"In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it is just as bad not to say it."
When ever I listen to videos of this type it makes me think that the Indigenous people of America had it right and that their system was the better system when compared to the European system that was brought to America with Columbus in 1492. The culture and life style of the Indigenous people of the America was very sustainable, and they lived in harmony with the planet and their surroundings. If you think of it, it is the utopia that I think you are trying to create. Let's go build tipis.
We have been talking about sustainability since at least 1798, when Thomas Malthus published An Essay on the Principle of Population, describing his theory of quantitative development of human populations. Why can't we just live happy heathly lives and not preach this same fear that the world is going to end which has been preached for over 200 years. Imagine somebody buying into this theory in 1798 and figuratively living in fear for the last 212 years......that would not have been fun.
I see this video and i hear these people yelling at me and not one of them are living in a staw house. All of them has stuff around them that is contributing to the problem that they are preaching againest including that girl who said her family health problems came from the enviroment. @kenfla2 True. If one does not take action, their philosophy is merely a hobby. How can someone take another's philosophy seriously, if the person preaching it does not take it seriously? Granted that the way society is structured creates an entry barrier to living sustainably. For example; land costs and building codes make it highly impractical for someone to construct a home using natural building methods.

Have you not seen the "fuck the green movement" or "crazy green idea" videos.
Fuck the green movement.
The green movement in itself has the initial right idea, however the green movement will not stop the destruction of our planet, it will just slow it down by a tinsy bit.
The major problem and why we say fuck the green movement, is because it gives people this false security that going green will solve our problems.
Those of us that are fairly young, yet into the importance of sustainability: are we the new hippies? Hopefully we will have a little more insight than the Baby Boomers did. Maybe we can take what they started, and actually succeed where they failed. I hope so.
Permaculture - Reduce, Reuse + Return surplus. The Cannabis seed contains complete protein + omega-3 Essential Fatty Acid. The history of the uses of hemp are evidence of its' sustainability. Listen to the wisdom of the Alternative Lifestylers. Become a Hippy if you aren't one already.
There is a program called Agenda 21-run by the UN. I suggest doing a search for "Understanding sustainable development" and "1932, A True History of the United States" look for one called "Xogen"
I don't know what this movement is...just stumbled into this "walk the walk" while reading about peak oil and viewing videos. I think I have been perhaps practicing whatyou all believe. I bike, walk, conserve water, live a natural, low maintenance lifestyle...I have begun growing my own garden and I'm teaching my kids while I learn. Am I practicing your ideas? I'm been thinking for the past ohhhh 15 years that the world was amiss...

nah. its not so much politics, though they come into it to. And even though food availability is obviously important, once you have more than "just enough" the most important factor is obviously not food, but the situation of women. Societies in which women are in charge of their own lifes and bodies do not have exploding birth rates.

Overpopulation is largely do to patriarchy.
its a problem, no doubt. However, theres plenty of food for us all, its just not being distributed evenly. If it were, we'd all be fine. did u know the US consumes 25% of the worlds food? AINT THAT FUCKING NUTS???
It's true that the USA does consume ridiculously, however, and they even destroy a lot of the food they produce, in order to maintain high prices and manipulate the market.
ok, lets suppose there really is not enough food for eveyone (there really is, just that in this system food is not distributed evenly, its impossible in any hierarchical system). Regardless, ur claim that the only way for civilization to be sustainable is to lower the population is wrong. Civilization is not and can never be sustainable, overpopulation would happen all over again.
It is not just industrial civilisation--it is every overpopulated group on the planet, many of whom are primitive. Yes, each person in the industrialised world does indeed consume many more resources than the average person outside of it or only partly in it--and this is why thee nations too must reduce their population so that human civilisation can be sustained and bettered.
Give up meat eating - there is your choice. The meat industry is what is destroying the environment and depleting resources. All other human activity combined isn't impacting the earth like this issue. Your fork is the tool of a real activist...
Now, I myself am a vegetarian, but it is a scientific fact that cow "farts" are hurting the enviroment. It's terribly wrong what they're doing to the animals for all of today's packaged and processed meat, it's disgusting in fact. And yes to get to a core root of it, eating meat can hurt the enviroment. But I think it's the way we eat our meat. It's how we get to the meat and what meat we eat. So the meat industry is what needs to be COMPLETELY changed. Not meat eaters.

rv, i think that's a major point. maybe the solution is learning to have conversations that make new ideas come from within each other? like, if we trusted each other, and were able to really listen again... i think we need to prevent families from teaching the opposite to their children, and think about alternatives to schools, were it's driven out of those who were lucky enough to have a loving home. even the best books and videos are just vague substitutes to a real good conversation.

beyond those walls of kiwi fruits lies a hidden clove and that clove shouts at us. it shouts loudly and without contempt for it knowns that it is not a clove but rather it is an elk and its hooves are stained with cranberry juice. The elk cant walk and so you must help it.

americans make up 5% of the worlds population and use 30% of the resources.
99% of the things we buy end up in the landfill within 6 months.
things are made to break or go out of style as fast as possible.
don't buy garbage.

Don't U reckon what sets us free is clarity of intent applied as dedication to a mutually profitable aim? Thankyou for producing this video, it helps us to remain focussed on the core issues that are important to us as humans today. The benefits of being true community and refining our use of our tools/technologies is tapping us into our power ~ it is the human heart that is overcoming all the projections of ignorance ~ Thanks for this call, let's LOVE WAKING UP ~ Do What You Love, ThankYou ;-)

There is a real world, but it is beyond this glamour and this vision, beyond these "chases in Arras, dreams in a career; beyond them all as beyond a veil. And the ancients knew what lifting the veil means. They called it seeing the God Pan.

rv, i think that's a major point. maybe the solution is learning to have conversations that make new ideas come from within each other? like, if we trusted each other, and were able to really listen again... i think we need to prevent families from teaching the opposite to their children, and think about alternatives to schools, were it's driven out of those who were lucky enough to have a loving home. even the best books and videos are just vague substitutes to a real good conversation.

along with wanting perfection, btw
:)

i set the point in the wrong spot. i meant this as an addition to the last sentence. it's a belief we have to suspend.

where really the only thing we need is to listen to each other, and agree to try different approaches
zilchersatya 3 years ago
that in order to stand up for a thing, we have to agree on every detail
zilchersatya 3 years ago
suspending the belief, that we are separate from each other.

THE STORY OF STUFF on google video.
don't spend money unless you have to, and when you do don't buy things that you know are going to be garbage soon. (soon is like ten years) if we don't buy garbage they wont make it.
