This isn't the green meanie...this one still looks similar even now, according to his site he still uses it quite a bit to get that strat like tone...the green meanie guitar was actually a charvel soloist...some amazing tips he gives throughout this session wow!
the problem with vai is that he has very complex ideas which means that he has a really messed up brain hahahaha.kidding. it is really remarkable what he does even though sometimes i feel that he doesn't play music in the end he turns these sounds into music vesy smart guy.cheersss from greece
a 25 year old video, maple fretboard, carvin x100b amp (probably), I think not all the effect he has got now, a strat not a jem and you still recognize him... sound's within his soul and fingers.
Remarkable! He was really touching on all the creativity that came afterwards in his solo career. Miss the Steve Vai from this era... He was more focused on the love for the Guitar than the businessman that he has become... Thanks for the video.
I think, compared to most other musicians, Steve is still a lot more focused on artistic expression. I think we should be thankful of that and that he's still willing to make incredibly advanced guitar instrumental music for a niche market, as opposed to selling out and joining an 80s throw-back group for monetary gain.
Have you ever read his diary that used to be up on his website some years back? I think he got that strat from Zappa, along with most of the amps and equipment used to make Flexable. If memory serves me correctly I think he was using a hot-rodded Carvin 100XB amp for this era.
@lydianguy That strat was the "stickerstrat" bought by Stevie's mother when he was 15,his gear in 84-85 was composed of boss-sd1,roland ddl-1000 delay, mutron bi-phaser and a crybaby into a carvin x100b head...
Call it Sleep was composed by Steve when he was only seventeen years old. I think he composed it when a friend of his died, in dedication of their memory.
How he get's his strat to sound like that, God only knows... xD
