do you have maybe a routine that you use or regimen im tryin to get my daughthers hair to grow and retain mositure could you inbox me what you use or maybe a turtorial that would really help thnaks.
I know I'm super late but I must agree that these products works wonders for sealing in the moisture. I use the argan oil leave in conditioner and the super sure for my daughter, boyfriend, and myself. We all have thick, dry, curly hair and I swear these products work!
i love using grease, its the only thing that keeps my hair from looking dusty, much better than plain olive oil or coconut oil. as long as you make sure ur hair is moist BEFORE you apply the grease.
@sdotlondonkid, the Blue Magic Product is working great/wonderful for me. I prefer the Carrot Oil Anit-Breakage Protein Complex and the Blue Magic Organics Castor Oil with 100% Pure Castor Oil, Shea Butter and Aloe Vera. Not sure how long I have been using the product but I would say over 6 months.
I love love love blue magic argan oil leave in and castor oil grease..people just be hating on grease....think about it...when ur mom would press ur hair grease ur scalp etc..that grease was thick and it protected ur hair it sealed in moisture...i love it its cheap and it is my main product! Thanks for ur video
I just picked up the Super Hair Gro product today & I'm so glad I revisited your video. I'm even more excited to use it & hope I get a good turn out. And this debate on mineral oi/petroleum is ridiculous! I'm glad you used that quote above and talked about it in your video. I hoped on the band wagon thinking it was all bad, but it's actually a benefit for our hair.
Okay I got my Blue Magic (2) Argan Oil Herbal Complex and (2) Carrot Oil. I normally use the Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque, which I ran out of so I am going to give Blue Magic a try.
I 'm sorry she is right all those natural hair products jojoba coconut etc dryed my hair and scalp so dry and itchy. I used a regular shampoo w / lauryl sulfate and queen helene conditioner and I oiled my scalp with blue magic hair dress my hair was so soft supple my scalp was soothed not itchy and burning like the other products did to my scalp and hair... The only natural product that works is olive oil it also helped my scalp!!! Old school works!
Seriously a review that AFrican Export just did on Blue Magic Organ oil leave in.. Has me wanting to atleast trying it? She was saying if you use it, just be sure to shampoo it out with a sulfate shampoo? So I guess if sulfates shampoo does not dry your hair out, then it could really work out well. But I am going to try it, I'm interested.
Philly I'm with ya girl!!! I went back to products that contain min oil and what not just because my grandmother told me that straight min oil was all they used on there hair back in the day!!!! I found my hair reacted very well!!! So I will def be buying me some blue magic!!!!
I have texturised hair! So im not completely natural, how ever I believe blue magic is the WORST product you could possibly put on your hair if you have dry/damaged hair or are trying to retain length!
It wraps around the hair coating it in cheap oils yes not let the moisture out! And it sure ain't letting any moisture in! It breaks hair! It may have worked great when we were younger and our body's and the amount of nutritions it produces were higher but As adults we need to replace what our bo
would this work well on Caucasian hair as well?? I was going to buy some blue magic stuff with a mix of products after I bleach it to help moisture it
LOL! I read these comments and say to myself........PRODUCTS DO NOT MAKE THE HAIR GROW.........A GOOD REGIMEN DOES! You can use White Rain Shampoo and Conditioner, Blue Magic Grease for you scalp and Motions Moisturizer and still have hip length hair as long as you do it on a consistent basis. My advice GET OVER IT ALREADY!
I started using the Super Sure Gro a few months ago; found it in a clearance aisle. All I can say is, it's been growing my (ancient) hair very well. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I stopped using petroleum/mineral oil/lanolin, etc. about a year ago when everyone was saying how harmful it was to the hair and skin. So, I switched to higher end products, etc., and my hair became dull, broken. Well, I went back to a few products containing petroleum/mineral oil, etc., and my hair responded instantly. It's all about your hair and what it will/will not respond to & HOW you use them. Think about our ancestors with hair down to their butts, and all they had was lard & castor oil.
