these are a bit over weight. healthy lean german shepherd are generally alot narrower and can run very fast and are very energetic.. these seem like old retirees.

I've just been allowed to buy my own german shepherd. I asked for my parents acceptance in the matter in exchange for a birthday present and they said yes. Now I just have to save this months wages and wait till he picks me. :) There are going to be many happy years spent together. And when I get my own place, he'll definately move out with me. :D I hope your parents change their minds. x

My dream is to own a German Shepherd just for myself. It will be my partner, my teammate, side by side. We will establish a huge sense of love(like a pact) with eachother. I will treat it very good, make sure it's healthy and give it good food. That is my dream. I'm almost 16 now(my parents don't allow animals in house). But when I live in my own place, I will own one of those intelligent, loyal dogs.

Love your dogs - they're beautiful and seem to have great temperaments! You might have them both lose a few pounds, though, as keeping them on the lean side is so much better for their joints. They're getting great exercise, however!

Yes a bit. The male was almost 12 years old when this was taken and was beginning to suffer the effects from degenerative myelopathy. So he had trouble walking/running. Plus the image is a little squashed.

Oh, I understand now. Once again, beautiful dog, and I hope he is still around. I have a 12 year old weimaraner who is beginning to suffer from bad joints probably because he was overweight when he was younger (85 lbs to 64 lbs.)

These questions aren't easily answered in just a few sentences. GSD can cost next to nothing from a rescue or thousands of dollars from a champion breeder. As far as health problems there are a number of health issues in every bread. You can minimize this by going to a reputable breeder. Luckily it happened late in life. As far as which is better to get it depends on you. Are you willing to train a puppy and deal with "puppy hell" and have you had dogs before?

I know what you mean about people looking on in horror as they see two GSD`s running and play fighting on the beach. I had the same problem with my two,A couple from the city were down our local beach with thier wee dog. You know the one you carry around in a louie vitton bag!!! Anyway my two came belting over the dunes and all i could hear was this scream!! I went over the dune to find the couple stuffing the poor wee dog back in its bag!! Why have a dog if your not going to socialise it?

Im sorry to hear that you lost layla :( R.I.P You'd probably felt like me when i lost my shep(Lisa) 6 years ago. She died aged 5 years from a heart condition. Man,i was in such a state when it happend, ive never forgotton about her and i dont think i ever will. I do have another german shep(Beauty) im considering in getting beauty a friend, another german shep.

My Dino, a retired show dog, (only 4 now) would be surfing the waves.....never loses his nerve....I have the hardest time keeping him from diving into the pool. Love GSP, they are so wonderful, next dog will be a full blown guard dog. But for now, I have my Dino.............!

They did this all of their lives. On practically every beach, dogs are allowed on and some they are not from Huntington to the Oregon, California border. They never let me out of they're site.

This was nice to see. It brought a big smile to my face and a tear too, as It was one thing I wanted my gsd to experience before he died in apr06 from epilepsy. I so wanted to take him to the beach, although I took him to play in a local safe river. He loved the water so much. German Shepherds are great dogs.
