  • Has anyone got the trumpet sheet music for this particular version? please.

  • The BN were truly fearsome. Love the story how the Germans came across some supplies meant for the 28th. The Germans were all excited. They thought the Kiwis were so desperate for food they had resorted to seagulls. Sadly for them, they had come across the Mutton Birds(delicacy meant for the Maor BN.) You know there were some mad as hell Maoris when they found out the huns had taken their feed. Maori BN are Awesome. Huge respect from me.

  • SOMEONE PLEASE POST, LETS FALL IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!

  • SOMEONE PLEASE POST, LETS FALL IN LOVE!!!!

  • Is that HITLERS speech saying "if he had the maori battalion he would of won the war and ruled the world"?

shit thats mean az and true! saved italys nation and people, and did it with that true maori blood in there veins..warrior type of people!!! much love 2 the past maori, forgoten by most but cherrished by the people who have time 2 re-connect with the path they carved 4 the newer generations! so lets keep carving deep 2 pave ways 4 the next and there next generations! salute to ma maori!

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the music from this tribute particularly the trumpet in the background, thank you.

  • @chrispow59 Il Silenzio if I remember correctly

  • can you post the song Karu please!!!

  • nice video

    aloha

  • I speak on behalf of the sons of te ramaroa, both my grandfathers served in the 28th battalion,SIR HORI HENARE OF WHANGAPE,and TAUWHITU MORAGHAN of waimamaku.May their memories live on for decades to come,TE WHAKAMAHARATANGA(Lest we forget)..........

  • @IRAIAMU Thankyou, I noticed a new version up on utube, i love the pictures, always trying to find my grandfather in there somewhere :)

  • @bluebaydogg Same as me. Trying to see if my dads brother is in any of these photos. All we,ve got is a couple of fotoz. He died in Tunisia in 1943 5 years before I was born.

Im going over ther next year to see if I can bring his remains back to NZ to be reburied at home beside his beloved parents my grand parents. I think they'll like that. I want to make it 70 years after he died on the 13th of April 1943 he was killed in action

His name was Jack Kareko from Rawhiti, Bay of Islands

  • Lest We Forget

  • beautiful vid, thank you...

    'ofa atu

  • Aue!

i miss you pappy <3 xox

  • sends cills up my spine...this is me....

  • @teral1978 .. thats the intention :-) .. good rememberance chills though aye cuuz xox

  • Wow. Some comments are ridiculous. NZ was allied, never axis Maori or otherwise.Slightly ignorant don't you think. These days, nice tune but to say it was always ok is a bit like asking the jews to clap along to the German rendition of Hava Nagila in the world wars. PS NZ as a whole lost the most troops per capita of any allied force.

  • Beautiful. Amazing job. First time I've seen many of those pics. Thankyou for reminding us of those who have gone before us to make our lives easier. Thankyou

  • Can you explain to this pakeha, what is being said at the beginning and end of the song please.... This is a tino ataahua tribute to the brave men who fought to save us.

  • Very powerful images beautiful song, can anyone translate what was being said at the beginging and end, overall excellent everyone who watches should be moved.

  • @davewjb54 Girl, what is this? It is a photo. Nan, who is that? That is grandpa (koro). What are these pa? These are the medals of grandpa (koro). The time will come when these can be given to you. Really? Yes. Maui, Ewata, go back to sleep. Isn't your father beautiful in his soldiers uniform? Yes, a stunning man. Te pai o te ahua o te matenga....I think this is referring to koro being looking beautiful to die for his country....forgive me if this is wrong...x

  • Does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this song??

  • OMG soooo beautiful!

  • Kia Ora

    Awesome tribute

  • Really awesome. So moving

  • that last photo is amazing!!!!

  • 2.09 is cape reinga the departing place of our people to hawaiki,my home in Northland Ngapuhi hard, maori battalion marches staunch and true

  • Fantastic... kia ora mo to pukumahi :)

  • Well Prince Tui Teka, I have been listening to this song and video many times, and it always reminds me via a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat that I lost members of my family at Galipoli and the Somme.

I have visited both sites and they are lovely places, In fact too nice for all the blood that was spilt

I thank-you so much for this tribute.

    God Bless you

    lest we forget

  • lest we forget..