PhillyDiva you are a lovely lady and you have a beautiful personality. that being said, I think the issue with mineral oil is when applying it to the scalp. It cloggs your pores and does not allow nutrients in. that as that is a vital piece of info your subbies should know. Also while it does the job as a sealant anything you put on top does not penetrate the shaft so your hair does not get the nutritional value. see ppl like kimmaytube hairliciousinc chinablk ninapruitt for healthy hair info
@charli617 I hear you....ok check this out...I have been using the blue magic products for almost 30 years now...yes 30 years...when I was a kid- my hair was down to my butt practically because this is all we had back in the day and it works. I am not telling people they need to use this product...I am saying this is what works for me.If you or anyone have a problem with its ingredients- simply don't use it. All I am saying is if it works for my hair then I have no problem using it
@PhillyDiva19154 Fair enough if it works for you, I just thought your subbies should know some of the issues involved before using it. I personally like to know the full risks as well as the advantages before making a decision, which is why i pointed out that the issue may be applying it to the scalp, though as a sealant it does the job. I wasnt knocking it completly just giving some aditional info.
@charli617 That is why I said "thanks for the input"...if people including those who watch my videos need or want more info, hopefully they are smart enough to do their research....cuz that is exactly what I did...I researched that brands like Miss Jessies, Taliah Waajid, and others use mineral oil or petrolum in their products and they work.
@charli617 One more thing...I dont ned to see ppl like kimmaytube hairliciousinc chinablk ninapruitt for healthy hair info because I know what works for my hair...even kimmaytube will tell you that she does what works for her hair and what works for her may not work for others...I never knock anyone for their regimens or what they use on their hair...please know that my subbies can decide what works for them. I don't need to tell them anything. Thanks for your input.
@PhillyDiva19154 I meant no disrespect, that comment was directed to the people watching the video, for them to get more info about ingredients and heathy hair habits. i was running over my character limit ....of course i know this is stuff u already know and have probably mentioned in other videos i just thought it was worth mentioning on this one....it was just my oppinion, as i said no disrespect
@charli617 quote from Taliah Waajid: "Petroleum is known for clogging the pours. It is also know for sealing in moisture and other essentials oils that are vital for healthy skin. The scalp is a part of our skin. No, Petroleum is not good to use on your hair alone. Just as Bees wax is not good to use on your hair alone. However, both of these ingredients can work well when combined with the right ingredients that will break them down and make use of their valuable properties".
@PhillyDiva19154 That was exactly my point. People should know in which capacity to use mineral oils, i.e as a sealant after products with actual nutritional value have been applied and not as a "scalp grease". I dont use any of the brands you mentioned and i will have to look into what ingredients these are that supposedly curtail the clogging properties but untill then it will stay clear of my scalp. I really appreciate this discussion, it has been very informative to me and others too I hope.
@PhillyDiva19154 I just got myself some blue magic products and i love this stuff i heard u said the super sure gro worked on ur daughter so i bought some cuz i really need to grow some hair u said use it with other things so basically i can put this on my scalp if i put my oils and leave ins prior to this ...please help
@PhillyDiva19154 i totally with agree with you. i'm sure you as well as other natural women on here knows the "what not to put on your hair" list. but some things may work well for others! smh, it's not that serious people!
Girl i couldnt wait for the samples so I bought the items that didnt have coconut in them because i am Highly allergic. I started with today witht he Olive Oil Leave In Styling Conditioner just to soften my curls because I did a Wash-n-go on saturday and baby my hair has never been so soft and moisturized since I cant recall. thanks for the trip because even if it didnt work it was only $2.99 and since it was ONLY $2.99 this is going to replace my Carol's Daughter Hair Milk $18.00. Thanks w/ Luv
My 4yo daughter's hair loves this stuff. I've tried many other oils and they left her hair dull and dry, but after trying products with the mineral oil and petrolatum, her hair retained moisture. Like you said, don't knock it. Find out what works for you.
I have been watching you for about a year now and I absoultely love you! I am writting you to ask your opinion on what type of product should I use on my sew in. I have virgin remy hair and I love it but I notice that sometimes it get a little dry. I want to put anything heavy on the hair because I notice when I do that it weighs the hair down and it makes it look like weave. So I want to know do you favor a product that will mosturize the hair but won't weight it down.
@sunshower143 absolutely yes....I can use a product that contains mineral oil in it and will not need to moisturize for 3-4 days...I dont get the same moisture lock with just carrier oils or essential oils. Shea butter is also good for sealing but the down side is shea butter makes your hair look a little dull. This is just my opinion.
