  • Is this what you believe also? Do you agree with this quote.

"In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it is just as bad not to say it."

    - Jacques Cousteau, 1991 UNESCO courier

  • When ever I listen to videos of this type it makes me think that the Indigenous people of America had it right and that their system was the better system when compared to the European system that was brought to America with Columbus in 1492. The culture and life style of the Indigenous people of the America was very sustainable, and they lived in harmony with the planet and their surroundings. If you think of it, it is the utopia that I think you are trying to create. Let's go build tipis.

  • We have been talking about sustainability since at least 1798, when Thomas Malthus published An Essay on the Principle of Population, describing his theory of quantitative development of human populations. Why can't we just live happy heathly lives and not preach this same fear that the world is going to end which has been preached for over 200 years. Imagine somebody buying into this theory in 1798 and figuratively living in fear for the last 212 years......that would not have been fun.

  • I see this video and i hear these people yelling at me and not one of them are living in a staw house. All of them has stuff around them that is contributing to the problem that they are preaching againest including that girl who said her family health problems came from the enviroment. I think the best thing for use to do is what the dervaes and gardengirl are doing. So now wtw or STFU

  • @kenfla2 True. If one does not take action, their philosophy is merely a hobby. How can someone take another's philosophy seriously, if the person preaching it does not take it seriously? Granted that the way society is structured creates an entry barrier to living sustainably. For example; land costs and building codes make it highly impractical for someone to construct a home using natural building methods.

  • thanks to the global warming hysteria

we are about to have a carbon tax

    A FUCKING CARBON TAX

do you ppl realize what that means?

  • so true... drop it all, change your life, we need a revolution but not a war just a change from the hustle and dog-eat-dog life, just say it loud!! FUCK THE CO-ORPERATE LIFE!! FUCK TO SLAVE FOR PAY!! FUCK THE STRESS!! FUCK THE SELFISHNESS!! IF WE WERE ALL HIPPIES WE WOULD BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!

  • we won already, natural dominion rules superficial war

    love modest mouse btw

  • nice done!!! great. i like that this video shows that many different people are understanding and trying to move others to move our development towards survival with consciousness

  • Im all up for this stuff even taken part in the actual vid 4:58 but we are a strange looking bunch of people ha ha ha.

glad this is still going strong!

  • hi

mypinkrainbow is on meth she wont take care of her kids

long story short she is a bitch

  • going green is like raping with a condom

  • permaculture is like consensual procreation

  • so what do you suggest we do seigneurvoland666?

  • What do you suggest we do. Don't expect others to have all the answers. Its up to all of us to find the answers.

  • If you would have looked at who i replied to then you would have seen that is was cos the person was insulting going green so i thats why i asked...

Also i have i write poems and perform music to spread this message so i dont expect others to think of the answers

4:53 check it out mate (",)

  • Have you not seen the "fuck the green movement" or "crazy green idea" videos.

    Fuck the green movement.

The green movement in itself has the initial right idea, however the green movement will not stop the destruction of our planet, it will just slow it down by a tinsy bit.

The major problem and why we say fuck the green movement, is because it gives people this false security that going green will solve our problems.

  • The reason why I asked cemtex1 the question is people always come on asking for the solution.

And going green is like raping with a condom.

Its a phrase that was created by zzz33333 and has become commonly used to describe the green movement.

Its a relatively good start, but its ends are not.

  • Oh and I am confused. What comment are you refering too. I was commenting on cemetex1?

  • primus

  • "it's common sense.. you idiots!" haha, classic!

  • Those of us that are fairly young, yet into the importance of sustainability: are we the new hippies? Hopefully we will have a little more insight than the Baby Boomers did. Maybe we can take what they started, and actually succeed where they failed. I hope so.

  • Permaculture - Reduce, Reuse + Return surplus. The Cannabis seed contains complete protein + omega-3 Essential Fatty Acid. The history of the uses of hemp are evidence of its' sustainability. Listen to the wisdom of the Alternative Lifestylers. Become a Hippy if you aren't one already.

  • There is a program called Agenda 21-run by the UN. I suggest doing a search for "Understanding sustainable development" and "1932, A True History of the United States" look for one called "Xogen"

  • It is crazy how far away things are from a few generations ago.

  • I don't know what this movement is...just stumbled into this "walk the walk" while reading about peak oil and viewing videos. I think I have been perhaps practicing whatyou all believe. I bike, walk, conserve water, live a natural, low maintenance lifestyle...I have begun growing my own garden and I'm teaching my kids while I learn. Am I practicing your ideas? I'm been thinking for the past ohhhh 15 years that the world was amiss...

  • sounds good. yeah that is a big part of what we stand for. no one is exactly alike though... there's a big culture/civilisation debate going on between us for example. or on the nature of nature. everyone in different cicrumstances is doing his/her best to do the same kind of thing. just browse the members to find out more. cheers for responding

  • Sustainability is not the question, it is moreover OVERPOPULATION.

