.
Tempos fast. This isn't straight out of drumline piece of shit it is by one of the greatest 70s bands. Seriously EWF is freakin sweet and the fact that they're still playing at the ages of 50+ is kinda amazing.
And the song is NOT straight out of Drumline. Just cause they play it in Drumline doesn't mean people are copying THEM if they want to play it. The Song is a classic and great for marching band. If you think they copied Drumline, you are a fool.
This band is a monster! It doesn't seem like the movements are too hard cause there is nowhere to go and you can always gauge off of all the people in front of you (for the most part). There seems to be nowhere to move on the field!
ok, there is NOTHING wrong with playing to the back field for HALF the song. There are tons of ppl over there too!
Tubas are awesome here, but the recording is so far away. lol, it looks like the conductor is a whole beat and a half ahead but he isn't. That's just the nature of the beast.
Some people like it that fast, I wish it was a little slow.
i thought it was pretty dumb to have the band play to the backfield for an entire song. you might as well just not do that song cause you cant hear it anyways. and september could have swung a lot more!
Eh, swing wouldn't work for the EW&F songs that were picked. There are some. But these aren't them. Maybe could've been done on Let's Groove, but that's the only one.
it was alright it just didn't groove wnough i think it might have been to fast but i would even notice if i didn't know the song so well... the playing was very good!!
It doesn't surprise me. Most directors want the Tech job (at least most that I have met). High School directing jobs in TX are way stressful because of UIL, whereas most college directing positions are the complete opposite.
He's from Stephen F. Austin University. I don't blame him, the job was an upgrade in terms of pay and prestige. Nothing to do with SFA, it's a good music school, but this guy is spouting bitter grapes, and I'm sorry he feels the way to cope is to blast someone he previously had respect for four years after the fact.
If you could post the Texas game's show I would love it. Bein' an old Goin' Band member I love being able to see my friends on the field. Thanks for posting what you have.
This is from texastech.com. The picture quality is a little better on the original, but i think you have to subscribe to see the videos. i'll try to post the next game. hopefully they'll get better audio this time. i didn't post the missouri game yet since the audio recording is mediocre.
Wow...how much the times have changed lol. (I am a member of the band now) XD

Surprisingly it's not that bad but they definitely need more soul, it sounds way too robotic.

I thought so too, but it could have been worse I guess....at least they tried, some of our colleges/universities don't even give us that

Sounds pretty good. The Majorettes just need to learn how to pop lock and drop it.

what the fuck are you talking about?
biggreenblob 4 years ago
I'm talking about what I just said. Maybe you should ask what "pop lock and drop" means and keep the fucks to yourself.

Nice, but I really had the dynamics on the arrangment yall played for all of the songs period!
Only yall first trumpets should have played the trumpet solo on let's groove, and they should have played it up another octave!

He was at Abilene Christian University right before Tech, but still an upgrade by a long shot.

I don't mean to bicker, but it was definitely SFA.

Funny thing... Christopher Anderson was band director at my old school, and the second he got the job at Tech, he dropped us like a hot potato.