Okay. Thank you so much girl!! I really do appreciate it! Just one more question- is the reason that you wet your hair and saturate it with conditioner because it will minimize the breakage that you would/might get if you removed the braids when they are dry? I've never tried a method like yours (I always just removed them while my hair was dry) but I'm very excited to give it a try! :D Also, do you think because my braids have slip knots, that it'd be okay to use your method or should I remove
the slip knots first and then wet my hair and saturate it with my Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner to remove the braids? Sorry for all the questions but I just want to make sure that I know what I'm doing! lol Thank you again PhillyDiva!! :D
@Puppylion715 the conditioner helps with the combing process and plus your are conditioning your hair for about 2 hrs or however long ittakes to remove micros...unfortunately if you have slip knots wyou will have to remove the knots first or cut your hair before the knots...if you try to comb the slip knots, you will get tangling...try to avoid that.
Hey PhillyDiva!! How are you doing? I just had a quick questions regarding the removal of braids. I've seen your how-to videos on how to remove micros and I had a few questions. Although I don't have micros, my braids are medium/large (they're small enough to last a while but big enough to remove within a few hours), I was wondering could your technique work on longer hair? Side note:My hair, before I got my braids in, reached the bottom of my bra strap and the
the woman who braided my hair not only slip-knotted the ends but I noticed that she didn't leave much room for me to even cut the ends because she didn't really braid past where my hair actually ends. Also, I noticed that in some of the braids, she ended up slip-knotting my real hair in the actual knot. :( Another question I have is is it better to remove your individuals/micros when your hair is wet/damp or when it's dry?
@Puppylion715 I think its better to remove while wet but soaked in conditioner...unfortunately you will have to remove strand by starnd because of the placement of the slip knots
thank you so much I have been transitioning for the last two months and I went to the beauty supply yesterday and all of the products that I was going to buy had mineral oil and petrolatum in it and I was sitting their asking myself why are people saying this is negative for natural hair....so I didnt buy anything because I wanted to do my own research and you and others have convinced me that it is not damaging
PD, this is why you are a diva! I haven't tried Blue Magic in forever, but I bought a sample size of the Indian Hemp from my local BSS for 59 cents just to try it out on my natural hair. BEST TWIST OUT EVER!!! Thanks girl!
Is there a way to get samples of the conditioner? I'm willing to give it a shot but I don't want to buy the whole thing and not use it. I already have too many products I don't use! Love your OOTD vids. Keep them coming.
I never knew there was a leave in conditioner by blue magic! I will definitely have to try that. I have used all the grease-like formulas and I think I like the Castor Oil and the super sure grow ones best.
yeah i was all scared to use mineral oil and petrolatum when I first big chopped...but neglected the fact that before I went natural officially, I used blue magic grease. all the colors too! lol. I had natural hair, then i had locs, then i had a relaxer. now im natural again. Ive always used grease. i love it. and Im gonna stock back up when I go to the bss. I actually miss blue magic. they really do smell good!!
Hey Philly, what's a great leave in conditioner or moisturizer i can spray on my scalp & hair while I have micros in? I just braided them myself, it took awhile but I LOVE the outcome. And I'm a year into my natural journey, thanks for all your tips!!!
who doesn't like good ole "Grease" LOL!!! I can see a Natural Guru loosing their mind watching this video :) the best Blue Magic. is the best!. I would have never made it out of highschool nor College without that "BLUE STUFF" Hey while u at it tell em send some some of your subbies some SAMPLES!!! I have some thick stuff and grease just does the work :)
My first time seeing these products at my local beauty supply store I thought Blue Magic its a good brand my mom used the grease on my hair back in the day and I still use the grease. But girl let me tell you when I found out they have a new line of products I got excited I wasnt sure if the conditioners they have were leave in or rinse out. Today I bought the conditioner with the olive oil in it and I LOVE it! I wanted to get the carrot oil one but I usually stick to products with olive oil. TY
That's funny about the petrolatum and mineral oil, I started usung product with those ingredients lately and my hair has been doing great. I struggle with dryness and breakage so badley I was ready to cut my hair off. I was using all the natural stuff and it did nothing to keep moisture in my hair. But products like these help a lot especially when adding water to your hair. I know what may work for you may not work for me but those ingredients worked wonders and saved me from a big chop. ;-)
Great Review! I'm a natural who uses what works! and i've been using blue magic super gro and it works! I wanna try their creamy conditioners next! Thanks for this vid!
you are about like me! i can't keep braids long either...i def feel you on that rant...unless my whole life is about all natural and i'm walking around in a dress made of leaves and am a vegan i can't really trip on mineral oil in my prod
OMG you took me back with the Blue Magic!!! I will definitely have to try the Organics line. I admit I was one of those skeptical naturals when it comes to mineral oil and petrolateum but then I realized...I grew up on Blue Magic and my hair grew like crazy so it can't be all bad. It can be greasy if you use too much and a little definitely goes a long way. Thanks so much for taking the time to do a review...time to shop!!!