  • I remeber this waiata when i was a young fulla.... Ataahua, To the fallen Totara trees of the 28th Maori Battalion PUKANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song alone, is very humbling.

  • Nice vid my bro, Mean Maori Mean

  • from the 28th battalion to my Monster Koro Kenneth Watson. Hitler had no chance... Bless all who gave their lives or put themselves in harms way for our future. You are all honoured and will not be forgotten!

  • When I hear this waiata,There's so much I want to say but first I have to thank our KORO,yours and mine for everything they have done for us. We wont get lost in this concrete jungle we live in. We are a fine and proud people with Mana.

  • excellent job bluebaydogg! just as moving as the music. great work, Thank you

  • @jaffa74 .. aww chur thankyou :-)

  • They were uncommonly good troops, up there with the Gurkahs, and I sh would be sorry to see the breed of them die out from flesh and memory.

  • Waereti Tait-Rolleston : The Bridge, Te Piriti was composed by Dad. First song with kupu Maori to get to No 1 in charts.1974. Sung by Dean Waretini; Kevin Fury did backing. As a 28 Maori Battalion veteran Dad wanted to create a waiata in memory of his whanaunga/comrades who died

  • Ko Hori Tait i tito tenei waiata

  • Maori is a culture for anyone. its about about Knowing Io (God. Allaah, Jahovah) our Creator and we decendants of Adam looking after what He has given us. Our whenua (our land) our moana (our foreshore and seabeds) an most of all our people (black white yellow pink) all dominion belongs to God so look after this taonga (gift) he has left us and give thanks every day. He aha te mea nui o te Ao? he tangata he tangata he tangata! What is the most important thing in this world?

  • Agreed!

  • Whatever rocks your boat e hoa... Before your christian ideals were introduced, only a mere 150 years ago.. Maori had their own beliefs that sustained them for 1000s of years, we revered the land and all things living, yet with the introduction of Christianity, came greed, and a total disregard for our planet, through the destruction of our planet and ourselves.. There is nothing holy in christianity... only wars, money and kiddler fiddlers.

  • Thats right SOFAMAN 1000, we musn't forget our " Island Cuzzies" who fought and died, Kia ora.

  • Proud to be Kiwi!!! Kia Kaha!!!

  • I think he meant Italian vowels are similar to Maori. I heard a stroy about how the Maori boys over there used to go around saying kia ora to everyone and instead they would be given the time. This was because aparently kia ora sounds like "what's the time?" in Italian.

  • Reminds me of my dad, who fought in Vietnam; he was the last of the REAL warriors in my tribe, the rest are try-hards.

Too bad we, Maori, have more girls than boys, the 'English' know this and continue to fill my country full of over-stayers, so as to breed us out. With all my heart- Aotearoa, whakamaharatanga my Dad, I know english is my language, but Maori is my blood. Staunch and true...

War was no good for me, Dad, how did you do so well? How did you survive that shit!?!

  • Funny how it's an enemy tune though. This tune is Italian.

  • actually, the italians welcomed the maori battalion. the maori learnt the language(which thanks to our own) has similar vowels, sang the songs & played intsruments to entertain. i heard of an instance where the maori based in italy(dont know which part) cooked up a haangi then invited & fed the local towns people. they loved them thereafter. & today, the maori buried in italy, are well looked after as honorary sons of italy & its peoples. chur.

  • ake ake kia kaha e TIIHAAA!!!!

  • they really should make a screenplay about the maoribattalion show the world the bravest men to have ever walked the earth. KIA TOA MATE

  • i would fight in a heart beat for my family and my country"my father told me his dad"my koro said they had to fight them on there doorstep to keep them from us"the german war machine was too great to fight on our shores our people were very brave"the price of citizenship"it means so much to me thanks heaps for posting this your the man!

  • this was very heart felt"i am so proud of my koro who died in monty casino just to think he died for the people of aotearoa"im from auckland were there are alot of ethnic races and it kills me knowing that islanders hate maori for being maori"and come anzac day i never see any at dawn services"..im not racist but i asked my friends who are islanders would you fight for this country???they said no?they would pack their family up and go back to the islands,i was shocked

  • only the maori could stop adolf hitler tumeke koro

  • Comment removed

  • Id like to say in the memories to my mums cousin Gouge Tait and thier cousin husband Steward Black lest we forget

  • Maori Battalion is well known in the Pacific and Worldwide for their bravely and heroically representing all Pacific Islanders. Im a Tongan/Samoan and we always lookup for our big brother! Malie e toa pea Malo e tau.

