The VW engine can run much faster than most aero engines, and when you get up to about 3,500 rpm the prop tips are going supersonic, it is noisy! Three blades gives lower tip speed and more thrust. See the four blade props on most glider tug aircraft, there to keep the noise down and climb rate up!
Thanks for the advice. As you suggest we will most probably use the original undercarriage. Its the first plane we are building, and starting out by making modifications might not be a good idea.
- the wheel fell off!!! - hopefully nobody got hurt.
Hi Daniel. I built GASPU in England in 1961, I redesigned the undercarriage in 1961 it is similar to the jodel design but I used springs instead of rubber and the mounting system does'nt match very well the spar attachment, which has to be modified.I can send you sketches if you wish to modify your aircraft.Allan
Hi Allan. Wow - from '61! - Its nice to know that what we are building can last a long time if we take good care of it.
It could be interesting to see the sketches even though we plan on using the traditional undercarriage. That way we can get a better understanding of how things can be done and altered.

I'm building one now. Should be flying soon.

Why use a 3-blade prop on this bird? The diameter looks reaaaal tiny, I would think a 2-blade would be more efficient for this kind of plane.

Hi Daniel,
I regret that this is not my Turbulent. However, I believe the undercarriage was either taken from a Jodel D.9 Bebe, or copied from that design.
I would suggest that, like this builder, you start with the original undercarriage, and perhaps modify later.
The aeroplane is not currently flying because a wheel fell off!

Hi, Nice video :)
My dad and I is building one too.
Its a nice plane you've made.
The undercarriage is not the same as the one we've got - yours looks better. Maybe we'll change it.
If you got more videos of your turbulent, we would be very glad if you post them.