I use blue magic organic line. I have tried some of the all-natural products and they don't do crap to my hair. I had to take it back old school with blue magic, activator, and stasofro. Mineral oil does lock in moisture, that's why baby oil is my favorite after a shower, especially a shave, that or shea butter. Nice review.
I remember using Blue Magic hair grease...my hair used to be so doggone greasy. I couldnt lean against the windows on buses cuz it would leave a grease spot, had to be careful on furniture and I couldnt even lean on my arms without feeling grease, lol! But this does take me back, tho! I think the grease that worked best was Sulfur 8, but it smelled so bad, lol!
@mssweetsuga right...and I would be embarrased to let my non-black friends touch my hair cuz it was so doggone greasy...I dont think all products with mineral oil or petroleum/petrolatum are horrible but I cant do the greasy feeling...now I seal in moisture with liquid oils (after I wet my hair with water)
Girl when I seen the title of this video I was thinking to myself "Oh lawd I know the natural police is trolling somewhere" LOL!
I'm a natural as well. I've been for about 7 years. Blue Magic has been used in my family for a loooooooooooong time and we all love it. I never has an issue with any of their products. I say if it works for you why stop using it because someone says it's bad.
I'm glad you did this review because I think I will try out that coconut grease.
thanks so much for the product review......i will stop by my beauty supply store today......and thank u for the taking out the micros video because i don't feel like helping my sister take hers out......lmbo......thanks diva
yay, super sure gro is d 1...i love it...been using it for a year now and its really helping my hair grow.....and it smells so sweet...love it....great review xxx
@roxy101876 My mom use to it in my hair when i was young too. My hair was so long. I was nature as a child for a while and she would straighten it and put the Magic in. Loved it. I may go back!!!
girl you went back to the old school with the blue magic. This is probably best for natural hair i know the grease does nothing for my relaxed hair. I never knew they made other products though. THanks for the review
@Only1Meya you can still use it just use a light formula and grease your scalp lightly once or twice a week dont put it on your hair itself just your scalp part hair in sections and grease the parts then just brush and style adding your usual products it wont make the hair greasy and limp just dont put all through hair just scalp
I love the coconut product on my natural hair. Works and smells great! I never knew they had an organic line. I will definately have to see if I can find that line here. I also never knew they had a leave in. Im soooo glad they sent it to you so that you could get the word out! Now if only they would send me some. lol.
I didn't know that they blended the human hair! Wow. I'm not surprised though. The last time I got braids, the hair was feeling different...I bet that is why. You are so right about things containing the mineral oil and petroleum. It is also in lip products. I just use what works for me. I try not to get off into too much into ingredients. It will drive you crazy. The girl that twisted my hair used BM coconut and my hair LOVED it!! I was sleep on the blue magic.
sorry- you answered about the hair line. Thanks for this review. I did the aphogee thing and my hair is so dry ( i stop using it). I need something for moisture- will try this. I'm relaxed.
regarding petrolatum and mineral oil etc: as long as ur hair has moisture prior to putting the product on the hair or water is high in the product's ingredients list , ur hair should be fine...then there r also people whose hair just doesn't like certain ingredients...I use the carrot oil for twists on my natural hair
Does it feel greasy...the organics product that is?......would it work good on fine hair? Like do you think its light enough for fine hair?....does it add shine or a sheen to hair?
@HAIRMODEL4YOU girl that stuff is the bomb...my daughter's hair loves it...she has been wearing mini box braids that I did last Sunday and her hair is still soft...each morning I think I have to moisturize her hair and I dont or just a little...love it.