    Ofa atu

    M

  • Some islanders fought in D Company of the Battalion, peace up for all the island cuzzies.

  • @SofaMan1000 .. Im 1/4 islander... so ups to that!

  • @SofaMan1000 .....true that. My Koro was in C Company and went with his whanau over in the Coast. Yes, our Pacific Whanaunga were also amongst our Soldiers who fought.

  • like many maori, this song always reminds me of my koro. whom is still alive today & is the last surviving member from his company. I met an Aussie who was tellin me a hardcase story, a platoon of german soldiers were being dropped in by plane, unfortunately for them, they landed right in the midst of the maori battalion(or a company of) . BAD MOVE!!! the maori soldiers, not wanting to waste ammo, used their guns like Taiaha, or just pounded these germans with their fists or whatever they had!!!

  • I heard a similar story (or it was probably the same one) I was told they deliberatly held their fire because "it was the gentlmanly thing to do" but a paratrooper dropped a grenade on them and blew the leg off a soldier so they opened fire.

  • The Maori Battalion were widely regarded by both Axis and Allied powers as some of the finest shock troops in the world being superb close quarters combatants. The Allies used the Maori Battalion to crack some of the toughest and nastiest positions they faced in Europe and North Africa - especially Monte Cassino. Unfortunately, this also meant that at one point the official battalion history records they had lost nearly 90% of their original members. Awesome morale, courage and combat skills.

  • ths makes me sad i miss my koro xoxo

  • tu meke cuz..

Another brilliant post that honours the Maori Battalion.

  • kapai...

  • Long live Tangaroaragi....the God who rules the earth!!

  • My great grandfather fought in the Maori Battalion also.. in C Company as Captain!! This song means so much jus knowing and listening of how proud they were of each other and our country.. AOTEAROA!! Mean Maori Mean!!

  • *sigh*..... the emotions this song evokes by itself are spine tingling and thought provoking..... add to it these images and you've got yourself a masterpiece! well done bluebaydogg.... you have beautifully honoured the 28th Maori Battalion.... such dedication.. so brave, so fearless and worthy of our utmost respect and gratitude... i wept and wept and wept and most importantly... remembered.

  • aroha nui pare ..aroha nui fiona ..gs mom

  • of course I understand the united states did the most work, but we also kicked some german asses! god defend new zealand

  • The United States did the most work? The United States sold most of the arms. The Soviet Union both suffered and inflicted the greatest losses against the Nazis. Look it up people. Rommel said he could win the war with one NZ division. Still, what did he know?

  • America was not a prominent player in north africa during ww2...& no "indiana jones" was not real duuuude !!!! ....& field marshal Rommel is widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime generals of the modern era,...your ignorance is astoundingly commical,....most of you yank "KEHA'S" are full of "TEKO" ..kia ORA !!

  • Your pretty ignorent!! To ratio NZ would of sent nearly as many people to war as you did! For a country our size we played a big part! I take nothing away from other countrys that sent troops! our blood was shed for your freedom aswell! pay some respect!

  • We lost appropriately 38% of all Maori soldiers that went overseas to fight for citizenship in New Zealand as well as for freedom against an oppressor/s such as Germany, Japan and their allies. For a people whom had a small population a loss for instance of 11 soldiers in one battle covered almost the entire east coast of the North island in NZ. Least we forget, least we forget.

  • Typical an american that thinks highly of themself. Well thank you for admitting to us that 'Yes the states fuelled the war' watch what you say buddy. We count every loss here in New Zealand, but then that's us we have a concise. Our soldiers came to see your part of the world as an adventure, what they were given was a gun and told to fight someone elses battle. MAKES YOU THINK AE quney2, wheres your compassion? Now that you are fee.

  • Well what on earth do you think I said, exactly Puha or were you just stepping back in your own? 1st up, I am a kiwi. Second, my grandfather was gassed at Paschendale and still managed to serve at Casino and elsewhere many years later. I made a comment about the slanted US view of how they won WW2 all on their own. Your reply, if it is a reply to my comment, is nonsense.

