there aren't films likes this anymore, this is the best meaning and recall of the word FRIENDSHIP. Not movies made better than this for the public and audience!
The movie is slow in parts, but really powerful because of Pacino and Hackman and the other players and some of the themes. A great road story full of talent and creativity.. I love both protagonists, but have a special place in my heart for Pacino's character, maybe because he's more vulnerable and humor is always a sure weapon.
this is my favorite movie of all time...the charecter study of two losers overwhelmed by the human condition...how real is this....i was 4 when this movie was made...i discovered it as a teenager...i'm forty now and i've lived and still affected by it...it's brilliiant...
It's just a movie right!! Al Pacino has to act like that!! But it´s a great movie with fantastic Hackman and Al. And i think that that rape scene damaged the film popularity. It just maked a lot of public uncomfortable with it and it was 70´s, people had more conservative views then today. All in all the film didn´t get much publicity then it deserverd. Unfair!!
yes, pacino then went mad and hackman went to get his money wich he wanted to invest in his auto thing, and more you dont see, but he gets a trainticket back, that means he is going to save pacino
i love this movie, for me one of the best all time, if i understand the ending right, the big guy goes to his bank account and gets the money to go back and save his friend from madness (im sorry i could not say there names, haven't seen the movie in years
I recall a scene that I think is from this movie. AP is on a public phone with his wife/GF, holding a lamp (?) he brought for the baby. She tells him the baby died when she fell down the stairs because he wasn't there to help her. He flips out and Hackman yells into the phone "what did you say to him?!" Am I remembering the right film? I was a kid and it was a long time ago.
@palmyrajo That is a powerful scene. I thought it really rang true and the Annie actress really did a great job playing the scene with lots of honesty. I think all the pent up rage she felt from his careless and cruel treatment of her came out there. Nevertheless you can see her vulnerability and that she did love him, and maybe still does a little, but she can't get over the reality and she stabs back in anger and tearful desperation.
My favorite movie of all time is Scarecrow. Gene Hackman was asked in a rare interview what his favorite movie of all the ones he did was, he said it was hard, like picking your favorite child, but he said " there was a movie I did years ago, didn't get much press, it was called Scarecrow..
in this movie i cant believe that francis (al pacino) never meet his son, who he has never seen. On the back-side of the cover to the dvd there is a picture where they are sitting together, but in the movie they never meet each other :S

Pacino and Hackman are fantastic together in this film. Some of the prison scenes are very grim indeed.
