NEVER, NEVER use reverse gear when backing down a hill with a rear wheel drive vehicle!! Even if it is in 4-wheel drive range!
ALWAYS use neutral.
When going forward and coming to a stop, throw it in neutral at 10 MPH and you will notice it gripping 10 times better too. (For rear wheel drive vehicles ONLY, even when engaged in 4-wheel drive range)
that is really the easiest thing every a 1/2 ton truck and some all terrain tires and i would make it. its not the matter of hailing ass its a matter of momentum. i live on a hill steeper then that and make it ever winter and the snow is 12 inches sometimes at the least.
@cb7pwn If I helped every jackass who was driving in that weather I wouldn't be able to pay my bills (I work from home). Anytime the weather is like that the hill outside is littered with morons. We've actually thought about just putting up a camera all winter to automate it.
and that is the problem with open differentials only one front and one back tire spins, get a good truck with an off road package and get at least a rear locker, that should help the problem or do what i did buy tire chains, very very effective. he would have been able to make it in 2wd then
that guy couldve solved it by turning the wheel the other way and giving it gas instead of doing it this way and he woulda been alright to turn around
smart driver there letting off the brakes to regain control. However, why in the world you would be out on that street with a 2wd is another question.
@huntman303 rofl rofl... where the fuck did you learn such stupidity?? 4x4 and brake power are in no way related.... plz dont even bother arguing just from your hilbily comment i ahve come to understand i know way more then you on this subject....pz drive safe i have a feelling your a dangerous 1 on the road....even distribution to the brake would be abs.... it only help the car stay in a straight line.... doesnt help in brake distance....
@CedrikTheManiac00 before you even bother answering you drive a f-250 and you know how to drive in snow... know this... i live in nothern quebec and plow for a living... i own a 99 dodge ram 2500 standard and a 2wd ford ranger....
@CedrikTheManiac00 actually most vehicles tend to lock up the front brakes before the back which causes a lose of steering which i consider part of the brakes since they cause the problem 4x4 true 50/50 make even braking to all four wheels but maybe that this problem of front wheels locking up before the back start to is because most of your snow turns to pure ice within hours.
50/50 braking would make the rears lock up REAL quick! Weight distribution is a key factor, but on average, 70-80% of brake power goes to the front because of weight and weight transfer.
good driver he didn't have anti-lock brakes soo as he went down he let off the brakes and regained control. my f250 supposedly has anti-lock brakes on all four but i don't think that that is true lol!! but very good driving!!
weird seeing this (I'm in Australia, just got a `cool' change - its just before midnight on NYE and its about 30 C outside at the moment - been around 40 C (about 105 F) last couple of days.. anyway, my qu - why do you guys even try driving in these conditions? I mean I know you have to get to work or whatever but it seems like you have zero control in these conditions...just doesn't seem worth it...
Im in Central Canada (Ontario) in the snow belt, and we get like 3 times more snow than this, and its not too bad to drive in, as long as you know what your doing and drive according to the conditions. What you see here is a guy trying to go up a steep ass hill, with a RWD truck. I meen anyone with a brain (well here where I live anyways) would know not to even go near this Hill.. Just looked out my window and its probly about -20 outside, and blowing snow, making it 0 Visibility...Wana Trade?
Um....I'd trade for about a minute (we've got more 39 degree days on the way i.e. above 100 F for the next few days...) a few minutes of -20 would be great, might wear a bit thin after that...
Shit dude, thats hot. It barely got above 30 here last summer...I dont mind the snow, as long as its more like -3 to -5 and it does wear thin, I start to miss dirt biking after about a month lol
@xbfalcon351coupe The simple answer to that question is this guy needs 4wd. Then hopefully he would carefully make his way up the hill. As much as I love Australia I would miss the snow.
Yeh, its funny the things you get used to...outside at the moment its about 36 deg C and we're all saying to each other `make the most of the mild weather cos we have 4 days of 41 C coming up'..(37.5 = 100 F) - I was just saying to someone here that in Western Aust I lived on the edge of the desert, we'd see 45 - 50 C often (113 - 122F) - a car got bogged to the axles once outside our house - in the bitumen of the road...the tar just plain melted in the heat.. once fried an egg on the sidewalk.
You gotta be shitting me. About the egg thing. I mean I have gotten tar everywhere on my bicycle because of melted tar. Maybe once ever, lol. But I have only heard of the egg frying thing. I have done it on my car's exhaust manifold. But that was to win a quick bet. Did you really cook an egg on the sidewalk?
I know, it sounds unbelievable - I was 10, it was 51 deg C in the shade, my dad said `its hot enough to fry an egg' and being 10 I had to give it a go. It took nearly 10 mins but by then all the white had cooked - we went out to look at it an hour later and it was all black around the edges and shrivelled....
@xbfalcon351coupe That is almost unbelievable. But awesome. Well, I will be visiting down there sooner rather than later I hope, lol. Get to experience that weather first hand. The only thing I can say is stay cool and enjoy the cold wave. :D
Cheers, dude - yeh, come down here and enjoy! I mean, it sounds bad the way I've described it - but I LOVE this weather.. cruising around at 1 AM with all your windows down cos you can't sleep anyway, chicks wear virtually nothing cos its so hot, sleeping on the beach, etc - excellent fun!!
@2k4camthrilla AWD is not neccesarily any better than 4WD. It depends upon the individual system, the differentials, and the tires being used. GENERALLY, Audi, Subaru, and Mitsubishi have the best AWD for what you pay for them. NO vehicle would go up this hill without proper winter tires/chains, though.
Because everyone can afford the $5k option of 4x4, and everyone needs it for the 6months of summer when there is no snow, and for the 9 out of ten days when the roads are plowed...
hmmm guess your talking to the wrong dealer i get the prices knocked down not up. 4 wheel dont add anything when i negotiate .i guess you just need to know how its done. ill tell you the secret. do the online build your car deal bring paper to dealer show dealer the price promised online from there dealership online deal. you get that price easy as 1,2,3. bought a new truck in 98 -- 0 miles brand new sticker at dealer said 34,000 online said for the same package 21,000.paid 17,500 after trade :)
Um, no you couldn't. At one point there was an SUV stuck who called a tow truck who also got stuck who called a bigger tow truck who took an hour to get the first tow truck unstuck. That last tow truck was the size of a tank.
Where is the hill and who's throwing down some beer on the bet? I climb hills like that all the time. all I need to do is have weight in the back and slap my chains on than it will creep right up that shit with 2wd and bald tires :P
I was in portland for christmas and my 2003 Ford Explorer needed chains because of all the snow. Without them it was sliding all over the road. The 2003 Ford Explorer is the one all of the Lifeguards have and all the US forest service gusy have.
i dont mean to sound like a jerk and all man just chains and studded tires are illegal in the state of minesota we get just as much snow if not more than they do. you know what we do hit in 4 wheel and slow down. works just fine. no issues at all. well except when you have a small escort wagon and you have to be somewhere but they wont plow because they know its not worth it untill the 3 feet is done dropping. then we jumped in the f 150 hit 4wheel and hey like i said it was fine.
@turbocharged99 Your adopted, your real mom smokes crack, you were created from a rape, when your father touched you it wasn't actually a check up he was molesting you. See I can throw stupid things around to!
