I personally love mice but I know about their sharp teeth, their eagerness to chew on things and the infections they may bring. Actually, my average fear of spiders is far less rational seeing how in this area, no spider can actually do me harm. Also, for being so afraid, he handled it well. But I agree, it doesn't sound very masculine.
