Wow this guy sounds like a faggot, total bias bullshit.
And that story about Sir Walter isn't even true, his book must be bollox, the potato was introduced to Ireland via trading with Spain, that little story demeaning the Queen is fiction, he must have done literally NO fact checking for whatever that book is at all.
@RedWinterHero Sorry, my friend but it is true. There are only a few souces to dispprove what you are saying, yet 1000-1 to prove it. History itself is biased. Sorry to burst your bubble. But, there are many things in which that are taught that are not totally true. But in this case it is true. The potato came to Spain via the Americas.
@scruffy2112 I'm not an expert on the matter but I've heard enough to believe what he said was false, and his bias was blatant in everything he said so I have little reason to trust anything he's saying as factual.
@RedWinterHero I understand, but the potato was acutally from the Americas thru Spain. That part is true, but you maybe correct on the rest. I heard him make a comment about his brother and saying, "Hell, yes I capitalized off my brothers name (Frank McCort), I wrote about something I knew". I don't know he may have demeaned the Queen, but I am simply stating the facts about the potato.
@RedWinterHero If you had been intelligent enough to just just call him a liar or just realise that if this story is true or not he is just trying to convey the message that the Irish where looked down upon fair enough but to call him "Faggot" just ruin's your own argument, I would never take into account the argument of someone who use's vulgar, derogatory language like that.
@Gavinkeenan1 and just how arrogant are you to presume my words were intended to be taken as an argument or that they were intended for you to "take them into account"?
@RedWinterHero youtube is a open community, I know you would probably like it if you could choose who could read what you say and who couldn't but you can't, so just be careful with what you say.
@RedWinterHero bravery doesn't exist, however it's over flowing with cowardice, saying awful things about a old man that you wouldn't say to his face.
if you guys are interested in Irish family clan history check out the video on my page about an Irish clan, Im hoping to make more soon about other Irish familys
Everything on youtube turns into a comment fight! I dont really think it makes sense to slate "The British" in 2011 considering about 50% of the naion has Irish ancestory!
There is absolutely no diference between the Irish and the Brits. Im British and have been married to a Tipperary girl for 44 great years so who would know better than I?
The only differences is those we choose to pick on.. Hope not hate!
How dare you say that the Irish in Britian are not grateful. Irish people have no problem with Britian or the British people. But that doesn't mean that we can't talk about terriblr acts commited against Irish people in the past. Just Google the words ''black and tans'' and you mightlearn something. Irish people moved to Britian for work and have became great residents of the U.K. British people seem to be ignorant og the fact that many terrible acts were commited in their name.
You might ask the question as to why the largest minority in Ireland (Republic) are British. One in Sixteen people there are British born. To be equal that would require 4 million Irish born people to be living in Britain, ie the entire Irish population. To pick up on one point McCourt made, the potato was the staple diet of the peasant classes all across Northern Europe, from Ireland to Poland, Yet Ireland was the only region where the famine was ignored and the death of people was celebrated
Malachi's brother the late Frank Mccourt was a great writer ! 'Angela's Ashes" is one of the best books i have ever read, and the movie of the same name is my favourite movie of all time !
I thought Christians were supposed to be forgiving. A people move forward far faster by living the present, not the past. The Chinese were horribly abused (railroad etc.) but they never make a sound about it. They just buckle down, get EDUCATED and start businesses and become professionals !
: ) The brogue brings back so many memories of my old aunts...funerals and all the chatter of my childhood. Interesting comparison of pub and pulpit...can't compare with his brother Frank though... (-:
i imagined before british scottish spanish away back in the old days we must of been of european descent, then i found out these vikings were assing about way back:) i think its island of the escaped, but we must respect it and respect each other. i am going have to read up about the spud :)

this man is just gelousy about his brother Frank mccourt, with that book his just trying to be better to his brother, who becomes famous with his triology: Angelas Ashes , 'tis and the other book obout his time being a teacher.
Is there a comparable Spaniard, South African, Indonesian getting away with this kind of bullshit? I somehow doubt it. We Irish appear to have a license to make laughing stocks of ourselves and, at the same time, to be taken seriously by gullible twats.
I was raised in a bar and I wouldn't compare it to a church, more like a psychiatric clinic combined with the Dail. He's cute enough to play the yanks as fools, they love this crap. I ll give him that at least. The song at the end was a special moment for me, I cried...
GrainneMhaol come on now the McCourts are as valid a piece of Irishness as all of our modernity. They talk of their removed experience and understandbly that grates for those of us that where within. However, they where only ever there to cater for the Irish American market- I don't think us shower where meant to read it!!

I suppose he and his brother made a good living out of plastic paddyism and perpetuating appalling stereotypes about the Irish. His family was quite well off, unlike the lucrative myth which Frank created for "Angela's Ashes" etc.
Seems like a lot of IRish people hate Angela's Ashes and Frank McCourt. My dad calls Frank McCaourt a traitor, and refuses to read the book. My dad is from Longford, Ireland, and said he had hard times growing up but wouldn't write a book about it. And my dad grew up on a farm.
wat makes you think a lot of irish people hate angelas ashes and Frank McCourt? thats a realy odd thing to say, especialy if ur basing it on ur dads opinions! im irish and i love angelas ashes! after reading it i read frank mccourts other books and found them just as good! if anything ur dads the traitor for refusing to read the book! the larger majority of ireland have hard upbringings, i had 1 myself. im not going to write a book about it either but ill have respect for anyone who does.

@RedWinterHero you use words like that ( that don't really suit at all) and that's what will happen.
If your not trying to make a argument with your words then your using them to describe and there very unnecessary.
Just state that you don't believe the man if you care about something that much, no need for words like. that.

@Gavinkeenan1 Or perhaps you shouldn't start an argument with someone because they made a passing comment you didn't agree with.
