Guys, go check out facetracknoir, it does the same but you dont need to take apart your cam or build a dork hat, (no offence meant to anyone, i too have a teletubby headpiece ;), but this works just as well as freetrack for me so i have switched.
@nitronen can u give me the scrip of the GlovePIE you used in the il2 ,I have made the freetrack same with you I need your help,it's only have the 4dof in the il2 now ,no 6dof why?
@Aircn1017: Didn't used glovePie for a long time so I don't have my own script at this moment. But, there is still an old topic at freetrack forum where you can get it. I will send you link to that page via PM.
IL2 supports only 2DOF, but there is 6DOF mod available.
Sorry, i don't have that script at this moment. but there is a topic at freetrack website named "freetrack through home network" or something like that.. so, there you can find script and additional info.
Hmm, the Freetrack site says that IL2 can only let you look up, down, left and right. yet you seem to be able to move your whole head left and right as well
"You can get reflective material for points if you buy traffic reflective vest, used for trafic control etc.. it could be found in any auto accessories store. "
this free track ir is very best but I have two problem what is the material of the reflective points on the hat and what is the material on the camera which you flip it at the video begin and what is the purpose

there is a photo sensor on the top of this camera, mounted to give to camera info about how much light is available in the room. and when you put black tape over that sensor, camera gives more power to IR leds.
you can get reflective material for points if you buy traffic reflective vest, used for trafic control etc.. it could be found in any auto accessories store.
just a quick question ... does it only work in a darkened room ... what happens if there is a light above your desk? would that interfere with the reflective circles?
Yeah, sorry I forgot to say that I removed IR filter from camera. It is very easy to do and you can find how to do it on the internet.
Ambient light can interfere with points when it is too sunny outside. Then you can put piece of some negative film over camera lens to filter ambient light.
I am using this setup for one year without any problem and it perfectly comfortable for my eyes and neck. You probably never tried something similar, so you give such comments.
There is linear setting for movement sensitivity and it works perfect.
Is that the "MTB" from JO I see there? *wink wink*
Did I understand correctly that you're getting Freetrack input on laptop and via GlovePie getting to desktop? If so, I'd like to hear more about that.
the problem was that i forgot to close an instance of free track in the pc where i was running the game lol i got it working but i the webcam is like 8 to 10 fps, i will get a better one
Go to a store where they fix tv sets, radio's or this kind of stuff. It with cost you almost nothing. Another option is to get them out of the redcoloured backlight of your bike (the modern ones with flickering lights) In my case it works real good.

hi there does the leds need to be red on the webcam as i have seen other webcams with white led?

Hi there
Can you tell me what kind of tape (if it is a tape) you use on your hat to reflect the infrared?
tristao9 2 years ago
@tristao9 I would assume any highly reflective tape would work but the reflective stuff they use on sneakers or safety vest might work best.

I did everything but can not activate it. how do I do?
dolcissimojanki 2 years ago
@dolcissimojanki Probably already got the answer to this but you have to set the usetrackIR option in you config.cfg file to 1 for on.

I'm planning on buying this, can the IR from the webcam damage your eyes?
YukiLT 2 years ago
no, not from camera not from independent IR LEDs.

Not more than your monitor backlight damages your eyes..

@HungryWoOki3 I b=need to know what do you mean?
MrLinuxkid 10 months ago
@YukiLT No it's very low as far as intensity is concerned. You probably get more IR on a sunny day.

FS9Clips 3 years ago
This is quote from my earlier comment:
"You can get reflective material for points if you buy traffic reflective vest, used for trafic control etc.. it could be found in any auto accessories store. "
It works very fine.
Cheers!
nitronen 3 years ago
I forgot to say.. price of that reflective vest is about a 3-4 euros, i think. And you get material for thousand caps :D
nitronen 3 years ago
:D :D :D getting some of that stuff tomorrow morning asap!!!..but does it work as good as LEDs
FS9Clips 3 years ago
I was trying many setups with LEDs, but this is best opinion for me. When compared with my previous LED setups, this works better for me.
If you find several types of vests, chose that with thickest reflective material.
Also, keep in mind, you can place material around some ball or curved shape to increase reflective angle of it.

OK ill try this stuff out if i can find any.
Thanks

can you offer the mend of the 6dof software in the il2?I only have the FreeTrack2.2.279 but no 6dof in il2!

Ok and how to made the distance better between the point on the hat?what is the dimension the point need?
Aircn1017 3 years ago
I want to know what is the tpye of your camera and how much? is it the belowe type?
A4Tech PK 333 MB
* Good FPS, around 30.
* Low jitter.
* Easy removal IR filter.
* Small.
* Cheap. but the fps only have 30 the image may be slow
Aircn1017 3 years ago
That's it.. FPS is interpolated by Freetrack and movements are very smooth for me.
nitronen 3 years ago
do your mean is must put a black tape over the sensor
Aircn1017 3 years ago
you can put anything you want, it's just important to isolate sensor from ambient light.

It seems strange to me that a camera which uses built-in IR leds for illumination, would have an IR filter.
kuntosjedebil 2 years ago
You can skip the whole modification route and use a Nintendo Wiimote. They are about $40 and Freetrack 2.2 supports them now.
Check out my video that shows Wiimote+Freetrack for an example.

Those LEDs are not IR. IR is invisible for human eye. IR is in TV pilots, cell phones -> irda (sony ericson like). They are just normal red LEDs.
tysiek123 3 years ago
you can find IR light as a part of simple electric bulb light specter..LED's from tv remote are just one of million ways to produce IR light..
Also, this video is captured by camera, not with human eye :) you can see TV remote LED's lighting blue if you watching them through webcam.
nitronen 3 years ago
if you put a few near your face the cam cant see you lol
