Honestly the gameplay 'changeover' from the originals to resi 4 was good BUT it severly lacked 2 things: a DECENT storyline and the horror side of resi games. On resi 5 comparing it to resi 4 makes it look CRAP but I dont include resi 4 in the series, but resi 5 had a GOOD story imo but again lacked the horror
I think RE 4 had better gameplay. It revolutionized gaming. I enjoy them all: while the former have a better setting, and mood, RE4 gets you very action packed and straight on massacre while all the others makes you panic in order to get your gun at the right angle. RE5 was a down-step from re4... but it was a decent game.
The only reason I condemn the original Resident Evil is for its awful controls. The camera angles were fine, but the actual control layout was horrendous. It didn't add suspense to the game; only frustration (at least for me). I've played the original on PlayStation, Deadly Silence on the DS, and the GameCube remake, and I still can't get used to it.
@RocketSauce515 the controls were part of the challenge as the limited ammos. even to this day i still can't get use to the controls. When the dog come chasing u..ok up is to move...FUCK!! im dead i cant do it fast enough i got to turn around that direction befor i can move that way

@Arcane1Soldier your right. RE4 and 5 was not that scary at all. and on top of that, they let you buy weapons and ammo like RE5, which makes the game too easy. But honestly, most people will say that RE 1,2,3 were scary, and RE 2 being the most scariest of all RE games. oh, cant forget about code veronica cuz that was great too. after code veroncia, Resident evil is no longer scary anymore.......capcom WTF happened??????? lolz
@nafis100 What made RE5 bad was not that it was no scary, but it lacked story and character development and alike. Feels like they do not focus on story anymore, just graphics and gameplay. Dont forget, RE Zero for gameqube was scary as well.

please guys, re4 was a very good game. Being unfaithful to the franchise doesn't mean it's bad, just a little dissapointing. if it had a less action, more puzzles and a more clautrophobic, tight atmosphere it would have been perfect. i've played re1, re2, cv and REmake, and re4 wasn't THAT different from the other games compared to re5.
re5 doesn't have anything to do with resident evil anymore, take chris, jill and wesker out and it plays like a gears of war clone.

Resident Evil Outbreak series, being just an online multiplayer was the last/newest RE games with zombies that I played. Wish they could have done something more than just sloppily slapping it together (for the US, Japan had it linked together.)
Come on guys! Dont forget about Code Veronica. The first one is my Fav. but I really liked the story in Code Veronica, It explained alot about the virus getting around.
I think RE4 is the most fun game I have ever played. But I also like 1.2 and 3 was so so....why is that, that people always has to hate one thing or another? I got RE1 when it was brandnew and I really like it then and now, but it has its flaws, the second game was cool with some new stuff but I like the monsters and scenarios better in RE1...RE4 is totaly different with supercool monsters and superfun gameplay :) infestation ftw!
You don't even have to play RE1 to know it's a classic survival horror game, just hear the friggin soundtrack and the lightbulb ignites! Unbelivable for a game which is 14 years old.
What is so great about the modern action infested video game market, i still don't understand. The dumbed down Hollywood mentality is sucking the life out of old-school series nowadays and it's making me mad.

Resident Evil 1 and 2 were awesome. Afterwards, we got tranvestite psychos, cyborgs, midgets, you name it ... it all went downhill (storywise and enemywise) the minute Code Veronica came out.
It was all about the zombies Capcom . Give the audience the only two things that made RE awesome: Zombies and horror. Single player and darkness. No *forced* co-op. No daylight and broad spaces. Use claustophobia and lack of vision. Use silence. Remember the art which you used to master god dammit.

Resident Evil 1 still is the best one of the serie, and it probably will be. 2 and 3 weren't as scary as this, and they were easier, great games though naturally, 4 was pretty nice (pretty different also) but 5 is a little bit too chaotic. It has completely turned the serie to be action rather than horror, that I don't like.

There's a Orchestral CD of some musics of Resident Evil. This songs was recorded a live. Search in Youtube as "Resident Evil Orchestra". What I can to say you is: That songs are incredible, I'm sure you'll like them.

The original is the only game in the series thats truly horrific and intensely frightening the music the atmosphere everything about it just leaves you scared shitless!
It's all about sound ... People can make you jump with those movies where a sudden screen of a monster or zombie or whatever ... jumps on the screen and starts screaming ( you all know those movies like the scary maze , ghost car ... ) But you will also jump if a cute baby pops on the screen and you hear a sudden scream ... try it ;)
So like I said ... it's all about the sounds and music and imo RE had the best music ever in their games ...

I completed RE3 for the first time a couple of days ago. And that completes the circle. RE1 and RE2 had about the same feeling like RE3.

There's a Real Orchestra and so many effects is created in Professional Computer Softwares and they use synthesizer in this softwares.

Love the soundtrack the music is very fitting and interesting to listen to.
Plus when a zombie or other enemy is coming you get some mood music to own it to.
