i generally have the neck pickup about 3-5 mm from the pickguard and the middle one very flat , but that's because it's stays in the way of my picking hand .

did you install push/pull volume knob? I'm getting a switch to turn on/off the neck pickup but I don't know how..

hi ... no it's not a push pull , it's a 4 position switch that enables different combinations !