  • absolutely awesome can't stop crying

  • Kei te maumahara tonu tatou kia ratou. Na te mea, kei te kimihia ratou te ara pai mo tatou i roto i tenei wa hurihuri ne.

    Ka puta

  • this song always makes me cry...more so now watching the clip...reminds me of my koro who was a "cowboy" (in c company)..bluebaydogg, you done an awesome job on this clip

My koro & granuncle served in the 28th.

    Thankyou.

  • Tena Koe bluebaydogg. Always get choked up hearing this waiata without fail.

    'Nga roimata e aku kamo

  • Such a talented man

    very nice put together video,thanks.

  • Thankyou. it took me ages, as im a computer learner.. but this was the one song i tried to find and did not see... so i gave it my best shot with trying not to offend in any way.

  • you name one war that wasen't for the baldheads

    Fu*k all BALDHEADS

  • @waharua lol :)

  • war doesn't mean a thing....but loving and forgiving means everything....RIP to those who fought for freedom and for those who were wrongly inspired to die for bad reasons...may God forgive the creed of men that cause all the turmoil in this world.....

  • Reminds me of my dad, who just recently died from agent orange poisoning that he fought all his life... join the rest of the warriors my Dad, go easy on the enemy, Dad...

  • Stunning! This song always sends chills up my spine. Thank you bluebaydogg, for sharing this beauty.

  • te ataahua hoki o te kiriata nei. ki t tipuna a t koro koro tui teka, oki oki ai, k t mihi k t kaihanga kiriata, he pai t kite o tatou taonga e rere ana ki wa tatou tarina, hinengaro hoki.

    upoko mai t karawhiu!!!

  • Hey lets just stop all the hating posts and appreciate the values that can be seen through the song. This is a very touching song

  • Fuck all Pakeha scum. How bout that? Now that's racist! But what do ya expect? It's you retarded fucks that come on people's boards talking shit that has nothing to do with the vids. You just use it as an excuse to run your mouths because you're just jealous you have no heritage. Oh by Jeeves! My great-great cousin was a white seamstress to Lady Mary Hotten-Tosh of Freeglefry ROFL! Get it up yas and stop being a bunch of whining pricks! HAHA!

  • Everyone that went Maori and Pakeha thought they were doing it for the right reasons - to make it a better place for all of us - they must wonder now as they are in their twilight years why they bothered - the world is worse - don't let racism and hate ruin our beautiful country - else we're no better than the nazi

  • Tru dat bro.....PEACE! :)

  • Not everyone likes New Zealand history. coz the dont tell the truth of Maori history and all of it.

    RIP Nui Teke Hohepa!

  • this is to thunda1986 i strongly agree to what everyone had to say to you you are the utter most desrespectful person

'so you deserve everything that you get from everyone you probably not a maori yourself and you would not have gone to war to fight so i think you talk loads of shit for yourself

  • WE ALL SHOULD BE HAPPY and respect everyone opionion on how we feel bout maori history

im a maori myself from ngapuhi but this song is well done tumeke

  • I agree with you, fully.

  • nice, much respect to our ancestors who took part in all past & current wars...but that was us..the warrior race..the world is lucky we are not pure blooded like our tupuna..

  • yeh thunda is right! Thunda Box, that was the name of our outhouse where we went to get rid of shiit like dis fella.

Mate not disrespect to the aboriginals of Aussie, but how many of your natives went to fight on your behalf, not many if any if you ask me. Get your facts right thunda box, or I might get some of these tupana of ours to come visit you eh! He porangi ana koe, DICK HEAD....

  • OMG first time i have seen this, absolutely loved it!

  • lol whats that song?

  • High on a Hill - even better with just a brass band

  • god defend newzealand!

  • BLUEBAYDOG thanx 4 doin this TRIBUTE.

Nga Mihi nui kia koe e hoa :).

  • GREAT!!! go newzealand, I am a kiwi for life dudes. we got a beutifull history.

  • I agree brother :).

  • I'm sorry I meant, "This is very nice"

  • This very nice! A very special tribute.

  • Bloody Marvellous!!

  • An excellent and moving tribute to these men. A terrilbe loss for the Maori people. Every day in Europe people visit war graves and attend the playing of the last post at the Menin gate. They are and will always be remembered.