  • What's the problem with overpopulation if not that it impedes sustainability?

  • what causes overpopulation?

  • Irresponsible governments which do not regulate overpopulation, despite hounding from scientists for decades now.

  • government is only several thousand years old.

what do you think regulated population control before the invention of a government?

  • Availability of food, obviously.

  • nah. its not so much politics, though they come into it to. And even though food availability is obviously important, once you have more than "just enough" the most important factor is obviously not food, but the situation of women. Societies in which women are in charge of their own lifes and bodies do not have exploding birth rates.

  • (cont.:) open any herbal and you will be surprised by the number of plants pregnant woman should avoid because they will cause abortion. our ancestors are bound to have found out about this long ago and used this knowledge to make sure they would not set more children into the world than the land and their ability could feed and care for. Overpopulation is largely do to patriarchy.

  • overpopulation is not the main problem.

  • Yes, it is. Read "Overpopulation Bomb" published by FIGU. Also see The Club of Rome.

  • its a problem, no doubt. However, theres plenty of food for us all, its just not being distributed evenly. If it were, we'd all be fine. did u know the US consumes 25% of the worlds food? AINT THAT FUCKING NUTS???

  • This is false. Furthermore, there is not enough land area on Earth to heathily sustain a human population greater than 529 million.

  • It's true that the USA does consume ridiculously, however, and they even destroy a lot of the food they produce, in order to maintain high prices and manipulate the market.

  • ok, lets suppose there really is not enough food for eveyone (there really is, just that in this system food is not distributed evenly, its impossible in any hierarchical system). Regardless, ur claim that the only way for civilization to be sustainable is to lower the population is wrong. Civilization is not and can never be sustainable, overpopulation would happen all over again.

  • the main problem is industrial civilization and how it is killing the planet and everyone in it.

  • It is not just industrial civilisation--it is every overpopulated group on the planet, many of whom are primitive. Yes, each person in the industrialised world does indeed consume many more resources than the average person outside of it or only partly in it--and this is why thee nations too must reduce their population so that human civilisation can be sustained and bettered.

  • what causes overpopulation?

  • This Ocean Breathe salty.

    great video*

  • 4w3s0m3z0r

  • You're right, I'm wrong. Haha

  • Give up meat eating - there is your choice. The meat industry is what is destroying the environment and depleting resources. All other human activity combined isn't impacting the earth like this issue. Your fork is the tool of a real activist...

  • Now, I myself am a vegetarian, but it is a scientific fact that cow "farts" are hurting the enviroment. It's terribly wrong what they're doing to the animals for all of today's packaged and processed meat, it's disgusting in fact. And yes to get to a core root of it, eating meat can hurt the enviroment. But I think it's the way we eat our meat. It's how we get to the meat and what meat we eat. So the meat industry is what needs to be COMPLETELY changed. Not meat eaters.

  • The industry won't change unless the people change...not only can meat eating hurt the environment - it IS hurting the environment...

  • chickens and eggs... stick to what you can do is always the best i think. so vegetarianism is a good choice, i made it. not out of guilt, out of conviction.

  • These people dont know wtf they are talking about. Freaking uninformed hippies.

  • check out what we actually say on substantial topics first then make your judgement. this is properly viewed an introduction.

  • looking forward to ur next vid sick

  • cheers for saying that! makes it worth the while

  • Maybe it's really the other way around.

  • Interesting.

  • This is a farce on capitalism, which by the way is less destructive environmental impact than socialism.

  • no way, clearly ONLY capitalism wrecks the environment. Clearly communist and socalist countries have done great jobs of protecting their environment.

  • what crazy nonsense is that? The former USSR and China are VERY polluted by industrial activity - due to their communist nature there is LESS inclination to clean it all up - you should do some real fact reading! Communists do NOT care about the environment and they are in deeper denial than capitalists on the issue. Peace!

  • they are not true communists. true communism is actually just tribalism.

  • Hippies should be made into fertilizer. Is there such thing as unselfish hippy?

  • i think "unselfish hippy" is an oxymoron.

  • oi i said share this ha ha hahah

  • this vid was added 3 weeks ago, but good luck

  • yay

  • Its not we as peapole that only have to change its our goverments laws.

Laws that work for the inviorment is the key thing in this change.

  • Im in

  • hi.

I declare for my first proposition to partition that walking the walk to become featured on YOUTUBE.

Then for there to be a TV production to be aired on national TV (it would advertise YOUTUBE which dosent go against us)

You have the message so deliver it to all you know in all the ways possible.

  • good video

  • We're fucked! Read Derrick Jensen. The Earth is way past human carrying capacity. At it's best it can sustainably support 3 billion people. Why don't any of you menton that simple fact? This is a mental masturbation session. Stop babbling. Solar panels, windmills, whatever aren't going to save humanity. After a huge motherfucking population corection there MIGHT be hope for the humans. I'm not really disagreeing with anything you're saying it's just that you're so fucking naive. Wake up!!

