@soragarza It's a song called When Johnny Comes Marching Home. It's from the Civil War iirc. If you google it I'm sure you can find out whatever you'd like to know about it.
I play trumpet in a jazz group and a ska band, and i move around ALOT when i play, just the opposite of this trumpet. But he reminds me of Louis Armstrong with that towel he has. But they're all amazing. And one time i came into my jazz group and started playing a ska grove on top of a jazz chart... it actualy sounded pretty cool. My group is going to make a ska/ jazz grove that switches between that narrow divide.
Wow. I haven't listened to streetlight since middle school. I'm in college now and its funny because i'm just realizing what good musicians these guys are. To write a song that technical, fast, and catchy and to play it live as well as they do is pretty amazing.
They are good players. What they played was catch, but it is not amazing. No disrespect to them, but our collective idea of what a good musician is has gotten very low.
I'm a jazz musician that listens to Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis and many others. I can honestly say that the songwriting and playing of these musicians is AWESOME! The harmonies on these horns are so tight and complex, and the melodies are so varied, that I think their sense of music is better than many fantastic jazz players. Streetlight is kickass.
That's what's so awesome about Ska. It blends all the best parts of so many genres proving that we really do have some fantastic musicians alive today!
@AmplifiedRhythm cool story, not overly impressed. You are impressed. It is a shit ton of stuff to memorize, learn till it is so ingrained it is robotic, then unleash the energy in front of a crowd. Like I said they are good. Also, what do you mean "sense of music"? Also, my tone is mellow in all this, it is so hard to get that across, everyone thinks everyone is yelling :-)
Haha, I'm not looking to impress anybody. I'm in a ska band right now, one that looks to streetlight for a lot of inspiration. I can honestly say that, although the horn players in this band aren't absolutely mind-blowing, they have a lot of talent that should be recognized for what it is. By "sense of music," I'm referring to all the little things in the way they play the music: sliding into notes, dynamics while playing, controlled tone - and all of it while working with the rest of the horns.
@PlanetaryIceDebris they're right where they're supposed to be, big enough to play big venues, not big enough to play horrible kiss fm or shit like that
Haha I'm trying to figure this out in my head, I sort of play trumpet too but I learned it by ear but If I'm not mistaken the last 3 notes of the song are: C# D C#.
listen to the beginning of everything goes numb. where the trumpet starts the little running passage. the A D E D C D---E F G A Bb A G A--- Bb C Bb A Bb A G A G F E A D E F G A Bb C D.
the 4 notes in the first section after the A sound like the last 4 notes of the entire song, except without the sharped C.
by the way. when i say these notes. i mean written for trumpet. not concert pitch or anything else.
haha. oh streetlight. to me this song will always be the stairway to heaven of third wave sky. they shouldn't have had that damn foolish feud with catch 22 and realized they could be a tribe bringing together two of the best 3rd wave bands in history. up there with big d and mu330 fo sho.
This is really good quality. Not to mention the fact that Streetlight makes any video amazing, despite its quality. I learned all this on my trumpet a little while ago. ...Except for the end of Everything Went Numb. Pretty crazy stuff right there.
i learned the opening trumpet thing on this song on my trumpet...not the march in the begining (which was sweet) but the opening trumpet solo thingy in everything went numb
greatest opening ive ever seen....
