  • The TV episode uses two camera angles, and although there is some very slight movement and re-focus in the second shot, the camera is essentially not moving - while the Movie uses three camera angles, and moves around the set a lot more.

Considering these are 100% identical sets, the same actor and situation, it's amazing how much improvement just one more camera angle and some freedom of movement can make to the end result (probably took a lot more takes to get it right though).

  • A real nuclear reactor has a "big red button" that inserts the control rods all the way, bringing the reaction to a halt... you still have to cool the reactor for awhile until all the secondary reactions die out and the actual metal structure cools down.

Why does the most technologically advanced reactor in the Galaxy not have a big red button? Seem it would be a simple matter of turning off the fuel flow and letting the reaction "burn out."

  • @Lordoffail It's not an easy thing to just stop a matter/antimatter reaction. Remove the matter from the reaction chamber and the antimatter will cause a breach. Remove the antimatter from the chamber too fast and the same thing will happen. In the time it takes too safely drain the antimatter from the core, unless you have a working cooling system, the reaction will overheat the chamber and cause it too rupture.

  • @babylon218 This is also why starships usually dump the antimatter from the containment pods or eject the Warp Core in emergency situations like this.

  • he rolls the first time too but not as cool

  • Epic maneuver was better the second time.

  • Geordi has a special relation with doors...

  • Lazy writers... ;P

  • in yesterday's enterprise it was a different time line so he actually did it once

  • Almost 400 years into the future, and it seems that a major problem we have with reactors today has only increased in magnitude.

  • Why was the first one 2 mins and the second 5 mins.

How could he tell one would be 2 and the other 5 just judging from visual inspection? haha!

  • @tombo1984 You figure, the 2nd Time they gave it better Parts. Maybe it could sustain itself a little longer, without Coolant. I don't know... :^P

  • Geordi is my favorite Star Trek character and the reason I want to study engineering.

  • @kevinphoenix2007 That is quite true....point taken. I wasnt sure what paticular episode that clip was from but you would be quite correct. Shame that they took off practically all the star trek episodes on youtube...guess just another way to squeeze more money out of us....they'll be missed by more than me I'm sure.

  • They ALWAYS take the episodes off. People hide them under creative names. HERE ARE A FEW: BY STAR DATE ( my favorite) TNG then a number of episode, straight title, star trek then the episode number, episode description, STTNG and many more just keep looking they are always here.

  • IRL it would make the most sense to build a starship with engineering and the bridge back to back in the centre of the ship, with multiple warp core ejection backups and multiple backups to command pathways, power lines to weapons arrays and other critical systems. A separate core dedicated solely to shield generation would make sense for a warship.

  • Thats what you get when Starfleet cut corrners and use a cooling system taken from a Fiat Cinquecento.

  • after he "fixed" the first one, you'd think he'd know how to handle it the next time around.......oh wait.....that'd NEVER happen again would it?......nah,I must be "mistaken"

  • @DraconusMajorus Don't forget that Yesterday's Enterprise took place in an alternate timeline. Once the original timeline was restored, Geordi would have no memory of that event to think to prevent it a second time.

  • Naw Naw what's amazing is that they can evacuate the whole bottom half of the ship in less than 5 minutes.

  • Bad manufacturing flaw in the coolant pump for that model year. Star fleet to cheap to replace with after market and keeps getting refurbs.

  • Yesterday's Enterprise never actually happened so there isn't any similarities.

  • Screw a new cooling system. Starfleet needs to invest time keeping it away from the part of the ship that gets hit by a torpedo EVERY FREAKING EPISODE

  • model pose :L 0.53

  • Jettison the warpcore every three episodes. Like a boss.

  • ouw man those damn coolant leaks..what did scotty do in those situations??

  • @Spionsilver He fixed them. He was Scotty, after all.

  • Yeah, but you get to see the classic Geordi LaForge roll-under-the-door of the engine room! He does it both times here, and he also does in Best of Both Worlds, I think :)

  • @BULLSHIT1173 One of those classic Starfleet manoeuvres! Think they teach it at Starfleet Engineering?.. "In case of coolant leak, eavacuate all crew and wait until last moment to roll under the door!..."

  • Geordi is worthless!

  • i always have coolant leak when i'm fucking my girl.

  • They need to eject the core. No, wait, that's not dramatic enough.

  • @dogdrovenorth

In any situation where things are critically damaged enough to cause a warp core breach, it never fails that the primary, secondary, and tertiary WC ejection systems/subroutines fail.

    So much for redundancy.

  • @sakar181 What if the primary and secondary were knocked out in the battle? Sounds like in the second scene he's worried because there is no backup left...

  • @Lordoffail

Hence the reason there are tertiary systems, or the backup's backup, on critical ships systems. Or, thats what's *supposed* to be there. But in such situations, it seems that either no tertiary systems are in place, or they fail.

After all, what would the show be like if everything worked all the time?

  • Coolant leak in "Yesterdays Enterprise" and the "Generations" film.

  • Gotta always love the LaForge maneuver.

  • @pscott90 Its dancing time.

  • They have a coolant leak!

  • You can eject the core.

  • @NoHuddleProductions I know. It is just horrible that they never be able to think of ejecting the warp core.

  • @benjaminmullin96 I wish I could vote this up a million times.

  • first sequence: TNG die alte enterprise- yesterday's Enterprise (Enterprise C appears)

second sequence: one of the Star Trek movies (Treffen der Generationen-generations)

  • Ah, the warp core breach. The age old tired stand by for lazy hack TNG writers...

  • Definitely something weird going on in that cupboard.....

  • :53 - Playboy pose LOL

  • He doesn't. The first clip happened in an alternate timeline.

  • Reactor's fine. Just needs to be 20% cooler.

  • @nyerguds

Or else it'll breach in 10 seconds flat.

  • @personzorz Bwaahahahaa!

  • @nyerguds

Come to think of it... in this video the core explodes, and then explodes again.

  • @personzorz It can do that?!? :o

*is laughing so hard right now*

  • Looks like StarFleet should invest in a new cooling-system.

  • @MormonJezus yes especially in ships called Enterprise

  • Que Redlettermedia:

"D'ya know what I call it? LAAAAAAZYYYYY"

  • @2008FORDF450V8 He said there was nothing he could do. We all know that the core ejection systems aren't drama-proof, so if we saw him try, it still wouldn't have worked because of the story anyway. Oh well...

  • if he had shut down or ejected the warp core in start trek generations the ship would never have been lost period.

  • How about eject the M^*%@#%#@N core!

  • I actually think this is cool. It makes it look like they have a protocol for emergencies around the warp core.

  • @SilverMcdowell1992 That's a nice thought; however, the production and writing for all the movies was simply lazy and amateurish.

  • @SilverMcdowell1992 nope... no protocol. Completely random.

  • You know what's funny, 15 years ago when I saw generations, I thought I noticed it, but assumed it was deja vu or something. Nice to know I was right!

  • Bahaaaa. Amazing that I never noticed this. Thanks!