The last time I walked out of a braiding shop happy was when I lived in Atlanta, GA! The braiding shops here in my hometown (Tampa FL) a lot of the women are not license and they charge a arm and a leg. Not only that they will take your money when they really don't know how to do the style your requesting. I might have to try the Indian Hemp! I don't believe the hair stores here carries the different types of blue magic!
Thanks for this review! I saw one of those new products at the dollar store yesterday, and I was hesitant to buy it because I thought of the "blue grease" LOL. I didn't know they had so many new hair oils. I'm definitely going to try them now. My hair and scalp are super dry so this might work to keep in the moisture. Thanks again for keeping us informed!
I like the point u made about the mineral oil. I don't use mineral oil, petroleum, or silicones because I don't use the shampoo necessary to remove them. Some people just hear others say negative things and don't proceed with their own research. Thanks for the vid!
I TRIED THEM but my hair loves castor, olive and coconut oil better they seal in moisture as well... BUT idk if the BM products would work better once i am fully natural
The carrot oil might work because it is more creamy will try for my braid outs
Thank you Thank you for posting these videos... i know this takes a lot of your time... i just want you to know I APPRECIATE THEM!!! I will stock up on these products... everything that work on ur hair has worked on mines... we BC'd about the same time...and i am tracking girlie... right there with you... I LOVE LOVE being natural now... we did have that tough phase... but now... I LOVE IT!!! full head of hair now... no thinning... completely FULLNESS... WOOT!!!
I will try to google what stores in the area carry the extended line. I think I need
something for the winter months in the east that will help maintain moisture, and not cost an arm & leg .Just trying to cut back on my product junkie addiction (lol) .
THANK U FOR THIS VIDEO AND ALL YOUR VIDEOS / HELP 8 MONTHS NATURAL AND LUVIN IT... I USED BM THE ENTIRE TIME I TRANSITIONED(7MOS) HAD A NICE SZ FRO LIKE 4 INCHES WHEN I BC'D. U DOING VIDEOS HAVE REALLY HELP ME AND NOW I AM PAYING ATTENTION TO U TAKING CARE OF LITTLE ONES HAIR TO HELP ME FOCUS ON MI TWO HAVING NATURAL HEALTHY HAIR....TRANSITIONING THEM NOW FROM A TEXTURIZER TO NATURAL...THIN EDGES ARE THEIR BIGGEST PROBLEM BUT GOING TO LBSS TOMORROW AND LOAD UP ON BM BABY !!! AGAIN THANK U:)
Honey the BEST moisturizer imo for kinky, curly, coils is Avlon's Ferm Stylox Gel, and it has mineral oil in it .It grew my hair down my back when I first went natural years ago. I agree with you, in that you have to use what works for you!
@PhillyDiva19154...my mom & grandma & my "old school hairdresser" used up some Blue Magic grease--blue & green...me & my sister's hair was always long and lucious!! IDK what the big deal is personally with the majority of my natural sistas & this "anti-mineral oil/petrolatum" kick...i use the green BM on my girls now & the stuff does the job!! i may even run out & purchase the Super Sure Grow for us!! Great honest review!!
I stopped using grease and things because folks were telling me the horrors of mineral oil and petroleum. But I've found I can use some products like grease that contain these ingredients esp this indian hemp grease I have it has alot of other natural oils in it
I'm so happy you did this review, I had no clue that Blue Magic had so many newer products. I also agree about the petrolatum, All my mother used was Blue Magic back in the day when all they had was green or blue and me & my sisters hair was down our back, so it's doing something right! :-)
petroleum and petrolatum are the same thing guys. Most haircare products list "petrolatum", not petroleum. She is reading and pronouncing the ingredient correctly.
So true about the hair, I use blue magic product because of you and I so love it. I use it on my scalp, also my skin. Love it. Great I will be out in the store buying some more Blue Magic
I saw a video you did before with the super gro blue magic organics. After I saw it I bought for my three year olds hair. She does not have very much hair and is almost bald in the back except for a few patches. I will look for the other ones and purchase them. Thanks
@brigey the ingredient is spelled PETROLATUM (which an A not E)...NOT PETROLEUM...I know how to pronouce protoleum...I am pronouncing it the way it is spelled on the packaging...and truth told- they are the same thing.
blue magic, royal crown, posner, bellarose pink and jamaica black hair grower all old skool and all was used on my head growing up. i have tried the Blue Magic Organics super sure grow. I love it. I am trying the carrot oil conditioner. so dfar so good. Even better you get so much for your money. well worth it
Great reviews and Kudos to the mineral oil comments... Some products with mineral oil dont work to well with me and some do.... It just all depends but ppl need to understand that just like silicones.... There is no direct damage to anyone's hair when using these ingredients.. And like you said., When the products isn't building up.. It should be all good :-)
One more thing . . When we were kids, the majority of products that our mother used on our hair contained mineral oil and our hair THRIVED so I'm with you on that one! Don't believe the hype people.
