@bighands69 so youre telling me that my copy of theDefence forces newsletter, April 2010 Vol15 which markes the 30th anniversary of the wing is wrong ? Heres a quote from that newsletter, " In August 1981, the unit receied its black, red and gold colours, which signify secrecy, risk and excellence. A decade later the ARW was granted permisssion to wear the green beret, which has since become the most destinguishing feature of their uniform."
Green beret was a British mark of commando's and not special forces.
Ireland does not have an equivalent of British commando format.
The ARW is elite special force's And using elite special forces to do green/commando duties is flawed.
Ireland has a small army and due to this it requires more commando's than what it currently has. The only real method of defense that Ireland can really undertake would be unconventional warfare. and there is not enough of the ARW to do this.
You are mistaken the US rangers wear a sand colour beret not green.
unfortunately you have completely misunderstood my point.
Due to a complete lack of planning Ireland has doubled its special forces up to act as commando's. Ireland expects the ARW to act like US rangers and at the same time act as Delta force.
@bighands69 your half right, i think it is delta force that wear the green beret, they earned this by completeing the british comando course in the 60's. when irish rangers were formed in the 80's ,i think. they went to fort benning in georgia for their training and this is proberly where they earned their green berets.
@clarkeyladDF yea fuck me i didnt even know we had special forces till an hour ago xD i knew we had the rangers but i thought they were a branch of the army not the feckin irish sas xD
Thats the last week of the selection. After a week long exercise in the Glen, they're told to walk back to the curragh within a time limit! average of about 6 hours walking, full kit.
thats not the ARW ! haha good joke , looks like paintballin or sumtin , the ARW train in the middle of nowhere, and btw the curragh doesnt have houses, its all fields lmao
the curragh does have houses you fuckin spa. The curragh is a camp with a civilian town situated in it, its not a barracks. Soldiers families live in the curragh camp, there is a school, bank ect. Get your fuckin facts straight before you make an ass of yourself!
did ye no that 11,000 people tain to be wit the arw but today there only 451 thats how good you have to be to get

Irish army rangers should be earning the green beret as they are special forces.
The irish army needs restructuring it is based on defense models that are 100 years old.
bighands69 11 months ago
@bighands69 they do wear the green beret
brendan4ever 9 months ago
@brendan4ever
The irish army rangers are a black special forces in that there is very little known about them.
Green berets are general commando's and the ARW are not general commando's.
The Irish army structure as a whole is an outdated model. It is not designed for modern defense duties it does not have any commando's structure.
Its only commando's are special forces and that will not act as a substitute for infantry commando's.

THE state has spent more than €6.8m in the past 5 yrs on flights to send failed asylum-seekers back to their countries.
6,000 people are now classified as 'evading deportation' with only a quarter of all orders actually ever implemented.
In the past 6 yrs, justice ministers have signed close to 8,500 deportation orders fewer than 2,500 of these have ended in repatriation.
