  • Jimmy is and still was the best...Joseph

  • Great stuff thanks

  • Listen to Lee Michaels version some time.

  • In 1965, at 12 years old, I heard Jimmy Smith on the B3 and immediately ordered "Live in Paris" and "Strangers in Paradise" from Columbia Record Club. Through years of changing musical tastes, psychedelia, folk, Rock, blues-rock, heavy metal, rap, grunge and numerous household moves,I've still have them!! Nobody compares to Mr. Smith.

  • What do you say to something like this?

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Thank you for posting. Takes me back 40 years..............

  • Jimmy + B-3, throw in some Kenny, now you can just shoot me.

  • @ grayguitar You couldn't do an jam on an albumn? Why not?

  • Still breathtaking after many plays. Such passion.

  • just the feet of this man inspired me to play the bass !!

  • @shytown51 I believe he played bass w/his left hand....which most of 'em do....

  • Great feel...nice chords played only like Jimmy could

  • OH OH OH WHATS REALLY GOING ON YES YES YES LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL THESE YOUNG KIDS DON"T KNOW ABOUT GOOD MUSIC LIKE THIS ! BUT I DO ! I AM 58 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOT IT GOING ON IN ALL WAYS ! I LOVE THIS MUSIC TKS FOR YOU TUBE

  • @50nicepink

Please listen to "Beggar for the Blues" by Jimmy Smith. I am 62.

  • Jimmy Smith, you are just the best! Thanks to my father, I grew up listening to you.

  • In the late 60's and early 70's my band would play a gig then go to our B-3 player's house and jam this stuff 'cause our commercial job wouldn't allow us to do a 15 minute jam especially a blues. I stole all that I was capable from Jimmy and Kenny. They both still inspire me. Love this soooo much. Palatable soul.

  • its all about the jam, music you can feel!!!

  • I haven't heard Jimmy Smith play in over 40 years. Man, these computers are the key almost anything.I wonder if I can get a piece from these things. That means a girl.

  • Jimmy Smith playing with soul in each fingertip whilst giving the Hammond a good work out not forgetting the guitar drums and bass - JEEEEEEEEZE BABY........I'm Gone solid Gone.

  • Amazing! What year was this?

  • The Best Blues!!!!!!!!

  • I ain't going to get no sleep tonight.

  • Jimmy........the best....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The first time I heard Jimmy Smith was over at my grandmother's house. I spent the rest of the day trying to figure out WHAT AM station down here was playing it. They were using the music as a news intro...

  • Oohh Duuude taht Grooves... thx for the grat posting!

  • Now this is good Jazz

  • can anybody tell me someone who plays the rhodes so much like jimmy smith plays the organ.i love the hammond sound but i also need someone who plays the rhodes good///

  • @MPOURNOUZIS The action on a Fender Rhodes is so "mushy"(notes take too long to come back up ) that NO ONE can even approach the speed that one -especially Jimmy- can play. Sorry, I love the Rhodes mellow tone too.

  • I love Jews music (jazz + Blues)!

  • Jimmy Smith is in this blue superb

  • F A N T A S T I C !!!!

  • No coment...exlusive.

  • I read all your comments - God Bless ALL OF YOU for appreciating some of the greatest music ever - there is hope left for the human race - this music will last for eternity - dig the changes - feel the blues in your soul !

  • bernieholland775: Well put Bernie. I've been a Smith/Burrell fan since 1965. What a team they were. Thank God Kenny's still around.

  • so cool.

  • Jimmy Smith is THE man still. I wore this LP out.

  • You're a fuckin liar Gary!

  • der beste für mich OMG super

  • 4:18-4:24 is TIGHT.

  • not as tight as those opening chords man. theyre the very definition of slick.

  • No doubt brother. With musicianship this awesome, all you can do is sit back in awe that someone had the courage to dedicate their life to artistry such as this. An inspiration to every aspiring musician.

  • Music isn't a competiton, ergo no musician is "better" than any other.

  • @meekrob There are plenty of crappy musicians.

  • I would say Smith, I often ask, who is better Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Brother Jack McDuff, or my favorite Shirley Scott. I rate Jimmy Smith and Shirley Scott as equals.

  • The answer is: Wojciech Karolak

  • groomtroy: I loved ALL of the 50s-60s organ combos..Big John Patton, Don Patterson, Johnny Hammond, Charles Earland, Babyface Willette etc. They all brought something to the table and each combo always featured a killer guitarist like Wes, Burrell, Benson, Everett Barksdale, Quentin Warren. That unique music back then created an atmosphere that was pure COOL.

  • whose better? Smith or McGriff?

  • That's a hard one there....

  • Jimmy Smith most of the time. But it really depends on what song which artist is playing. It can all sound like the best at any given time.

  • His music talks to you,...., and by God you'd better listen. Listen up real good.

  • This is the TRUTH! This is real music, full of every kind of emotion, evocative, provocative, haunting, inspiring, and downright full of FUNK! Bless Jimmy Smith and Kenny Burrell!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no one has duplicated jimmy's sound or soul. just awesome. my oldest brother introduced me to his music when i was 10. it was love at first listen. a friend of mine who made loudspeaker systems, ray karns, used to hand make the wurlitzer type speakers jimmy used. i believe they rotated at a certain speed to give the special effect of jimmy's. in any case...it is always a joyous of moments to listen to jimmy smith. just a happy, bright and under the skin feeling. fondly, prezels39.

  • never enough Jimmy Smith.. and here we also have the great Kenny Burrell.. just a wonderful vid thanks...

  • I was inspired at 15 to play the b3 from jimmmyI am now 56 and in Nashville Al MArcelli

  • Wonderful Jimmy Smith and Hammond-organ!

  • I remember Jimmy's music while growing up in the Bronx, NY during the 60's. Mom wouldn't let us stay up late but I would listen when she played his albums. They'll never be another like him.

  • I love the hammond organ!!!

  • Mr. B3 himself ! Holy cow, this version sends chills down my spine ! R.I.P. Jimmy !

  • The great Jimmy Smith. This cat, along with Wes Montgomery - these are the guys that got me through Nam with Brother Ray in '68 and '69. 'Dust Off' lives through these tunes.

  • hammondorgan

  • I've had both original volumes on CD for years, I wonder if theres extra material in the can still. Granted Blue Note would have to go to their sister offices in Japan, but Blue Note would do good to reissue these along with "Tokyo Live" by Tony Williams. Great late period JOS here.