@MsChanteJ72 child my mom used to use straight up grease on my hair...it was called grease and it was thick and stinky but my hair was thick and long down my back...stuupdi me relaxed my hair when I was 12 and it was all down hill.
@MsChanteJ72 Agree. Blue Magic, Royal Crown, TCB (loved this stuff)...all were so good. Smelled great too. My hair was so long. Hmm I thick I will give MB another try lol.
@MsChanteJ72 They were good lol. I went to the grocery store today. I saw TCB. It was so old. Didn't get it. I think it has been sitting there for a while.
Your hair is growing so thick and pretty!! Great review!! I didn't realize blue magic had updated their line. I thought they just had the blue grease and the green grease. . .lol!!
I really want to try blue magic now!

Super Sure Gro Helps My Hair Growth!!! Love It!
Moonlit1996 1 year ago
I started using the Super Sure Gro a few months ago; found it in a clearance aisle. All I can say is, it's been growing my (ancient) hair very well. Thank you for sharing this with us.
dollladie 1 year ago
I stopped using petroleum/mineral oil/lanolin, etc. about a year ago when everyone was saying how harmful it was to the hair and skin. So, I switched to higher end products, etc., and my hair became dull, broken. Well, I went back to a few products containing petroleum/mineral oil, etc., and my hair responded instantly. It's all about your hair and what it will/will not respond to & HOW you use them. Think about our ancestors with hair down to their butts, and all they had was lard & castor oil.
dollladie 1 year ago 4
PhillyDiva you are a lovely lady and you have a beautiful personality. that being said, I think the issue with mineral oil is when applying it to the scalp. It cloggs your pores and does not allow nutrients in. that as that is a vital piece of info your subbies should know. Also while it does the job as a sealant anything you put on top does not penetrate the shaft so your hair does not get the nutritional value. see ppl like kimmaytube hairliciousinc chinablk ninapruitt for healthy hair info
charli617 1 year ago 2
@charli617 I hear you....ok check this out...I have been using the blue magic products for almost 30 years now...yes 30 years...when I was a kid- my hair was down to my butt practically because this is all we had back in the day and it works. I am not telling people they need to use this product...I am saying this is what works for me.If you or anyone have a problem with its ingredients- simply don't use it. All I am saying is if it works for my hair then I have no problem using it
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago 2
@PhillyDiva19154 Fair enough if it works for you, I just thought your subbies should know some of the issues involved before using it. I personally like to know the full risks as well as the advantages before making a decision, which is why i pointed out that the issue may be applying it to the scalp, though as a sealant it does the job. I wasnt knocking it completly just giving some aditional info.
charli617 1 year ago
@charli617 That is why I said "thanks for the input"...if people including those who watch my videos need or want more info, hopefully they are smart enough to do their research....cuz that is exactly what I did...I researched that brands like Miss Jessies, Taliah Waajid, and others use mineral oil or petrolum in their products and they work.
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago
@charli617 One more thing...I dont ned to see ppl like kimmaytube hairliciousinc chinablk ninapruitt for healthy hair info because I know what works for my hair...even kimmaytube will tell you that she does what works for her hair and what works for her may not work for others...I never knock anyone for their regimens or what they use on their hair...please know that my subbies can decide what works for them. I don't need to tell them anything. Thanks for your input.
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago 12
@PhillyDiva19154 I meant no disrespect, that comment was directed to the people watching the video, for them to get more info about ingredients and heathy hair habits. i was running over my character limit ....of course i know this is stuff u already know and have probably mentioned in other videos i just thought it was worth mentioning on this one....it was just my oppinion, as i said no disrespect
charli617 1 year ago 5
@charli617 quote from Taliah Waajid: "Petroleum is known for clogging the pours. It is also know for sealing in moisture and other essentials oils that are vital for healthy skin. The scalp is a part of our skin. No, Petroleum is not good to use on your hair alone. Just as Bees wax is not good to use on your hair alone. However, both of these ingredients can work well when combined with the right ingredients that will break them down and make use of their valuable properties".