  • So war is ok 'cos it kills the population?

Im more for survival and natural selection.

  • So war is ok 'cos it kills the population?

Im more for survival and natural selection.

    (Ignore the next copy)

  • great vid guys

  • Thanks, this is a dope video

  • all of these ppl try so hard to reach out to everyone, but they can't really touch anyone. pushing a bunch of videos through the internet with a common opinion won't get us anywhere. it's just so impossible for us to work as individuals in a contribution towards a better tomorrow when an intangible necessity for cooperation is met by the force of selfishness. the audience you are trying to impact is practically powerless to help you or themselves

  • It touches you when you begin to live sustainably.

  • well he gets people commenting... but will any of them commit to sustainability? a few of us may try to change the way we live for today...or a few weeks... but i'm really doubtful that any of these videos will persuade a viewer to change his/her lifestyle, especially in a system like ours; buying destructable products b/c we simply feel we NEED to buy things to be happy. looks for some free college economics vids

  • This should be featured!

  • WalkingTheWalk

What is your plan of action to bring about sustainability ?.

    Future Reality

  • well done!

  • I am so honored to be in this. Thank you.

  • fo sho.

  • Great video!

I hope it will be the start of something real...

  • Catch-23 - you only get featured if you don't expect to be featured.

  • we'll just continue and maybe it'll happen.

  • i remember when there was no youtube

  • yup this is a false distiction.. like you don't have the time to make video's when you're active on this in real life. making videos to get your voice out is just one way of activism

  • great

  • Feature this video!

  • post post post

youtube, will posting comments work already?

  • i'm going to post some websites that i think people should check out...

  • ok ok, we all agree that having a more "sustainable" world would be better, and its nice (i guess) to see people talking about this. But then again this is a you tube video, most of the people actually working to make the world a better place don't have the time to make silly videos as they are struggling to get grant money for there projects. If we want a sustainable future we need to question "economic growth", its a complex problem but thats a start.

  • 5 Stars

  • as instructed!! five stars. xoxox

  • I watched the documentary Fields of Fuel today at AFI festival about oil dependence and alternative fuel sources and it was phenomenal.. and I think man made climate change is bullshit, still go see it!

  • Even if we don't get this video sponsored, I think we've got a lot of great people thinking more and more about this issue, which is a positive start.

  • step by step we will just go on with everyone we have gotten enthusiastic

  • thanks

your concern and actions are so important

  • charlton heston is dead! YAY!

  • Action! Action! This is the key, with a word of mouth to, every individual you meet and see. You would be amazed what a few minutes chatting while waiting in line with people can one individual can accomplish in one days time x over a years time. Im a vegan and environmentals and holistic and I try to inform individuals all the time of the ethical treatment of animals and the environmental ramfications on a whole. I always relate to them on a personal aspect.

    People want alternatives. LEAD

  • today would be even more beautiful outside though if there wasn't air pollution and cars and civilization.

  • its beautiful outside here today. this is the first day of the year that i've been able to hang my clothes outside on the line. all winter long i hang my clothes on a line inside the house. i miss the smell of air in my clothes.

  • Um, yeah, I keep noticing how I'm not in the video. That's okay...

  • You would have stolen the show T...

    Peace

  • Hey, do you like Air supply ?

  • That's what we need !

    Some AIR SUPPLY ! :P

    Peace ...

  • I CAN minimize the harm i do on this earth

  • leave a small footprint on this earth

  • Yeah, mick jagger. What is it going to take for a video like this to actually get featured.

  • We need to talk about population and meat-eating most of all.

  • Good stuff people.

  • I'm posting another video response that is hopefully some material for the next collab vid per Gary's video. It should be up in a few minutes.

Thankyou for producing this video, it helps us to remain focussed on the core issues that are important to us as humans today. • There is a real world, but it is beyond this glamour and this vision, beyond these "chases in Arras, dreams in a career; beyond them all as beyond a veil. And the ancients knew what lifting the veil means. They called it seeing the God Pan.

  • Indeed

  • how about trading it in for a good potion or something?

    :)

  • good job dn!

derrick jensen was my turning point too.

  • rv, i think that's a major point. maybe the solution is learning to have conversations that make new ideas come from within each other? like, if we trusted each other, and were able to really listen again... i think we need to prevent families from teaching the opposite to their children, and think about alternatives to schools, were it's driven out of those who were lucky enough to have a loving home. even the best books and videos are just vague substitutes to a real good conversation.

  • along with wanting perfection, btw

    :)

  • i set the point in the wrong spot. i meant this as an addition to the last sentence. it's a belief we have to suspend.

don't spend money unless you have to, and when you do don't buy things that you know are going to be garbage soon. (soon is like ten years) if we don't buy garbage they wont make it.