  • thunda1986 how dare you talk of my fore fathers this way"my koro got shot in the throat and died of his wounds"fuck you you cunt"he died for my country with honor and mana something you wouldnt know anything about!!!!

  • Thunda19886, your stats are right, the Maori Battalion were right in the thick of action, always were, hence the high casuality rate. The men that went over from the Maori Battalion were cousins, brothers, uncles and fathers, hence the need to put them into tribal groupings. You would fight and die for your family, you are immature, at 22 you are safe because of what these men did and died for and men like them from all races. You need to learn respect and show respect.

  • apparently most of the Men selected were good fighters and of Chief status and were also killed in Italy .The government selected the best warriors because they knew all about war leaving most tribes at the time leaderless.I say this-What diffrence the population would have made for maori if they had stayed leaving us to be a stronger people

  • He mihi kau ana ki a koutou ma nga koroua, e kore tatou e warewaretia.

Tiaki i o ratou ngakau! Amine.

  • Seemz like Tapu 2 me!

  • talkin 2 thunda1986

  • Nga toa i kapo e te ringa kaha o aitua.

Koutou i hinga atu ki te maara o te pakanga, kua nga i te tirohanga kanohi, koutou katoa nga tama toa o te riri o Tu takoto, takoto.

Anei ra matao nga whaihotanga o ratau e mihi atu nei e tangi atu nei.

    Kaneawhea te ate

    kaneapuru te ngakau

    Rokopopo te motu

    Haere haere haere atu ra.

  • Anana....Tika tau e Ko!!

  • Anana....Tika tau e Ko!!

  • The Reason why alot maori died is because they were spearhead, the first boys out there to fight because the white boys were too scared. They did the jobs that nobody else wanted to do because Maori'z have balls. You don't know what these boys did you prick, i'm guessing you are a jealous aussie?? am i right??

  • The Reason why alot maori died is because they were spearhead, the first boys out there to fight because the white boys were too scared. They did the jobs that nobody else wanted to do because Maori'z have balls. You don't know what these boys did you prick, i'm guessing you are a jealous aussie?? am i right??

  • My Grandfather was one of the lucky ones to make it back home to NZ , however passed away a couple years ago from a heart attack.. Looking at this brings tears to my eyes to see what he went through. RIP Papa... Love You... Thunda1986 hate all you want. It doesn't make you look good. It just shows how disrespectful you are to our Maori Ancestors. Humble yourself and read up on it then you'll see how good they were!!!

  • You would be better to use the freedom that your ancestors fought for to further your education as your spellings atrocious, and the reason you never see a skinny maori is simply because they were, and still are much too clever. Now everyone knows man is not fed by bread alone.

  • So sorry tha t remark was directed At Thunda

  • To Thunda1986- Its shows by what you are saying that you are a racist person.. You weren't at war so how the hell would you know what happened?? Many maori's during the war stole pigs and ammo from the enemy to help EVERYONE survive. Include "white guys". I wasnt at the war either but my great grandfather was captain of C Company and thats what he said had happened-written in his diary!! you have no repect for what they actually went over there to do!! and thats make a FUTURE for us!!

  • The Maori Battalion were often the spearhead in 2NZEF offences...Erwin Rommel, one of Hitler's top Generals, was rumoured to have said if he had the Maori Battalion on his side, he would of won the war. Maybe in North Africa but not the war overall...I'm planning on going to Greece, Crete, North Africa and Italy to pay my respects...i'm based in london at the moment, hit me back if you keen...

  • Beautifully spine chilling. I still wonder what Sir Howard Morrisons version sounds like. this is one of my favorites from the prince, I enjoy his two songs, Pa Mai & Manurere. XD

  • Still loving this mate thank you so much we just came home from holiday in Melbourne saved hard had an awseome time makes me proud everytime i watch your vid kla ora!!!!

    ofa atu, and god bless

  • This is one of my favourite songs of all time. Makes me proud as fuck.

  • The maori Battalion was one of the very few that Erwin Rommel viewed and held in high estem and repected

  • the maori battalion was the one that erwin rommel held in such high esteem and he praised them as well

  • cher kia ora tumeke my grand father was part of the MBA kia ora TUI.