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago 13
@PhillyDiva19154 That was exactly my point. People should know in which capacity to use mineral oils, i.e as a sealant after products with actual nutritional value have been applied and not as a "scalp grease". I dont use any of the brands you mentioned and i will have to look into what ingredients these are that supposedly curtail the clogging properties but untill then it will stay clear of my scalp. I really appreciate this discussion, it has been very informative to me and others too I hope.

Thanks!
melogyrl1984 1 year ago
do you feel that mineral oil is a better sealant than castor oil, coconut oil, etc?
sunshower143 1 year ago
@sunshower143 absolutely yes....I can use a product that contains mineral oil in it and will not need to moisturize for 3-4 days...I dont get the same moisture lock with just carrier oils or essential oils. Shea butter is also good for sealing but the down side is shea butter makes your hair look a little dull. This is just my opinion.
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago
thanks for the review....I also use the Blue Magic Castor Oil in my daughters hair and really does wonders and keeps their moisturized.

Puppylion715 1 year ago
the slip knots first and then wet my hair and saturate it with my Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner to remove the braids? Sorry for all the questions but I just want to make sure that I know what I'm doing! lol Thank you again PhillyDiva!! :D
Puppylion715 1 year ago
@Puppylion715 the conditioner helps with the combing process and plus your are conditioning your hair for about 2 hrs or however long ittakes to remove micros...unfortunately if you have slip knots wyou will have to remove the knots first or cut your hair before the knots...if you try to comb the slip knots, you will get tangling...try to avoid that.
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago
I have the same view as you petrlatum and mineral oil do provide a good seal on wet to damp hair and also we grew up on that!lol:)
gwyn247 1 year ago
Hey PhillyDiva!! How are you doing? I just had a quick questions regarding the removal of braids. I've seen your how-to videos on how to remove micros and I had a few questions. Although I don't have micros, my braids are medium/large (they're small enough to last a while but big enough to remove within a few hours), I was wondering could your technique work on longer hair? Side note:My hair, before I got my braids in, reached the bottom of my bra strap and the
Puppylion715 1 year ago
the woman who braided my hair not only slip-knotted the ends but I noticed that she didn't leave much room for me to even cut the ends because she didn't really braid past where my hair actually ends. Also, I noticed that in some of the braids, she ended up slip-knotting my real hair in the actual knot. :( Another question I have is is it better to remove your individuals/micros when your hair is wet/damp or when it's dry?
Puppylion715 1 year ago
@Puppylion715 I think its better to remove while wet but soaked in conditioner...unfortunately you will have to remove strand by starnd because of the placement of the slip knots
PhillyDiva19154 1 year ago
@Puppylion715 can work on long hair just takes longer

I know what may work for you may not work for me but those ingredients worked wonders and saved me from a big chop. ;-)

Thanks so much for taking the time to do a review...time to shop!!!
mizchei1 1 year ago 2
I use blue magic organic line. I have tried some of the all-natural products and they don't do crap to my hair. I had to take it back old school with blue magic, activator, and stasofro. Mineral oil does lock in moisture, that's why baby oil is my favorite after a shower, especially a shave, that or shea butter. Nice review.
foreveropti79 1 year ago
I remember using Blue Magic hair grease...my hair used to be so doggone greasy. I couldnt lean against the windows on buses cuz it would leave a grease spot, had to be careful on furniture and I couldnt even lean on my arms without feeling grease, lol! But this does take me back, tho! I think the grease that worked best was Sulfur 8, but it smelled so bad, lol!

Only1Meya 1 year ago
@Only1Meya you can still use it just use a light formula and grease your scalp lightly once or twice a week dont put it on your hair itself just your scalp part hair in sections and grease the parts then just brush and style adding your usual products it wont make the hair greasy and limp just dont put all through hair just scalp
visweetaddie 1 year ago

regarding petrolatum and mineral oil etc: as long as ur hair has moisture prior to putting the product on the hair or water is high in the product's ingredients list , ur hair should be fine...then there r also people whose hair just doesn't like certain ingredients...I use the carrot oil for twists on my natural hair
